Hello,
I was wondering if anyone on here has had (or still has) Irritable Bowel Syndrome? How has eating raw foods effected it?
Thank you for your time and help. :)

Hi, while I may not have healed with raw foods, I did heal with organic foods. I had IBS for 12 years. It made my existence treacherous. I completed two colon cleanses and switched to a diet of all-organic foods and no more IBS! Some common irritants that can cause IBS:
* Wheat
* Milk and/or dairy
* High Fructose Corn Syrup
* Artificial Flavors/Colors
* Monosodium Glutamate A.K.A. Yeast Extract, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, textured soy protein, dextrose, etc.
Try avoiding at least the last four stars and see what happens. I personally would believe that raw food would be very helpful to someone with IBS. The month or so I was raw, everything as far as digestion goes was fantastic. Hope that helps.

Yes, sir. I have heard that as well. The meat eaters consistently have higher levels of antibiotics and growth hormone while the vegans have higher levels of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. It makes sense. I recommend organic for at least the "dirty dozen."
As far as the second half of your post, don't get me started with the government...*sigh.*

Yes raw food can make IBS to be gone so you forgot you ever had it. Im high raw and I practialy never have symptoms of IBS unless I get emotional upset or stressed.
You have to find out what workes for you ex. if you cant have nuts because it irritates you tummy maby you will do better with nutbutters. I cant have raw tomatoes without getting really bad stomac cramps, but do ok with cabbage that others might have problems with. Try it out and see what works for you and raw food will do its best to keep the IBS in check :D well that is my experience anyway. The reason we get IBS is because the brain send to many signals to the colon that makes it "spastic" and gives stomac upset. IBS is highly controled by our emotional state so meditation, relaxsation, yoga, eating in a relaxed setting slowly a.s.o. is a great ad to help with IBS.

Thank you all for the replies!!
I hadn't known this about IBS could be worsened due to your brain's signals. :eek: That's pretty wicked information regardless, though. I'm going to have to learn more about that.
Coolexplosion, your post gave me a lot of hope. I'm not sure why, I guess it's because you've healed yours. lol :o

I was once diagnosed with IBS (spastic colon as they called it). It kind of seemed to me that they really didn't have any idea what the problem was so they just decided to label my questionable condition "spastic colon". They wanted to put me on medication, but I knew that would only be adressing the symptoms and not the cause, so I didn't take it. Somebody told me I might not be getting enough fiber in my diet (most people on the standard american diet don't). So I started taking a fiber supplement. Here's what I learned about fiber. Fiber can help IBS, but make sure you're taking the right kind and the right amount. There is soluble and insoluble fiber, and there is a difference. I didn't have constipation IBS, I had runny liquid stoles IBS. What helped my condition was taking a fiber supplement that had both in it. I believe it was called FiberSmart (it also had a probiotic in it by the way). I don't take it anymore because now I'm trying to eat raw living foods which gives me my fiber. This is what we should be doing in the first place, eating our fruits and vegetables. My mother told me once that she can't take fiber pills because they make her constipated. But, that's probably because she was taking the wrong kind (remember there's soluble and insoluble). I still have runny stools occasionally, but not as often. Not everyday. This woman at my health store advised me once to take a quality probiotic because I had a sharp pain in my left abdomin. I took it consistantly everyday for over a year, and I swear as long as I'm taking it my pain goes away. When I stop taking it for a few days the pain comes back. I read a book about the healthest and longest living cultures that ever lived, and what they had in common was that they all ate raw living foods such as fruits and vegitables (fiber) and they ate fermented foods (probiotic/good bacteria). That is why at the Ann Wigmore Institute they teach people how to make rejuvelac (a fermented beverage made from wheat berries). Even if you're eating raw, look into Food Combining, as the wrong combinations of food can cause digestive troubles such as diarrhea. Parasites I guess are another possible cause.

Heello.
I had IBS from birth, really. Very badly. I think that going raw is completely unnecessary if that's all that you are looking to heal. It is my opinion that IBS is caused by eating specific foods that your body cannot handle. The most common ones are gluten and lactose, but can also be corn, soy, eggs... If you're looking for relief from IBS and that is all, I highly recommend excluding gluten and lactose from your diet first so that you can see whether or not you are gluten or lactose intolerant, just to gain the knowledge for the future even if you do still want to go raw.

I haven't had dairy in years but my IBS symptoms had been much worse lately. I quit gluten and they're so much better!!

I had terrible IBS/constipation and nothing worked, no matter what I cut out or tried. I was sick and tired of never knowing when an attack would happen. I tried many ways of healing it as mentioned in other posts but nothing worked.
I came across raw diet information and decided to try it. It's only been 2 months and I no longer have attacks and I no longer have constipation. That is a miracle for me since I always needed something.
I keep my meals very simple. Green smoothies, simple salads, fruit.
I do intense massages to my intestines almost to the point of rolfing and they love it (Ialso talk to them in soothing voice).
I have put away my heating pad, gas pills, and all the other stuff I was taking. Alot of it homeopathic,remedies, etc.
Going raw is the way for me.

I still get IBS with poor food combining that includes melon or pineapple. I also get it with complex raw food recipes.
