I've been about 80-95% raw for the past week, and just a few mins ago i popped my foods into fitday, and turns out i'm not getting enough calories.

Today (late evening here) ive gotten about 1400, and i've eaten loads (including large handful of almonds, 20 olives and sunflower seeds).
I have an avocado ripening in the kitchen, and i eat at least every three hours, but i'm just not getting enough.

What are your tricks for upping your calories?

You probably do not need as many as the recommended amount. That is for people who are having lots of empty calories.

Up your fruit intake, you cannot do it with veggies and its hard to gauge how many nuts to eat plain and i feel sick if i even have one too many so i dont eat them for snacks anymore. Makes smoothies with bananas and spinach, or eat mangoes, oranges, bananas by themselves.

Are you still hungry? Chances are if you are hungry you will be craving a sweet snack. I know in the evening im always craving something sweet no matter how much i eat.

I know in the evening im always craving something sweet no matter how much i eat.

On the rare occasion that this happens to me I have a couple of dates.

Thanks for the tips, i've been eating fruit all day long, so hopefully i'll be getting better values tonight when i calculate (since i'm in the beginning i feel it's important to make sure i get enough of everything)

Cravings for me are much more oatmeal/bread/rice related than sweets. A date useually does it, but i get mad cravings for porrige of all sorts.. But they come and go, nothing to do about it really.

You need to get yourself some raw buckwheat, pronto! It can be soaked, then spun in the food processor to make a delicious raw porridge. You can add warm water to heat it up a bit.

but if you're craving complex carbs, it's still carbs right, so usually you're body is still expecting more carbs in the form of fruit sugar, even if your taste buds aren't telling you they specifically want sweets.

I like not feeling full and stuffed after eating things like oatmeal or bread.

I made a fruitmeal once that was good, soak 3 tbsp of flax seeds over night, throw in a blender with some papaya, kiwi or strawberries and some bananas and top with more fruit or raisins and it's kinda like a breakfast pudding. That was very filling for me.

i did have buckwheat today, in my tabouleh, and i'm sprouting some to make a porrige tomorrow morning!

Hopefully, one day i'll stop living out of a suitcase and settle down so i can get myself a dehydrator, and start producing crackers and onion bread...

Veronica, that's a really good point you're making. just because i never had a sweet tooth doesn't mean my body doesn't want carbs...

(oh, and i'm doing the calorie thing because i have a sort of hyper metabolism, and i work out quite a lot, so it's very important for me to know that i'm getting enough energy. Because i DO NOT want to release/loose weight)

Yep there sure is a difference between craving something sweet on your tongue and having that feeling in your stomach like you're hungry for bread or rice. Sometimes you have to use your brain to figure out what your body wants! I know whenever i feel like i'm starving it's habit to think of super dense complex carbs to fill up on, so i've started getting in the habit of making a smoothie when im starving for dinner and drinking that while i think of what i really want to eat and it helps me make sure i'm getting enough calories too.
