How long did it take to transition to a simple raw diet....100% raw....not eating spices or BLA? I am currently eating raw but at times I add spices that I had in the cupboard that are not raw, so I am curious about this subject. Whats your opinion on this topic? Thanks.

I think that high quality organic spices, though not always raw, are very healthy. Cinnamon is terrific for regulating blood sugar levels. Cayenne pepper burns out parasites and raises the metabolism. Turmeric fights cancer and is loaded with anti-oxidants.
But spices taste so good and are mildly stimulating, so they can lead one to overeat. I've done raw both with and without spices and I see benefits to both sides. Try out no spices and see how it works for you.
Sometimes I eat very simple and sometimes I rawk the delicious raw recipes :D .

I eat very simple, but still use spices, though less than before. There are raw, organic spices available and those are what I use. Took until my 3rd year to eat much simpler. Don't think I would give up spices 100%. The time frame could be quicker for some. Think once you make it through the first 6-12 months being 100%, it's easy to cut back on things. I've been changing things for awhile.

I agree and see so many different ways of living this lifestyle. Thanks for the input.

Where do you get your raw spices?
I am planning on trying a simplier way to eat for the next 30 day raw challenge and see how I feel and go from there.
Thanks for your ideas and input.

I actually just planted five herbs in my kitchen window so that I could have fresh raw ones. :D I love raw recipes as well as simple raw. I believe it depends on my day and how I'm feeling. I leave it open ended and find peace eating with or without spices.

Love it exactly where you are. Today you might want spices, tommorow not. Its all ok. A journey, a process and its all good whatever you decide. After all, its raw...wooohooo.

spices make me over eat and they dim my senses.
eating without spices and condiments, i can actually taste food better and feel more sensitive.

spices make me over eat and they dim my senses.
I've been noticing garlic really dulling my mind. I avoid onions as I don't like the taste and they make my pits stinky!
wondering if you've noticed this dimming in the absence of alum family spices?

I am little over a year now doing raw and this whole year has been about transitioning and I am now finding that I just truely enjoy simple fruits and veggies and by doing this I am having less cravings for sad and less slips.
Everyone is different so, just go with your own flow.

yes i definitely have the urge to over eat on recipes that have lots of spice because it's so different from the salads, fruit and smoothies i normally eat. I'm not adding salt to anything i make anymore as i will eat more as well. When using nuts you always have to use spices to make it taste like something so I'm limiting my prepared recipes to once or twice a week now. I will never get bored of fruit, so it's not really a problem as long as you don't have the prepared food in the fridge telling you to finish it off lol.

Bragg's Liquid Aminos sold by soy sauce in the store. Stay away from it if i were you
BLA and spices are both in a lot of Alissa's recipes. I wouldn't consider them cheating or making you less than 100% raw.
That being said, I like fruits, vegtables, salads. It is easy. I think like Veronica, it would be good to limit a prepared meal (recipe) to once or twice a week. For me, the reason is I'm interested in loosing weight, and the recipes use a lot of nuts. More than I think I should eat every day. Plus all that stuff gets expensive.
Alissa said somewhere that your diet develops as you move along, something like that anyway.

OOOH I am so loving simple. Fixed a bunch of stuff today. Was in kitchen long time and lots of clean up. Love the foods yet I am feeling heavy and full. I love simplicity. Green, fresh, light and airy.

The adaptive phase of any downward stimulant adjustment takes a couple of weeks without fasting, but quicker with water fasting.
The pleasure hormone dopamine is produced equally once the lower threshold of release is established.
There is a science to pleasure sensing!
