I am new here, and new to Raw. My question is about hunger. I have tried and failed several times to go Raw. I literally didn't make it past lunchtime! I ate fruits and veggies, and nuts and seeds to help fill me up. I am 60 pounds overweight and have some blood sugar issues (but not a diabetic yet) so I decided to eat the seeds to stabilize my up and down sugar and to help with the hunger. By lunchtime I was dry heaving from the hunger. Have any of you struggled with this during your first few days on the Raw diet? How can I get past it? I also had a headache from hell, which I attributed to the hunger. Thanks for your help. I'm so glad I found this website!!!:)

I think you had a headache because you didn't consume enough carbs. Eat fruit. It's delicious, detoxifying, filling, and quenching. :)

Its important to listen to your body and eat when signaled. Try to get in the habit of picking up on as early and weak a signal as you can tune into because it will help you avoid binging and the problems you mention in the OP.

How can I get past it?

While I can admire those who have successfully transitioned overnight, I will never recommend it myself.

There is so much to learn, adapt to, and SAD food to withdraw from.

Gradually transitioning to raw over a few months is an alternative for you.

At first it's best to eat heavier meals. It takes a lot of produce, nuts and seeds to fill you up, especially when you first start out. So eating them on their own is much harder than in prepared meals. Smoothies and soups can be very filling. Then have some solid meals-a large salad, wraps, pasta, etc. Also important to eat 5-7 small meals/snacks versus 3 large ones.

If you have a blender that can handle it, take a ton of soaked nuts and/or seeds and blend them up with spices into a tasty dip/spread. It is really filling. Wishing you all the best!

Will I be able to lose weight eating tons of fruit? I'm tipping past 200 pounds, and I feel worse than I have ever felt in my life. My body feels worn out and tired. Thank you for your help.

Oh sweetheart . . . I know how you feel, I know what it is like to feel totally wornout and tired.
As for losing weight with fruit . . . everyone is different. But most people can and do lose weight with fruit. I'd say, try it with fruit, and after 2-3 months you are not seeing weightloss, then don't eat fruit.
Fruit or no fruit, I can assure you that you will feel so much better on a raw food diet if you can just get past the hunger.

When I started eating raw by taking the 30 day challenge on this site (Aug 1, 07) I was 60 pounds heavier and felt like something the dog had drug in. I am now slim and trim and feel good. Raw works by supplying your body with live nutrients that your body needs instead of cooked dead "food". I eat about 70% fruit, 25% veggies, and 5% seeds. I don't eat any cooked, dead food at all. It takes time and "slips" to learn what works for you so be patient and persistent.

Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!!
When I started my raw journey 4 months ago I was 60 pounds overweight. In just those 4 months I have released 34 of those pounds and feel (and look) better than I ever have. I basically eat what I want, when I want it as long as it's raw. My only rule is no eating after dark.
