hey guys,
I know this is a pretty small concern with all the back pains, and candida, and cancers and things that have been adressed in relation to raw foods, but its something i still want to ask. I I have always had what i call "weird" skin. I had at one time horrible cystic acne, and my skin never healed like other peoples did. Always dry, and rough, and just simply looked like it didnt regenerate cells like it should..well, through diet, and some other changes, i have pretty much gotten over the acne, dont have too bad of scarring, but still, it just seems like my skin doesnt regenrate correctly....always kinda dry, flaky, and when i get a pimple, it stays forever..also, if o dont use a facial scrub like every night, the dry flaky skin of scabs just grows and grows till i am forced to pick it off....essential fatty acids have helped tremendoulsly, and it has overall improved like 60%, but i just cant figure out why it wont just go ahead and totally straighten out....i was wondering if anyone here had any experience with skin being troublesome, what they did...and how raw related to it...
thanks allot fo any info or suggestions/ideas..
p.s--it is only on my face, which is why it is weird to me, not my arms legs back, anywhere..just my face..and thats the most frustrating part of it all

thanks

Hey, your skin sounds kinda like mine. I got terrible acne in my thirties that would leave scars. My skin felt oily underneath but with this dry flakiness on top the seemed to hold the pimples in. And they took forever to heal. I went to a zillion derms and got a zillion prescriptions, but I think they did more harm than good.

but the good news is that when I went all whole foods, all organic, no grains, no sugars, my skin cleared up dramatically. then I went all natural on products -- no soap, shampoo, cleansers, moisturizers exceot food quality stuff like coconut oil, herbal teas, honey, sugar for a scrub, etc -- my skin cleared up even more. At that time I still used concealer around my eyes, mascara and lip color, though.

When I went raw, I did it overnight, 100%. I never had those detox symptoms most people talk about like tiredness, nausea, moodiness, cravings. But my skin must have been where it was all happening because it went crazy -- big, red erruptions that left scars, flakiness, puffiness. I decided then I needed to slow down detox. I went to 75% or so raw, and now I'm pretty close to 90% although I have weeks at 100%. My skin looks great and I haven't had a breakout in months. Really, I wish I had some before and after photos because you'd be amazed at the difference. I go without makeup entirely except for mascara and coco oil for lip balm. People think I'm younger than I am. No more flakiness, bumps, redness, or pimples.

I also take some supplements that I think help, do dry brushing, coconut oil cleanses, epsom salts soaks, all in an attempt to help my skin detox.

Good luck and I hope your skin feels better soon.

I don't know how to treat this in a "raw" fashion. However one supplement that has helped a lot of people with dry flaking skin is Evening Primose capsules. The key factor with Evening Primrose oil is that it contains high levels of lipoeic acids. Studies have found that levels of this often declines with age and results in increased dryness and flakiness. If you want to know more traditional skin care approaches, my partner is a medical esthetician and I can ask her for suggestions.

My skin is also starting to break out (cyst like) on my face. It's getting a little worse now that I've been so high raw. Does wheat make a difference? Hmmm.

Any suggestion would be great. I had this problem off and on before going raw. My skin doesn't look so bad, but it's a bit uncomfortable. And I want smooth clear skin.

Thanks.

Debbie, are you sure that you are drinking enough water? If you are not allergic to wheat I don't see where it would do any harm.

this might have to do with not enough fatty acids, dry skin is the sign of it. You may need to increase the amount of greens you eat (a big bunch daily), they contain what you need. Juicy fruit are important too for a beautiful skin. I used to suffer from very rough and thick skin on my heels, all my life. After going raw, my skin softened a lot, and I no longer have to scrub my feet every week. My skin is clear, unless I eat cooked food or many nuts (yes, even raw nuts may give me pimples).

I noticed a huge improvement in my skin when I stay 100% raw, drink tons of water, wash my face with honey only, and gently exfoliate with a natural buff once a week. I also eat a lot of greens, as someone mentioned on this thread.

Rawpriestess swears by the honey, and I have to admit I was doubtful until I tried it myself. Three weeks now and my skin feels like a baby's.

hey guys, thanks for all the answers and info, im glad to know other people are concercerned about this like i am..i figure it has allot to do with the fatty acids, because the more of them i take in (and i take in a bunch), the better my skin seems to be, but if i back of of them for even a day or 2, its aligator city till i pick up the pace again...as far as the wheat goes twing yoga...i didnt know i was apparently allergic to wheat, cause i never had any stomach problems or anything else...but after i quit eating wheat sandwhich bread, within a few days, seriously there was a dramatic improvement..then, i was eating what i thgought was "raw" granola up untill about a month ago, that had oats, barley, and evaporated cane sugar...as soon as i quit that, another dramatic improvement happened, almost in a day or two as well...the little whiteheard on my forhead are almost gone, and the rest of my skin doesnt feel as clogged as it did...i attribute it to the processed cane sugar, and the GLUTEN in the oats and barley...gluten can be a hidden little bugger for allot of people and they dont even know it....again, thanks for the replies, and any more info or ideas..or just flat out stories from you guys would be great

How do you wash your face with honey? Seriously. I'll try it.

I am drinking more water, I think that helps.

I dampen my face, take just a small spoonful of honey and rub the honey between my two hands and rub gently all over my face. Rinse, then pat dry.

Blessings.

Well yes, it feels a bit sticky, but I don't use a lot, and I mix it with a little water in my hand. I don't feel that it clogs my pores. I can't find the original post, but Rawpriestess said that honey is an antibacterial, antiviral, I believe. I will try to find it again later. I use a cheap brand for my face and save the good stuff for un-cooking.

As far as the benefits, my skin looks clearer, feels cleaner and is incredibly soft. That's about all I want from my face-clean, clear and soft! :D

I don't know. I rarely wear make up, but the next time I do, I will wash it with honey! If I remember, I will report back.

drock - the skin is our largest organ and it often is the body's first avenue to detox the system, so it definitely is not trivial! Skin ailments can reflect underlying problems. I had adult onset acne for years until finally a doctor (in Austin, TX!) said it was my adrenals - after treating my adrenals, my face cleared up!

As for the honey as face wash, I've been using it without a problem. Here's the link to what RP had to say (mentioned by Autumn) http://www.30dayrawchallenge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5109

Honey taking off makeup: I didn't see it in the linked post (I just skimmed), but I do remember RP saying that honey would not remove make up. I think she recommended the almond pulp for that.

hey texicalian,
i was wondering, i have heard allot about the adrenal problems, and wondered what kid of things you did to help that. What kind of supplements, foods...medicines, or whatever...not that i would just willy nilly go out and by something and start taking it, but i just already know an awful lot about nutrition, and wondered if something i have acess to or already know about may help..thanks allot

texicalian~ same question as drock, what did you do to help w/the adrenals? also, i'm in san antonio, so driving to austin to see a good doc wouldn't be out of the question-- who did you go to?

i agree w/ u...i want to get rid of all my acne too...makes me mad b/c lot of azns i know don't hav bad acne...except me :(...so u guys just use honey to rid of acne for a natural facial wash?...and is the honey the kind that comes in a lil bear bottle thats non-raw?...o, and rawpriestess said something like, wash ur face w/ coconut oil or olive oil to remove grease etc., and then use honey to wipe off...would the coconut/olive oil cause more breakouts b/c its oil?
