View Full Version : Ok, let's talk about Dehydrators.
That's a prompt, :)
I know nothing, absolutely nothing about them.
Should I get the one with many trays or just 5 trays.
I want crackers!!!
Suggestions are welcome.

I would get the one with the most trays because later you will find a need for all of them. You can always use as few as you like.

I go thru phases, but it does definitely help with the need for salty, crunchy stuff or warm foods. Right now, I'm in the "off" phase. Maybe cuz summer's coming or something.
I would also opt for more trays. When you make stuff like crackers, you can make larger batches and store them and then you don't have to wait all the time for stuff to get done!

We've talked and talked about this forever it seems like on here and the general consensus is YES - get a 9-tray, excaliber - the best!
Alissa sells them here:

My understanding is that the excalibur can take 1-9 trays and has a door so that you can dehydrate less trays. Some others must have all trays in to work. The Ex lets you have the room for thicker foods by tray removal. You can put bolws in it by removing trays to heat your food up. The door protects against light. You want temp control possibly timer. Special non stick sheets. LOL I don;t have one but this is the one I will buy. I have a round one No temp control, have to unplug to shut off. Can not put anything thick in it unless I can find the special trays. NO CONTROL scarey!

I have a 9 tray and even though I do not use it very often I need it all when I am drying soaked seeds.
I was surprised recently when my friend ordered a 4 tray to find that the trays are much smaller so it is not four ninths of the big one. It is much less.
Go for the bigger one - 'what holds more holds less'.

I got the smaller one from Allissa. Can't imagine having anything bigger in my apartment! I've only filled it up all the way once.

V for Life is right on...excaliber nine tray top notch.
Yet another vote for the 9 tray Excalibur (with the timer). I love ours. It gets filled to capacity quite often and there's just 2 of us. *Ü*
