I'm just sitting here so depressed. I've read for weeks three to be exact about how hard it is for people to go (excuse the phrase) "cold turkey"
raw. I have had no trouble. I would say I have been safely 98% raw from day 1 and many days 100%.
I am 60 lbs. overweight and I fully expected to see a substantial weight loss. To date, I have only lost about 4 or 5 lbs.
That's after 3 weeks. I have been having a fruit juice or smoothie for breakfast, big salad for lunch, and usually a three or four raw crackers and a little pate for dinner. During the day I may have a few little date and nut treats or a few almonds if I get the munchies. But never overboard! When I get on the scale I expect to be rewaded by a weight loss but Nooo! HOW FRUSTRATING! This morning I actually cried.
My daughter is doing this lifestyle change with me and she is experiencing the same despair. Help!
We both feel happy with the lifestyle change but want a weight loss, damn it!

If I were you, I would add at least a SECOND green smoothie for dinner.
I've been raw for 2 years now, and I actually GAINED weight (about 10lbs) the second year. Granted, I was doing very little exercise and I was depressed.
In the last two months, I have started taking some meds for depression again, which in turn gave me the motivation and energy I needed to exercise again. (I used to exercise 6 days/wk) In the past month, I've lost 10 pounds and have more energy than I EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE WITHOUT COFFEE!! The most amazing part is that despite the fact that I had a 2 year hiatus from exercising, within a week of starting again I was back at the level that I was 2 years ago and now have surpassed it!! I give all the credit to my raw lifestyle. My skin looks and feels incredible and my cellulite is almost gone. (email me if you want to learn more about the special tights I wear during exercise that are amazing in getting rid of cellulite)
To get to the point, I drink a huge green smoothie everyday for breakfast, followed by a banana with almond butter a couple of hours later, a huge salad for lunch that includes a whole avacado and a handful of pecans, then sometimes I have a second green smoothie for dinner or some veggies with hummus, or veg sushi, or a salad plate of moch tuna, fennel salad, and other veggies, etc., you get the picture. In between all this, I eat as much raw fudge, raw granola, or some other raw dessert as I want.
The one thing that is stressed the most on this site is that everyone's body is different and your mileage may vary. Just experiment and go by what you FEEL. I know that sometimes I get frustrated that the scale is not moving fast enough, but I cannot deny the fact that my look and texture of my skin is amazing and I am sleeping for much deeper.
RAW DOES THE BODY GOOD!!!!!
Congrats to you and your daughter for taking the steps to reclaiming your health!

You are both doing GREAT! Only one thing I might switch...your perception...Live raw for every moment, not where it might take you or to whatever outcome you might desire.
It is a process, a journey and a path to be enjoyed.
Remember someone said, "life is what happens when we are busy making other plans".
Raw life is also about waking up!!! Waking up to every new experience, every new taste, every new perception.
Its like a caterpillar in a cocoon thinking the world is ending. If she only knew the outcome and how beautiful she already was, she might have simply enjoyed the ride, for never would pass this way again.
In hind sight I speak. Document daily, take pictures, notice, explore and love raw food and living. The day will come and you will see it all and wish you enjoyed the process of it all unfolding.
Right where you are on raw is perfect!!! Be there and love it. Congratulations! pssst Its not about the weight, you are already beautiful!!!

Thank you both for your insights. I'm usually A very positive person but this has been a challenge. Good idea about the green smoothies. I just read about that this AM and am trying it. I'm also increasing my water.

Cut back on salt and increase water.
You said you were expecting a notable weight loss. Why is that? Did you notice a change in your clothing? Did you drop a size?
I'm interested in hearing what changes in your body that you noticed before you actually got on the scale?

I have noticed no changes other than I don't think I am retaining fluid. My face is less puffy. I think my frustration is that when I read other people's results and what they eat, they eat considerably more than I am and loose
consistantly. I expected at least 2 lbs a week. I can loose that just by watching calories or any of the many diets I have done in the past.
I do feel good and have no cravings or any desire to cheat, even when I baked brownies for my husband the "meat and potatoes man"s.

maybe you are not eating enough?? just a thought--if we don't get enough calories, our bodies hold onto the weight, just in case there might be a famine.

you need healthy fat to release unhealthy fat. add a tsp of flax or hemp oil to your smoothies and be sure to add some avocados to your weekly intake. you don't mention if you are exercising... try adding in 15-30 a day... even a nice paced walk will do the trick.
also... drink a litre of water first thing in the morning and drink a glass every time you pee until around 2pm. ;)
be patient... every body is not created the same... yours is probably so thrilled with the nutrients it's receiving that it's focusing on healing rather than releasing in this moment. keep feeding it and you'll see a difference. ;)
