I was wondering what kind of flowers that everyone has tried eating. I ate a dandelion bud from the yard and waited to go into anaphylaxis (sp?) but nothing happened. It was a sweet mild taste. We do not use any chemicals or pesticides on our yard. As a matter of fact. My husband is not aloud to mow that area of yard. We live out in the country so no crazy neighbors to contaminate things. They would add wonderful colors to a boring salad!

I eat pansies, violets, nastursiums(spell) and purple clover....and am investigating more.

I figure I will not eat n wait for reaction...so I am researching a bit more.
And eat far away from traffic and fancy lawns.
I love flowers. It is so true we are what we eat. I want to look like my fave flowers..hahahah....happy grazing.

nasturtiums, violets, johnny jump up's, dandelion, rose petals, borage, all kinds of herb flowers (mint, etc), arugula flowers, lilac flowers, locust tree flowers, and that's all I can think of right now, but probably there's more that I've tried. I love eating flowers!

violets? Lilacs?

Kewl!

I've got a bumper crop of both on the way!

Do you just sprinkle some on a regular type salad?

How do you do it?

I put them on salads but mostly I eat them right off the field. Sometimes for a super special celebration, I dip edges with cacao to top a fruit salad. That is living!!!

I haven't eaten any yet, I have a big garden so there is lots of choice but, I would be afraid of contamination like rat urine etc. Also, we have 2 chicken companions and there always everywhere, I don't know, I would love to try dandelions but, I guess I would be concerned about they hygienic aspect where I am. *hmm*.

I get like that too - but you have to remember your fav organic farm is far from hygienic, birds are flying overhead firing at will. Mice and rats roam freely, nibbling and fertilizing at will.

We are so divorced from our food sources, it's like we develop a psychosis about our food. We can't stand to be exposed to the realities of the natural way.

I bet those cacao dipped petals would be so pretty on a raw cake or pie.

Yeah, you have a point, who knows what my spinach went through to get here... or where it grew up... maybe I will try a dandelion.

UPDATE!!!!

I picked 2 violets in the yard today - 1 purple, and 1 white with purple splotches. We have loads of both varieties.

I ate both straight up as it had recently rained today.

Bitterer than I expected.

I will wait till tomorrow before upping the ante....just in case, LOL!
