Just to note:
If you live in North America, raw almonds must be imported (expensive) or they are not truly raw. ALL almonds grown in North America have to be pasturized by law. There are two methods, chemical (uses nasty stuff!) or steam/heat.
Cashews aren't raw unless hand-shelled. The outside of Cashews is extremely toxic. A hand-shelling method is used that ensures toxin free nuts that are also raw. Otherwise, a heat method is used to open the shells. Again though, hand-shelled will cost much more.

I had been purchasing nuts at trader....had been told almonds from spain were still really raw. Recently peeps on here say no.
There is raw (written on package which they are allowed to say by the standards) then there is really raw.
HFS here has "Better Than Roasted" brand..Eleven dollars for a tiny package.
Bulk bins and most packages are not raw.
Really best way and least expensive are online ones from company that says really raw. You really need to check and ask questions. Nuts are trick but doable.
My body has not wanted any so its been easier for me. Yipeeee.

I don't get why the government seems to think that we as raw foodies, don't have the right to have our food as we choose it. I am sooooo sick of government being in my business!!!
Anyway.. Here in England I have been having luck with a few of the health food stores in the area....
I think when I return to the US, I am going to buy trees and then just wait until they bear fruit!!!

I Love www.rawfromthefarm.com . Some nuts are a bit expensive (and there's some great deals, too), but all is absolutely the best quality you can get. It's run by a raw food family so you know they're really raw. Plus everything is organic and domestically grown, so it's very environmentally friendly, too. Their almonds are unpasteurized, truly raw.

Yeah, the rule is that if the nuts are bought directly from a farmer, not through some middleman, then they don't have to be pasteurized  .

I'm getting them directly from the farms and they're NOT pasteurized. They ship it directly to the customer.
One of the farmers I spoke to said a new law may be in effect soon that allows California Farms to sell unpasteurized without any regulations. I'm waiting to hear back from him regarding this. He seemed pretty optimistic about it.

where are you in FL? I just bought some raw peanuts (out of shell) for $1.99 - not a bad sized bag too, at Publix.

That would be awesome! See, it's different for all you down South (where they can be grown)...for me, the only option is ordering online or from a store. Therefore, the regulations apply and you've got pasturized almonds. Cashews still must be hand-shelled to be raw though...no way around that.

Are we shopping at the same Publix? I just found them there. Can we grow an Almond Tree in Florida? I live near Jacksonville.
