the health food store says miso is always raw...the label doesn't say anything about it:confused:

It's fermented soy (I believe), so while not technically raw, it has live cultures.
At least, that's what I think.
Edited to add: I guess I should find out for sure before I go off answering questions. Sorry.

I've always been confused by miso. Usually in the ingredient list I see bonito flakes and that is fish. Also, it is full of sodium. I know lots of raw foodists use this product, so I would love to know more about it and where to get it without fish flakes and the sodium!

miso is not raw as it is made with cooked soybeans.
HOWEVER
it is fermented, like rejuvalac, kombucha, sauerkraut, kim chee etc, and is perfectly fine to eat on a living foods diet.

I don't considered miso to be compatible with being "100%", so I don't use it.

not all miso is from soy. I've seen it made out of rice too. the raw store by me carries miso so I've always trusted that to be raw. I'm not sure what brand it is because I don't have any right now.

Also made of chickpeas, black beans and probably some other stuff I don't know about. None of it is raw but it's a live food.
