I am raw but my Dh is not but he wans to build a Cob house. He has wanted to make one of these for years. It only makes since. Eat raw and live in a raw house. Theo nly problem is that the city would code us to death. Even though it would be outside of city limits. Totally living from the land would be my dream! It makes my heart flutter just thinking about it.
Does any one here live in a cob house?

How about a Yurt? Anyone live in one of those?

I could not see myself in any type of small house... We have BIG dreams, that will be of course as green as a large home can be :)

We don't live in one yet we've researched quite a few different styles of homes including strawbale, yurts, dome, earth (there's a whole place of earth houses near us). When in Denmark we went to a community ~ Himself can get the name for you ~ where everyone built their own homes using recyclables, earth, etc. We visited a few strawbale homes, spoke with the owners....
Interesting that the powers that be can't sit down and figure out these places are safe than what we live in now. Strawbale homes have withstood fires that have burned everything around them. What to do, eh? Maybe in my lifetime....

concrete , wood , brick are natural products to me .
and shall be way more durable / long lasting / easier
to maintain than something like a corn cob or hay bale
construction where i see it as just setting ones self up
for a mess of maintenance
not meaning to criticize , its just that a home is very
serious business of which alot of thinking and cross
thinking must be put into so presented my angle .

(Camping? Only one person has mentioned camping. One can actually live in a yurt.. it's not just for camping. In fact, it's a GREAT idea for those who wont really "camp". )

This is the coolest thing I have seen in a minute. I showed my nephew the tumbleweed houses and he really liked them except his sneaker collection wouldn't fit. I smacked him in the back of his head for that one!

I've been eye-balling these homes for years. I can really see myself in a tiny home once I'm retired and the kids are grown!!

Interesting, I never even gave thought to this...
Though I'd LOVE to live in a TINY home on a huge plot of land. Tiny home = less cleaning =D

There are cob houses in the UK that are well over 500 years old! I have never seen a corn cob house. I will have to look that one up!

We have a cob church just outside of my city...it looks so beautiful too and was built in 1838! ...oh wait, I guess it's 'covered' in plaster to protect it from weathering...but still interesting.

We are planning on building a straw bale house on our land in VA. I like the idea of a cob house too. We looked into yurts as well, but they can be quite expensive.
