hi,
i'd like to talk with rawfoodtalk members about the cooked starches vs. raw starches fact.
Here is the truth...according to me...
I've been raw since november 2008, not 100 percent but 80 percent.I was eating veggies and fruit during the day, then i remember i had raw food cravings so i ate carrots and above all raw potatoes. Here is the truth now,i manage to lose a lot of weight eating this way, eating raw starches in fact.My weight dropped from 88 kg to 76 kg and i was running two times a week and still manage to lose weight and fat. Now,i don't eat raw starches anymore but cooked ones and let me tell you this,it is a big big mistake.I always feel bloated, nauseous and the mucus my goodness i feel like shit everyday now, my weight doesn't comme off anymore.I am at 73 kg right now but to maintain this weight i run three to four times a week 45 minutes otherwise i would put on fat which i don't want to.
So if fellow members would like to discuss,it would be great...and share your experiences too...

hmm..
What do you add when your cook them ? How do you eat them raw, in a recipe ? Blended ..?
I've been having cravings for soft starchy foods. I tried to soak carrots in water and put the in the dehydrator to soften them... ya it didn't work... lol.

i don't add nothing at all,i just eat them especially raw carrots and raw potatoes. But when i cook them,i just add salt and oil.Another thing to discuss, i replaced the potatoes with brown rice.

Maybe its the salt and oil?
Do you have any ideas of ways to soften carrots/yams/potatoes without cooking them and using oils?
Brown rice better for you than potatoes?

as i said,i eat potatoes, carrots and sometimes soaked brown rice raw.And yes, brown rice is superior to potatoes but you feel nauseous, bloated, sick and you get that mucus thing which make you feel like shit...
I used to think it was the salt but no it is the cooked starches from rice etc...
to soften them a bit, maybe try to put them in vinegar...or lemon juice

I don't recommend anyone to eat raw potatoes, it cans be very toxic. I cannot remember the name of the poison it transmutes into when exposed to light but take my word you don't want that in your body. The potatoes that contain greens is a big no no. Just be careful with this. On the other hand, you can try sweet potatoes. Those are absolutely delicious raw. I made pasta with them and eat them with a Japanese style noddle sauce or Alfredo style sauce. If you have raw peas and corn, this is delicious with that.
I agree that cook starch will stuff you system and body and even lead to gain weight. I will even add rice with that and all cook starch are in my opinion not good for my body. They are addictive and this is why, while detoxing on raw food we crave for them still, but i believe it will clear the system at some point if you hang in there with raw food. They are also comfort food and they are even more tempting during stress.
I made exception with these cook starch during my raw journey and it only did lead to negative effect then good. Green smoothie helps to heal the craving and also sweet red pepper for me. When i crave for cook potato or starch, sweet red pepper works for me. I just eat that as an apple
Good thread, thank you for starting this.

Why not use things that you can sprout instead.
You can sprout wild rice and quinoa.

i've been playing with yams specifically for the starch for long endurance workouts
this week i soaked em, did some mild dehydration, blended in them in the food processor with a red bell pepp, dates
pretty yummy
i did a couple of different versions
chips in the dehyd, "custard" in the fp, "bars" in the dhyd with protein powder
the starch feels "starchy" but i was able to run up the mountain at the front of the pack!
