does anyone drink raw milk? i've heard it has unbelievable health benefits.. unfortunately, it's illegal to sell unpasteurized milk in canada, making it impossible for me to find any... unless i buy a cow.

I don't think dairy products aren't a part of a raw diet. At least not a part of a raw vegan diet.

A lot of people drink raw milk yet, this forum is based on a raw vegan food program so dairy isn't discussed here. You might wish to check out http://notmilk.com for more information on how bad milk is for us.

Also, this being Alissa's FREE forum, please...

6. No discussions of animal products such as dairy, eggs or meat. We realize that for some, honey should be among that list but we are not opposed to honey so please do not start up discussions about why we accept honey if we’re vegan. There are discussions where the subject of honey was brought up and talked about so feel free to do a search for it to see the various sides of that. But aside from honey, no discussions in favor of consuming other animal products are to be discussed here.

There is a certain amount of puss and blood allowed in milk and I do not want either as part of my diet.

Now if that isn't enough to make me give up my morning coffee with milk - nothing will!! That is gross.

After not drinking the stuff for years (I am lactose intolerant) I decided to try some a while back. It tasted rancid. I know it was still "fresh" b/c my room mate was drinking it and said it was fine. I couldn't even swallow the stuff though.

Yeah, I had that rancid taste too.

About a year after I became vegan I got an oatmeal bar that I thought was vegan, I ate some and it tasted rancid and off! I gave some to my dairy eating veggo friend who said it tasted fine. I read the back of the packet and it had butter in it .

Then I smelt a glass of milk and it smelt so rancid, yet my milk drinking friends thought it was completely fine. About two weeks later in a uni science lab session we learnt about volatile fatty acids and how they turn rancid really quickly.

Milk and other dairy is full of volatile fatty acids, these basically begin to go rancid the moment they are exposed to air, that's the moment they come out of the cow!

Rancid nutrients are NOT something you want to ingest!
