hi there
i don't know if this is a repost, but i never heard of it until just now. i was just reading an article and they happen to mention alissa cohen too...thought i'd share it and i haven't been here in awhile.
the writer saids she gets her raw almonds now from spain. so doesn't seem all hope is lost to buy it in the market. and btw.. i happen to feel it's just the greed of certain individuals in power trying to control us etc. do harm to us so they make money..yadda yadda... it happens all the time and is increasingly getting waaayyyyy worse.

Just thinking of the cost of importing foods from other countries makes me shudder. Check out http://RawFromTheFarm.com for your nuts.

I have a very good friend that just got back from the Ann Wigmore Institute in Puerto Rico. They told the class that they no longer use almonds. They are substituting filberts for almonds.
Blessings and peace,
Marcia

Wow, their prices are better than those for "regular" nuts around me! I've bookmarked the URL. Thanks!

I don't know why people say there is a ban. I get raw almonds at Trader Joes all the time.

i read in another thread it isn't raw at trader joes and whole foods. and in the article i gave the link to claims that it is legal to announce it's raw although it's been heated.
but where i am confused... if this did pass.. how come i've noticed in some links it's mentioned there's isn't heated/ pasteurized and grown in america and sold here etc.. did the law change or didn't pass?

Are almonds the only nuts that have to pasteurized? I know that cashews aren't really raw either. What about pecans, walnuts or macadamia nuts with raw labels? Can those be trusted?
I'm also wondering about seeds. If the label says "raw, hulled sunflower seeds", then can I trust that? Also chia seeds and flax seeds - not labeled raw, but I've been told they're always raw. Is that true?
Thanks for anyone who can clear up some of these questions!

If they sprout, they are raw.

Trader joes are all steam processed - and still labeled raw.
I won't buy my nuts except from a raw food website/raw restaurant market guarantees no tampering....I work too hard at this to inadvertently consume something not 100%.
I've sprouted whole foods brown flax seeds and hulled sunflower seeds. So those are ok - I think......
You never know if they get product from different suppliers - so 1 might sprout - the other not - or maybe some batches aren't as damaged as others.....
You never know....

Hi Random -
I recommend talking to the supplier. All of the nuts you mentioned can be either completely raw or not, depending on the farming and processing methods.
