Hello again (I'm just full of questions today!) - I am a craft beer lover & actually work for a distributor. Even though I don't drink alot by any means, I do enjoy my occasional high end brew (like once a month if that). Here's my question...
I know that the MALT of the beer gets boiled to release all the sugars...however, most craft beers are unpasteurized so technically, the yeast is still live in the bottle when you go to drink it since it hasn't been heated.
Not raw...but kinda raw??
Has anyone heard of any "raw" beers?
I am going to email one of my brewer friends to see if he can create something..hehehe

sounds about as raw as the kobucha (sp?) cultured tea everyone is raving about!

I would love to have an unpasteurized beer with the family at birthdays, holidays, etc.

How do we know?

How can we find them?

I would be interested to learn something about this as well. I am not much of a drinker either but it would be kind of fun to be able to celebrate with friends and family on occasion. I bet "raw" beer would be very tasty. Please post anything you find here.

There is RAW Wine and Kombucha might be your answer, it has a little "kick" from the caffine.

hey lindsey or anyone else... do you know if there is a 100% alcohol free beer out there or something that taste like beer? even if one could make it at home.
i LOVE beer!!!!!!! but i'm alcoholic and quit drinking. i can't drink "non alcoholic" beer. just that 1 percent or whatever it is was enough to "ruin" me when i quit for 3 months a couple years ago..drank that and immediately the alcohol cravings came in just like a nicotine fit for smokers.
would appreciate if someone knows.

A raw beer certainly would help me blend in witth social gatherings, but I'm underage so maybe I shouldn't talk about this. ;)

Wow! What neat responses : )
Pixie-as far as I know & I did some additional looking there is no such thing as 100% alcohol free beer. My hubby has been sober for about 3 years & he treats himself to a fancy soda in a nice bottle on occassion as a substitute : )
I know that Goose Island Brewery out of Chicago does not pasteurize their beers & the majority of craft brewers do not-alot of the beers even have live yeast hanging out in them! So the only non-raw part would be happening I. The beginning when the malt is roasted & boiled. But that's before all the good stuff is added anyways : )
I think that If you look on the packaging it should say 'unpasteurized' : )
I'll keep you posted!

ok, thanks for clearing this up lindsey. i have been tempted to try a home brew to see if i could get something without alcohol. on another note... i am wondering if after 100% raw for so much time if us alcoholics are affected by alcohol. i may be willing to try myself with raw wine after a year 100% raw. i am not 100% now. but i may not test it.. would have to see if i care to later.

congrats to your husband!
