I have a friend who has been having extremely low iron issues her whole life since she was 17. Her iron does not bind and hence she is always weak. On one hand I want to get her into the raw lifestyle but on the other hand I know people who are raw have trouble with iron sometimes. Here are some of the things she says she is going through:
' I have been put on an iron-supplement regiment for the 3rd time in 3 years. i am currently taking 325 mg. of iron per day, for 3 months. my ferritin level is 6.'
'at one point, when i was determined to donated platelets in 2002, i ate a sandwich of roast beef with spinach leaves on high-iron bread EVERY sINGLE DAY FOR A MONTH... and snacked on raisins, drank orange juice, the whole bit... and my iron was STILL too low! the lady was shocked.'
If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

She could try getting iron from more natural foods such as spinach and dark leafy greens. It is probably harder for her to keep iron in her body as she may have a blood disorder?

I was iron deficiency since a child. Since that i do green smoothie, i don't supplement anymore. Before that i did the angstrom size mineral as recommended by David Wolf and this has worked for me. Then i started raw food and i didn't need to supplement anymore. I do feel that the angstrom size mineral helped me. According to some research if you have mineral deposit in your blood stream, the angstrom size mineral will help to clear this out. It has worked for me.
Greens is rich in Iron and many more nutriments. I read somewhere that if you take green with vitamin c such lemon, orange, grapefruit it will help the body to take the iron. I didn't make any change, just followed my body's need. I do consume so much lemon in my raw diet because of recipes already.
I my humble opinion iron from plant is what my body's need.
p.s Make sure she isn't vitamin D and B12 deficient also, low b12 cans lead to an iron deficiency.
