I came across a never used dehydrator today for $5. It is a snackmaster jr.
No instructions. No temp setting. Does anyone know how hot these things get and have instructions on using them? I tossed a few things in it to see how it works. It dehydrated kale chips in a few hours is this normal?
This is not on the recall list so I think it is safe to use but will not leave it on when no one is around.
Is it dehydrating of cooking the stuff?

I don't think the temperature will be in the raw range. I had seen a similar single-temperature dehydrator from nesco that I was thinking of buying and it didn't have a manual. So I called the customer support and they told me that its temperature goes to 136 degrees (or something like that). I'm guessing it should be similar for this dehydrator too. To be sure, you can call their customer support.

If you feeling really adventurous I can tell you it is possible to disable the heating element on those, I've done it. And things will still dehydrate at room temp it will just take a bit longer. I can't remember the details but it didn't involve soldering. Just had to open the base and rearrange the wiring. Be careful :)

You should put a household thermometer in to it first to make sure that you have a problem to fix.
