Those of you who live in a city with a Rally's or a Checkers... do you guys know their seasoned French Fries? I have been having mad cravings for those things for three days.
Does anyone have a raw French Fries recipe they can share before I indulge???:o

sorry, don't have a recipe, but I do know what you mean, they are yummy and spicy. seems like someone would have one, or could figure out how to make them. probably with jicima or sweet potatoes. maybe marinated and dehydrated??? sounds good to me.

Avocado "Fries" ......from My Files...
Here is a simple and satisfying treat for when the fried food craving hits!
Slice up some avocado into 1/4-1/2 inch strips.
Tip: After slicing the avo in half score the flesh while it is still in the rind and then scoop out the meat and it will already be in strips.
Roll the avocado in a flax breading that is made up of:
1/2 cup ground flax seeds
1-2 tsp. garlic minced or powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. oregano
1 Tbs. nutritional yeast
After breading the avocado slices you can dehydrate them for about an hour. This warms them up as well as allows some of the oils of the avocado to soak into the breading. You could just eat them right away too.
The spices can be varied and your imagination is the only limitation. I once made spicy chili fries and they

I STRONGLY recommend Jicama fries. I just recently made them for the first time and I'm HOOKED. I made some for my dad, who is very much a SAD pleasure eater (though I got him to go vegetarian a few years ago, he makes up for it with butter and sugar and cheese) went crazy over them. The next time he saw me, first thing out of his mouth was "are you making those chip things?"
Enough rambling, I'm running on no sleep and endless work shifts so the craziness is setting it:D I got a base recipe and adjusted it to personal taste - you can change the spices or amounts.
Ingredients:
1 medium jicama
1 T olive oil (apparently sesame oil tastes divine but I've never had it)
1.5 t paprika
1 t garlic
3/4 t salt
other spices such as black pepper, cayenne pepper, if you want more of a "bite"
Peel the jicama (surprisingly easy) and cut into thin french fry shapes. Toss with olive oil, then add spices and toss until evenly coated. Eat :)

So, these don't get dehydrated at all? Just wondering....

I made a batch of jicama "fries" and raw ketchup just a week ago.
The ketchup, I think, was the key. And the saltiness.
Just cut up an jicama into thin strips, so they look like "fries"... sprinkle, roll, encase them in seasonings (sea salt; braggs; namu showa; paprika; cayenne pepper; etc.), then use them to scoop up raw ketchup! yummy!

when i'm struggling with a craving for fries, i find that zucchini fries work fairly well!
i've also gotten decent results with parsnips (cutting them very thin, as shoestring fries).

What in the world is a Jicama?
It is a root type veggie, like a yam or turnip

I have tried Jicima twice now, for "fries" and "rice" and i absolutely don't like it. It's a cross between an apple and a raw potato, looks potato like but round and it's so watery and weird tasting. I don't know if i'll ever like it.
People pronounce it "hicima" if you want to ask for it at the store.

You could chop up sweet potatoes in wedges or different shaped slices and drizzle olive oil and herbs like basil oregano etc over it and maybe garlic and salt or cayenne, and nama shoyu, anything you like, but just not cook them. I sometimes cook them and i sometimes don't it's nice, anyway.

You are just saying that because you can not get jicima and you are jealous.

Same here; I can't stand the taste of jicima. I especially thought the "fries" were gross. They tasted like starchy apples.

haha. The first time I EVER went to a raw food potluck (way before going raw), someone brought them and made a bland marinara for them, I had my ex with me (junkfood sad eater only) and we took large portions of the fries hoping they were sweet or good. I remember they were freezing cold and the sauce was spicey bland and I couldnt even choke one down... I was like wow what the hell kind of vegetable is that. He was annoyed, he hated almost everything lol. So I was skeptical about making rice for some dehydrated A"stir fry" I chopped the whole thing up to get it over and done with, added some agave and coconut flakes and even tried to squish out some of the juice so it wasn't so wet... It was mega nasty, lol i threw the whole thing out after i hadn't touched it in a week. Surprisingly i have loved every other random recipe i've made, but not jicama. :) What i wouldn't give for sweet potatoes to taste soft and sweet raw instead of cooked. haha

I used the jicama for raw mashed potatoes. You do squish out the liquid. I thought it was tasty. Did have a diferrent taste but I figured hey it's raw.

Yeah I've never tried it - I've heard mixed reviews but I suppose I can only make the decision for myself.

The jicama fries don't need to be dehydrated at all. You can dehydrate for a more fry like texture, or so I've read, but I don't own a dehydrator and so have never made them that way. They're still great :) Didn't even think of making raw ketchup for them, that's a good idea.

I tried these and did not like them. They looked like french fries but it was nothing like a french fry. It was watery and crunchy like an apple-potato hybrid or something with the crunch of a water chestnut. I think they would be good with a raw caramel sauce or something.

Pecans or the nut of your choice with "Seasoned" spices and salt is a really good substitution for seasoned fries. You can even dehydrate them a while and get them crunchier.
I add a little bit of oil (but you can do water) to a bowl of nuts and salt, smoked chipotle (not raw) or tony satcheres (not raw).
I've never made the jicama fries but love jicama as chips for guacamole.

Beside those lovely recipes that you received, i found that eating fresh sweet red pepper helps me to heal craving with starch maybe it could help you too. I haven't tried Allisa's recipes yet but i will soon because i finally found that vegetable she used.

These are not french fry like in any way, but they are beyond DELICIOUS and I cannot imagine wanting anything else while eating them. :)

Actually, I dehydrated my avo fries on low overnight and thought they were a lot like breaded fries. Not quite the same, but a lot more like fries than jicima.
Hmm... now that you've reminded me of these I think I might make some for myself for DS's party on Sunday. Yummm.

Hello I am a student and a part time worker. I have been taking night classes lately twice a week-and this can be frustrating to me food wise, because I don't know what kind of food I could take enough of that will keep me satisfied without spilling all over my backpack. I need help finding containers that don't spill and also some recipes that will last without refridgeration that are both yummy and not repetitive or just chopped up veggies.
I leave home at 9 am and usually don't return home until 10:15pm at night; I commute by bike and ride about 5 miles to school and work, on top of that I usually either swim, yoga or run/stair climb on any given day.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

Try dehydrating the jicama fries 6-8 hours. They are so much better!!!

Ha ha, mine barely make it into the dehydrator, much less stay in overnight!
Maybe I will make a double batch and try to leave some in for longer.
I have only done them for an hour or so, and they are still very creamy when they come out.

I just tried jicama "fries" for the first time today. I drizzled some lemon juice, vinegar, and olive oil on top, and a tiny bit of sea salt. I really liked the crunchy texture and the freshness of it :) They tasted good when I mixed them with the salsa-type salad I made, and the tahini and olive oil and avocadoes on top. Really good!
I will definitely try the avocado fries...those sound amazing!
I also just finished watching Alissa's DVD and I feel so equipped with ideas and inspiration now!
