View Full Version : water or juice fast?

So I was thinking about starting a fast to "clean" my body. And I just can't decide between water and juice fast.
What is the limit with water fast?(how many days can you fast?)

Can I combine a little of both? I would try to drink just water and when I will feel too weak I would drink some juice.

What do you guys think about it?

I would be happy for your comments

i love doing a combo myself... i often drink water during the day and then switch up to a juice for dinner. water fasting is tough...

as for how long... 40 days on water is doable... but with some supervision/support. otherwise i've done 15 days with no adverse issues...

listen to your body... it'll tell you what it needs and wants.

Thank you very much for your comment. I decided going on a 21 day water/ juice fast. I'll drink juice in the morning and then only water.

Really this site is really the best thing that you can find on the internet.

Fasting is a period of abstinence from all food or specific items. Fluids are consumed in sufficient quantity to satisfy thirst and physiologic requirements. During the absence of food, the body will systematically cleanse itself of everything except vital tissue. Starvation will occur only when the body is forced to use vital tissue to survive. Although protein is being used by the body during the fast, a person fasting even 40 days on water will not suffer a deficiency of protein, vitamins, minerals or fatty acids. In the breakdown of unhealthy cells, all essential substances are used and conserved in a most extraordinary manner. There is an unwarranted fear of fasting that strength diminishes from the catabolism of proteins from muscle fibers. Even during long fasts, the number of muscle fibers remains the same. Although the healthy cells may be reduced in size and strength for a time, they remain perfectly sound.

A. J. Carlson, Professor of Physiology, University of Chicago, states that a healthy, well-nourished man can live from 50 to 75 days without food, provided he is not exposed to harsh elements or emotional stress. Human fat is valued at 3,500 calories per pound. Each extra pound of fat will supply enough calories for one day of hard physical labor. Ten pounds of fat are equal to 35,000 calories! Most of us have sufficient reserves, capable of sustaining us for many weeks.

This website has tons of information about fasting. You should check it out. This is the 1st paragraph it states you can go up to 40 days but a average water fast is 10 days. I am on my 7th day right now.

Now i know what to expect on juice and water fast. In my case I am trying to lose weight and to detox in shortest time.

if that is really your focus... detoxing in the shortest period of time then do a water fast. that's the big ticket item when it comes to detox.

I'm keeping the option open to take in some (diluted?) juice on my water fast, but I want to understand more about the extent to which taking in anything that my body needs to digest "disrupts" the ketosis? I don't want my body to be confused. And, instead of juices, what about doing a bit (like pea-sized amount) of raw honey in hot water now and then?

Any feedback is most appreciated from Aleesha and all the beautiful fasters.
