Hey All...

Im sure yoga in general helps, but does anyone know if there is a certain yoga style that helps connect more with the goddess/feminine energy? There is so many different types of yoga, so Im at a loss, Not sure which one.

There is meditative style yoga like Kundalini. Some gentle yogas tend to be meditative. Depends on the instructor. There are classes called Goddess Yoga too.

Though I think it's really about which style(s) resonates with you the most. Some really swear by the harder styles, saying it allows them to connect deeper. While others prefer something simple. Good to experiment to see which works for you.

Same thing applies to DVDs. You can test all techniques through Youtube, podcasts or yoga websites to see which works for you, then buy the DVD.

I do stuff at home too, though nothing formal. Love it.

I highly recommend Kundalini yoga... though I'd suggest taking a class for that...

Also, there IS a style of yoga called Yin yoga... it's more focused on very very slow movements, like holding a stretch for 3 mins... very gentle... might be something worth looking into.

I'd agree with kundalini yoga (I teach it)--you might try some of Ravi Singh and Ana Brett's DVDs--'Yoga Beauty Body' is very female-oriented.

Another teacher who is just great and practices a very female-centered yoga is Angela Farmer. Maybe some of her practices are what you are looking for:

I have her 'Inner Body Flow' DVD and really like it, and Angela, very much.

Another teacher who is a very strong FEMALE presence is Ana Forrest:

I wouldn't call her style of yoga 'goddess' ... but if you are looking for a practice by a woman who has a very strong presence, Ana is it. She doesn't have a breathy-voiced New Age-y persona at all, which I find refreshing. I have two of her DVDs and like them a whole lot. Ana is a very, very highly regarded teacher, as is Angela Farmer. Their styles are very different and they are both wonderful teachers.

Hope this helps.

It might also help to research some of the female goddesses well-known in yoga (usually hindu goddesses), like Kali, Devi and Durga. Whatever yoga you do you can invoke these goddesses through mantras and visualization. Kali, for example, would go especially well with a vigourous practice due to her fiery qualities.

One of the most inspiring feminine yogini's would have to be Shiva Rea... she's got a lot of DVD's and I would highly recommend her for a home practice.

I wouldn't recommend Kundalini yoga without a qualified teacher, as the techniques could potentially shock your system if your nerves aren't strengthened and purified for the energy they move.

I ordered a tape recommended to me called "Forrest Yoga" but I haven't begun yet. Go to forrestyoga.com.

She is one of the teachers I recommended above. She is just a tremendous teacher--her form pointers are just terrific, and she really makes you dig deep. I do hope you like her style.
