So...I just made my first green smoothie...but it's chocolate-brown!
LOL.
Here is what I put in it:
One bunch spinach, washed & just the very ends of the stems cut off
2 small pink lady apples, cored and seeded
I blended the above to liquidy mush, then added:
3 handfuls frozen strawberries
one smallish handful of frozen blueberries
then I tasted it and decided it would be great if I added:
two pinches of nutmeg*
several generous dashes of cinnamon
several drops of liquid stevia
Wow! This baby is overflowing with folic acid, vitamins a, c, e, a full days worth of magnesium, and 13 grams of protein. Of course, it is rather large, like a quart or more, but that's ok, I like to drink.
It tastes wonderful. Very mild, nice texture, and the spices bring out the flavors. :D
Oh, and we made this last night: http://kimberlysnyder.net/2008/05/15/my-formerly-secret-raw-fudge/ But with walnut milk.
Out of this world!!! My son says it tastes like Soy Decadence (I think that is the brand) chocolate "ice cream" - I think the name is velvet or something? He loved it! My first ever dessert made with avocado...I was reluctant for an entire decade. Man, have I been missing out.
*I got this idea from a recipe I made when my son was a baby from Gabriel Cousen's book...the big book with the berries on the cover? I think it was a spinach dip recipe, but anyway, it had nutmeg.
LOL.
