View Full Version : No longer going nuts over nuts.

I can no longer handle any type of raw nuts! They taste very heavy in my mouth and feel weighty in my digestive tract & colon. I'm beginning not to even be able to digest sunflower seeds. Pumpkin seeds are about all I can handle these days, but sparingly. This is incredible because I would've never thought this was possible when I first went raw 2 years ago. I ate raw nuts and seeds everyday, not including adding them to gourmet recipes. They were a necessary staple for me to stay raw. My body has changed a lot! I suppose I have too. :) I just feel the need to keep it light and simple with light and simple whole foods. There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating raw nuts & seeds ;), I'm simply sharing what has happened with me. And if you know me, you know this is pretty big because it's another leap over a big emotional food dependency hurdle! Woot. Woot.

Has this happened with anyone else who was dependent on nuts or any other raw food?

Thanks for sharing your experience. :)

Congratulations!!!

to answer your question, one or two times a week I really look forward to pumpkin seed sushi from the juice bar down the way. i would call it a dependency. more of a weekly than a daily but it is a transitional compromise to keep me from the hard stuff. (fish) i will lose that dependency like you have, but like you, i will let it happen-my taste and stomach will let me know.

You are definitely not alone. Well I'm not 100% raw like you (cause of chocolate and cheese - my only two vices), but I too can not eat nuts anymore. I must say that I loved them and deep down I probably still do. I don't know why, but for the last two moths only the thought of them makes me sick to my stomach:confused:.
I still eat seeds, but only in a form of crackers; otherwise I can't eat them either. So therefore I don't use salad dressings, pates or anything else made out of nut or seeds. I’ve been raw for 10 moths now.

Thank you ladies!

Selina, I thought my nut dependency would be forever with me, but you definately transition during this process.

Elena, I'm with you. I feel heavy just looking at them now. I reach for fruit instead.

I know some of us get frustrated easily when we're just starting out with raw foods, but you (in general) can see it takes time in some regards to reach your goals. Everyone's body is different of course and it may be a different food or level of awareness gained for you individually. For me it was two years of eating nuts daily and usually just grabbing them and eating mindlessly when I was sad or bored. It's a great feeling to be more in tune with my body. I look forward to whatever else is in store. Thanks for listening and have a great day.

That's so Great - RawHeaven!

I have noticed that I am not craving Nuts & Seeds as I did in the beginning a year ago. I had to have them with me everywhere I went. Now, I have to have an apple or sliced veggies anywhere I go. Its kewl how we are changing. I am now craving lots of Fruits. I probably eat 60% fruit and 40% veggies now for the most part.

Hi Crystal!!!

I like me my nuts still, but they've got to be soaked or they don't do well for me digestively. I have not been eating them much lately, though -- I've more been craving avocados. Like crazy. 3-4+/day at times! I'm on this 90-day Bikram yoga challenge and walking/running around/playing a lot too, so that's what's happening. My body needs more calories and fat but still digs the really clean foods.

Ah, and coconut! Young coconuts especially. Double yum!

That's GREAT if you don't "need" them now, especially if they were a sort of addiction before. You have done so much healing!!! Lovely, lovely. :)

You wouldn't believe how much nuts and seeds I was eating when I was transitioning! My boyfriend had huge bulk bags of all types of nuts and seeds and it was like every 20min I was going into the pantry to FILL a bowl of mixed nuts and seeds and eating it ALL! I thought I would never let go of nuts and seeds. Almost 2 years later I eat no nuts, no seeds, no avocados unless special occasion in a recipe. A few weeks ago it was my sister's bday I made veggies with a nut n seed dip (very similar to Alissa Cohen's cheddar cheese) I ate about 1/4-1/2 the bowl of dip (maybe a cup total) plus pie which had nuts for the crust... right before I went to bed it all came back up..
My body just does not like it anymore...
I have to eat a very very small amount if if I do...

Its nice though because even though I loved nuts and seeds before they never did make me feel good, just very heavy and full which is what I was use to feeling before raw.

My body doesnt like nuts anymore either....green juices, sprouts, smoothies....nuts too heavy. Lightening up in so many ways.
I guess with not being bale to purchase them anywhere here, it works well to not have them. I will once in a while.

What I can't believe is how many people USED to be able to eat so many nuts. I'm only four months raw, but I haven't been able to eat them a lot at all. I can do a pate from time to time, but all of those many, many desserts made with dates AND nuts (what a combo!) -- quickly looking at the recipe makes me nauseous. I haven't ever taken a handful of nuts when I'm hungry; they'd kill my stomach.

I think it's so wonderful how clearly our bodies communicate with us now that we're raw. :)

That is such a neat part of raw for me. Shopping is so easy. I go in and I know so easily what to buy. I simply listen and pick up what I want. Incredible.
