I purchased some oat groats yesterday and want to have them for breakfast. How do I prepare it? I got a recipe that is like this:
soak overnight, drain in the morning, process in food processor with walnuts and banana.

Will this be okay? I have a Vita-mix 5200 which I have used only as a blender (for smoothies) so far. Will I be able to use it as a food processor like above? How?

If there are any other recipes for preparing oat groats, I would like to know them too.

Thanks.

That is how you do it. I did mine in a magic bullet blender so if that can handle it then you should have no problems with your mixture. My favorite cooked oatmeal was maple/brown sugar. I still have not been able to replicate it to perfection yet. I think your mixer has different settings so I am not sure what setting you would use or even if that would matter.

That's a Great Start and soon you will be trying other things to add.

I made it this morning and it was pretty good. However, the oats were not soft and were a bit hard to chew. Any suggestion? Shall I put only the oats first and process in vita mix for some time before adding the other ingredients?

RAWmen-noodles, would you like to share your recipe (the maple/brown sugar one or any other you have)? Thanks.

After soaking the raw oats overnight I add just a little agave, some coconut oil and sea salt which, together, tastes like butter. Then I whirl it all up in the mini blender and eat away. Yummm. It's what I had for breakfast this morning.

I buy the really raw rolled oats from Alissa's site. Goldmine in the brand. For a nice oatmeal breakfast here's what I do:

Soak about 1/2 cup of oats for at least 20-30 minutes.

In the food processer (using S blade) I blend the drained oats, one chopped up apple, a couple dates, a tablespoon or so of ground flax seeds, maple syurp to taste, cinnamon, and maybe a small handful of nuts (walnuts) if on hand. This makes a nice soft and yummy tasting apple oatmeal. This is a very big and hearty bowlful as well.

I soaked my oat groats over nignt then drained. I think I think I put about a cup of oat groats in there. I used organic brown sugar though I do not think brown sugar is raw since it is sugar and molasses. Then I used a tablespoon of organic maple syrup (probably not raw). Then I put in the refined coconut butter with a little sea salt for that buttery taste. It is edible but I guess I am still used to the processed chemical type!
