okay I found this receipe in the Boutenko's book Eating without Heating. My problem is I can't find a bunch of pepermint or spearmint or the lemon balm either. Think its safe to order herbs on the internet??

You take 1 bunch of each in a gallon jar and fill with water. Let soak in the sun for 8 hours or more until a rich golden color.

Yields 1 gallon.

This does not help you immediately, but if you live in a sunny environment, you can grow mint very easily.

As far as ordering on-line, I have never heard of anyone selling fresh mint leaves. Perhaps you can ask you store to special order?

Blessings.

I will have to have a go at growing some, but I seem to have a black thumb..lol

We do live in extremely sunny weather until afternoon when we get a few thunder bumpers this time of year.

I did ask our local grocer to order some special and they will only do it if a lot of people are requesting it....I might just have to wait until I get to Houston again.

Do you have to know speical things to grow the mints?

You almost can NOT kill mint. It spreads soooo easy, and is extremely hardy. A friend who gave me an herb garden for my birthday in April told me to keep pinching the mint to help it grow. I asked her what to do w/the extra mint, and she told me to dry it. Mint is EXTREMELY hardy. Don't completely neglect it, but, it is pretty easy to keep it growing.

I agree with SwishTN. It is a hardy plant.

Mint is a lovely thing to start turning that black thumb green Mommax4 !
Everyone is correct in the fact it is hard to kill. It is a perennial and spreads a great deal!
It can tolerate any soil, any amount of sunlight or shade~ a great thing for a beginner to grow and you dont need to know anything other than buy transplants from the nursery! Starting mint from seed is difficult and it has a long germination period, so plants are the way to go starting out.

Orange mint and apple mint are yummy for tea.
Let us know how it goes.

BTW~Freezing mint leaves in ice cubes and adding them to your beverages is a great way to use up any "pinchings"

Blessings~

Thank you all!! :) Okay, I am headed to the local nurseries to find some mint.

OOOHhh maybe this is a good excuse to get back to Austin and the Natural Gardener...lol Sounds like a good excuse right? Drive 4 hours for mint to plant? lol

I might yet get a green thumb...
