Unbelievable! I joined the local Bikram yoga studio and I'm going almost every day. I couldn't believe my eyes when I stepped on the scale and saw that my body gratefully released ten pounds the first week.

And trust me, I've been keeping myself well hydrated and enjoying a plentiful, well-rounded raw food diet, with plenty of deserts, and even a little bit of sloppy "cheating."

I'm 37 and intuit that my poor thyroid has slowed down. I suspect the Bikram formula super-charged my metabolism and fired my up digestive system and my little pudgy body was so wanting to heal and shed the blubber I've been carrying around. There's one particular move, with the forehead to knee, that targets the thyroid and I feel it's waking up again! I've learned to trust that feeling.

My aches and pains are rapidly diminishing and it's doing wonders for my disposition! It's also easier to eat raw; I'm super charged.

Now, people will get on and explain why they don't like Bikram yoga and have totally legit reasons. But I moved to Portland Oregon from Florence, a small town where the yoga classes were..................dull. Way way too easy, not challenging, spending most of the time on your back relaxing. I need motivated; I need challenged or entropy sets in! I've been amazed that in the hot studio that I can hit the wall of pain and work through it safely.

And, no, the teachers are wonderful! Not Nazis at all.

Just wanted to share that because I'm so grateful to find another part of the foundation along with raw that I'm building my life on!

This is hot yoga, correct? I want to do this. I have not done yoga much, but I can just imagine how good the heat would make you feel while stretching -- sort of like taking a sauna after a workout.

That is impressive. I have to try it.

WOW 10 pounds in 1 week that is awesome !!!

I LOVE Bikram Yoga !!
It is so good!! I never thought I would love sweating SOO much until I started Bikram yoga.
For me it is the perfect work out. It focus' on flexibility (I use to be a dancer so this I love) Strength, which I had little of and wanted. Balance, I had virtigo and this messed with my balance.
The heat and intense poses makes you feel like you're sprinting it really gets your heart going!! Its interval training so great to lose the extra pounds!!
Plus all the good internal things for your body and releasing of toxins through the cups of sweat you lose!
I always feel so rejuvenated after each class!! LOVE it !!:)

I gotta try this....do you think the ten pounds was water/toxins mostly or fat? Do you look leaner?

It's a specific hot yoga. It's 26 postures (the same every time) that are all balanced out to help heal your whole body. It's in a room at 105 degrees with 40% humidity.

It is AMAZING. I JUST got back, and I'm on Cloud 9 per usual. It is the perfect complement to raw food, in my opinion!

STINA!!! That is so great! I am on week 2 of a 60-day Bikram yoga challenge! I am totally a believer. I have been even more calm and even since I started it. I'm finding better focus and definitely getting more flexible. I'm hoping to be RIPPED by the end of the challenge. I have a fine enough figure already thanks mostly to raw foods, but I feel somehow like I have to step it up a notch being in the health industry. I should be RIPPED.

Gollee, so exciting! 10 pounds! You've even been raw for awhile already. Do they have a challenge at your studio? I'd love a challenge buddy! :D:eek:

Is Florence close to Portland? I had it in my head that you were already in Portland for some reason.

That's great, and more than losing ten pounds, I'm also sure you've gained muscle and already have made your figure thinner.
Yoga's great, I enjoy it deeply and it is sooo good for the body AND the mind. I'll have to try bikram one day.

I can not afford any yoga class, and I doubt that they have that in Norway :p

But is this something I could do at home? You know, turn up the oven in a room and copy what I have seen them do in a Bikram video? :o

I need to get some exercise and lose weight.. Can I make my own litte home-made Bikram Yoga class - just for me?

Any tips? This sounds like something I really need!

I've heard of people taking a Bikram yoga dvd into their bathroom and cranking up the heat!

I actually practice in my bathroom with 2 space heaters in cold weather and in a larger room with one or no space heater in warmer weather.

I use a door mirror because it's easy to stash in a closet or under a bed between sessions.

You just want to make sure that you don't have any conditions that would make hot yoga dangerous like heart or respiratory issues. When in doubt ask your doctor.

If these links are against rules please delete them or tell me to do so.

These are the poses you will practice. (http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/858/457/858457dd-83b9-4ea8-bc4a-3e05ea3b3543)

It's inexpensive to purchase Bikram's book (http://www.amazon.com/Bikrams-Beginning-Class-Second-Edtion/dp/1585420204/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242681550&sr=8-1)

Audio versions of his class and more information are available on his website. (http://www.bikramyoga.com/)

I know that shipping would probably be pretty expensive for you from those sites but maybe you could find his book locally.

There are also audio downloads of his sequence available with a pictorial guide. (http://www.yogadownload.com/products.asp?catid=263&catparent=1) I've tried both hot yoga practices and really like them but not the fusion practice and don't think I will buy the fusion. I like my Bikram up straight. ;)

If you really get into it you can spring for this (http://www.hotyogadoctor.com/store/). I have this set and love it. The site has a lot of great free info. You can get form pointers and ask questions on the forum for free too.

There are a few other dvds available that have close to but not quite the exact practice. I'm not going to link to them but if you want to know about them let me know and I'll provide info.

Congratulations!!! Now I'm even more excited and motivated...I attended my first bikram yoga class three days ago and will be doing my second tomorrow afternoon. I loooooved it. A couple of days after I was sore (the good kind!) in all sorts of new places lol, which is a wonderful feeling. It's exciting to be able to feel that you are strengthening and increasing the blood flow in parts of your body previously left forgotten. :P
I have about 12 lbs to lose to reach my current goal weight...but I have a wedding to attend in just over 2 weeks (serious inspiration) so I am aiming to lose 10 lbs in two weeks, and am counting on bikram yoga to help me get there!

Yes, it was ten pounds of water bloat that had been trapped for a long time, miraculously released. I'm slowly but steadily looking leaner and my posture is looking better, more youthful. I work at a nursing home, if it wasn't for the yoga, I couldn't hack my job.

Ten pounds in one week is not healthy. Two-three pounds a week is healthy.

Ten pounds in the first week is fine and it happened to me as well.. it's mostly water weight. I say congrats!
