I go grocery shopping tomorrow and would like to start purchasing some raw products. Any suggestions as to what I should start out with? Should I just get a bunch of raw fruits and vegetables and nuts? I have no idea what I'm doing. I am going to buy Alissa Cohen's book but it probably won't be for awhile. In the meantime, your help would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

There was a similar thread
HERE (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=43541)
which includes a photo of my grocery cart (and a list of what's in it).

Oh, you sound just like I did last week!
That's what I did. I buy all the raw stuff I like best. I found my eating evolved rather rapidly. Fruit is my staple, with bananas being number one.
I'm still waiting for my book.

The lists look great. Dates and carob will come in handy for raw desserts. Of course lots of greens for salads and smoothies. Sunflower seeds are cheap and versatile. I use them for malking milk, sprouting for salads, and snacking.
There are some threads on this site, such as "what are you eating now," that can give you a lot of ideas. Just use the banana search above.
Look through the monthly challenges. Those that are participating in them usually list what they have been eating for the day.
Good luck!

The one thing that I would not be without (as well as fruit of course) is flax seed.

Can I eat any kind of breads or pastas? If not, is there a supplement? I need my carbs!
So I really don't need to count calories anymore?

Speaking from my own experience I felt that I needed bread for a while. I satisfied the need with flax crackers and onion bread and the need quickly passed. I still occasionally indulge but just for variety and not because of any need.
You do not need to count calories but it would not be wise to overdo the fat. It is not because of the calories but just because of your bodies ability to deal with it. It will make you slow and sluggish and clogged up.

Don't eat bread or pasta!!! There are plenty of raw recipes that mimic this stuff, but I found it so much easier to just go cold turkey. It's amazing how quickly your cravings disappear. Now I look at a piece of white bread and cannot understand how I ever thought of it as food.
And if you're raw, almost everything you're eating is carbohydrate. Fruit like bananas and stuff is a really good replacement for the yucky refined carbs you think you need.
And on the counting calories thing, I actually have to eat all day nonstop to get anywhere close to the calories I used to eat on SAD. But I'm less hungry and so happy because the nutrient to calorie ratio is so much higher on raw.

Use a vegetable peeler on zuchini for pasta. It taste great with sauce. You can cut wider pieces for lasagna.
