How fast do you lose weight on the raw diet?

There are many factors which influence this. My answer is this: I only lose weight on a raw diet, so for me it is faster than anything else.

You are pretty close to your goal weight, so you wouldn't lose as quickly as a big grrrl like myself would lose it.

Best Wishes,

Michele

Everyone is different, depends what you eat, if you eat high fat you will lose slower, or high carb people tend to have more energy and active, so then you would potentially be burning more calories.

And I would say it is faster than other diets for most people, often 2-3 times faster, in the beginning, sometimes more.

I've been eating lots of carrots, berries, bananas and nuts. Should I cut out the nuts?

You can experiment, and see what works for you.

A close friend of mine gains weight on a low fat raw diet. Everyone is different.

Really? Maybe I should be counting my calories then.

The absolute best food for weight loss is greens! Many people lose lots of weight being raw, if they are eating appropriately for their body and metabolic type. I know that I do not do well with fats (mostly because if I have nuts in my pantry they will be gone within the day), so I stick to fruits and greens.

On the other hand, some people seem to need to consume healthy fat to lose weight. At the beginning, I think, just make sure you are eating a ton more greens than nuts, and tweak it from there to see what fits your body!

I know I harp on about acid vs alkaline all the time, but seriously- eating appropriately to alkalize your body is one of the easiest "diet plans" to stick to and the absolute best for becoming healthier, stronger, and thinner.

In three weeks, I lost 10lbs and one jean size. I ate all the fruit I wanted, all the salad I wanted with Olive Oil every day. The Olive Oil was cold pressed. I took my food everywhere in a insulated bag or cooler.

I cheated once, last night and have been dealing with it every since. They are not kidding with they tell you that your body will not like it.

I didn't look at calories. I did get a bit concerned over the fat...I took in 20-31% in the form of Olive Oil. In the end, I decided to wait and see. I am pleased with the results. Because I wanted to keep the Olive Oil in, I ate nuts only once or twice during the three weeks. Two of the three weeks I drank a cup of coffee during the night[I work 7pm to 7am]
I am coffee free at the moment.

I am looking at food dehydrators. Do I need one with a timer?
I am looking at models that have adjustable thermostats.

What model do you have and what do you like/don't like about it please?

Thanks

I lose very quickly at first, as much as a pound a day. If eat much cooked food, the weight comes right back on, almost as quickly. It doesn't matter if it's omni, veggie, or vegan cooked food. I've always wondered what it is about cooked food that my body doesn't like; it's like raw, unprocessed food is this enormous relief to my system. I don't really subscribe to the most widely given explanations in the Raw Foods Movement. All I know is raw is good for me, now.

Oh, and raw dairy, eggs...can't lose weight if those are in my diet.

I'm gonna agree that everyone's body is different. I have found that after experimenting with foods that I need more healthy fat to lose. I found that when I cut them out I gained a little. That isn't to say I needed a huge amount I just needed more than most. So experiment & listen to your body & it will tell you what it wants

I have lost 44 pounds in the last 3 1/2 months - my total weight loss goal is 100 pounds. I have eaten all raw for 2 months at a time in the past and lost weight, but this time it has been more difficult, I think it may be because I'm getting older (I'm 36 years old now).

I have had several plateaus, and I can see the patterns of how I am eating when I lose weight versus when I don't. When I eat more dried fruits & nuts, and less greens, I don't lose weight. Also, I really have to watch the amount of dehydrated foods I eat, and it helps tremendously if I eat extremely light some days such as only lemonade or a green smoothie all day until dinner. Also - exercise is becoming much more important and I can see a pattern that when I exercise regularly (fast walking is what I do) the weight comes off faster.

I do agree that everyone is different, and I have also been different at different times over the course of my life.

Hi, a secretchord!
I am new to raw. I am 55 yrs old. I have been doing raw 12-13 days now. Lost 6 pounds.
I am still trying to figure the right combo of greens, fats, etc.
But as everyone is saying, listening to your body works,...whether you are hungry, satisfied, needing fat, needing sweets, needing savory etc.

This is a really interesting thread! I have found that for me, low fat raw (80-10-10) is what makes the weight comes off easily.

I don't get on here very much anymore, but I was pretty depressed when I first started because it seemed like everyone was losing weight faster than I was. However, I am very close to my goal now (Started kindasorta 50% raw at 173 lbs in May 2007, now about 75% -90% raw and weigh 140lbs) I've done 30 day spurts of 100% trying to find the right combination. Here's what I've found:

If I do very low fat, like the 80-10-10, I end up cheating. I can eat a whole loaf of bread with butter and feel sick physically and emotionally... it's like going too low fat makes me depressed and so I sabotage myself. Bread or anything with gluten in it is very bad for me. I have LOTS of symptoms and certainly know better. (Sigh)

If I spend too much time and effort making gourmet raw with the dehydrator and nuts I gain a little weight. Not a lot, but enough to be discouraging.

If I let myself get too hungry I'll fall for the first thing that smells good when I'm out.

For me, the secret has been being prepared in a simple sort of way. I make fruit leathers for when I feel tired and weak so I don't seek any other kind of sugar rush. I no longer allow myself coffee but I can find green tea just about anywhere if I'm convinced I must have caffeine. Mostly I just do without now. I have a lunch box I take with me just about everywhere that has bananas, apples and carrot sticks in it most days.

I own a health food store that has suffered recently and I'm going to let it go. A recent food issue for me has been EXPIRATION DATES!!! I used to have this problem when I worked in restaurants, too. I have this "can't let it waste" mentality where I eat stuff I shouldn't rather than throw it out. (I also give a lot of food away.) I guess in a way it's been good for me because I found out I wear yogurt on my face in pimples. Before I cut out so many SAD foods I had no idea dairy gave me pimples because I had pimples OFTEN!

I strongly suspect when the health food store is gone and I stop eating expired yogurt and working a night job to pay for the store, that I will reach my goal of 135 lbs!

I've had very slow physical improvements in comparison to a lot of people here, but I'm probably a little older and have more health issues than most. I'm very satisfied with my progress when I see someone who hasn't seen me in six months or so and that person is flabbergasted. I have a definite waistline and I don't have pimples anymore except right before my period.

So take the "every body is different" message to heart and know that if you really want to slim down and feel better, changes will come for you, too.
