Hi. I'm a 29-year-old mother of one. Just started dieting about 2 weeks ago. Started taking Alli a week ago. I am needing to lose at least 25 pounds. I haven't had any luck with any other diets and I'm thinking about trying the raw foods. I'm going to give my current 1200 calorie diet another week and then switch. It will be a huge change for me and I could use all the support that I can. I used to be vegetarian so it shouldn't be too hard. However, I don't have a lot of support from my husband and son, who eat terribly. It's nice to be here and I hope to learn a lot from the forum!

Hey there! Welcome~! You aren't the only one who's tried "everything". Alli? EWWW!!!
With eating Raw? It's a healing first and weight elimination second. You may not get the INSTANT results you want, but you will be healing and THEN eliminating weight.
Don't compare to anyone as everyBODY is different.
If you stick to a 100% Raw 30-day challange, you will see amazing results!
Also, I'd get Alissa's book and DVDs - the BEST. Will really guide you through this healing, healthy change.
Good luck!
Oh! Another thing when going Raw? Don't think about the foods you CAN'T have anymore, but rather all the new and exciting and DELISHIOUS foods you are now going to consume and become healthy for eating.

Can anyone give me a list of foods you can/cannot eat on a raw diet, and maybe some substitutes?

hey there! i know that it can be scary to be start a new diet, but honestly - raw food will free you from food. the first time i read that i thought, yeah, right! but it does. veganforlife is right, don't think about the stuff you can't eat - think about the yummy things that you can feast on! i still cook dinner for my hubby and two boys, and now that i've chosen to be raw it is not hard to do. (first couple of weeks are rough!) it is worth it!! let us know how you are!

I was reading somewhere that a raw diet can help with depression. I have had clinical depression since a child and so I'm hoping that this diet would improve that as well as my body. I gained 20 pounds this winter and I feel so disgusting. Can't wait to start feeling alive again!

You can eat any fresh and raw fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds. You can also eat foods that have been dehydrated. I tend to stay below 110 degrees F when dehydrating.
With the dehydrator you can make tons of food that taste and resemble SAD foods. You can use nut milks to replace milk and frozen bananas to replace ice cream. Alissa's book has all the information you are looking for. The recipe section on this forum will give you many great raw creations to make.
As long as you are eating raw, you can eat until satisfied and still loose weight. No more depriving yourself!

What started me on this path was the "Alternate Day Diet" where you eat whatever you want one day then the next day you limit your calories to 500 or less. I did that for a couple weeks and the pounds just fell off!
On the 500 calorie days I would eat vegetables and a small piece of salmon and maybe an apple or some almonds and after of a couple weeks I just kinda fell into this raw food phenomenon with the green smoothies and all. From the start my body has been telling me what it wants, and what it wants is raw food! It seems every few days I no longer like or want the things I used to. I haven't given up dairy yet but my body doesn't seem to want it anymore - so it seems that will be next.
Good luck!
