I love growing wheatgrass and really want to drink the juice but everytime I do, even in small amts and mixed with other greens/lemon/apple I get sick to my stomach feeling all day. I don't drink more than 1 ounce and always on an empty stomach. I just feel so bad chucking another tray especially since I finally got it to grow mold free, and the roots are perfect and white, so pretty, I am so proud yet so sad :(

Give it a try after a Meal and see how that works. It can be Very Strong and can take a while to adjust with your Body. Sometimes you have to keep trying different ways in order to find one that works for you. I began drinking it and then lying down for a while until I got over the quezzy feeling. Now I can order one for me and one for the Road.

Nice to hear, it lasts most of the day right now so I havested the whole tray and put it in the fridge for now. I have a big 2 days coming up ( we are opening our bike park this weekend http://adkbikeranch.com ) so I will try again on sunday. I'm going to order the healthy juicer too.

Always made me slightly nauseous, too. Plus I just hated the taste. After several tries, I thought why am I putting myself through this just because it's supposed to be good for me. I decided to stick with mangos and watermelon instead. :D

I tried it for the first time last week and I thought it was the most horrible thing I've ever had to drink! Then I left the tray sitting by the window and it grew a few more inches so I cut it down again and tried it and it was 100% better - I was really surprised. It still wasn't good, lol, but it was drinkable.

I wonder if eating the sprouted seeds has much benefit, they taste okay.

Maybe you have a wheat allergy... it's very common. 1 in 4 people are wheat/gluten sensitive and some of those people are intollerant. Both of my sisters are allergic to it (different father) but I don't want to take my chances and avoid all grains if i can.

Wheatgrass isn't supposed to affect people with wheat allergies in that way.

Today I tried making it in the vitamix w/ 1 cup of water and 2 handfulls of grass, and strained it. It was diluted and easier to go down and I had been eating banannas all day and so far so good.

You may have insufficient stomach acidity (do you, perhaps, regularly consume a large proportion of your raw calories as fruit?).

Try taking an enzyme capsule (one that includes betaine hydrochloride) with your next shot of wheatgrass, and see how you get on. If you have insufficient stomach acidity, the wheatgrass may just sit in your stomach and take ages to digest. Sounds weird but I've experienced this in the past, myself. Only one way for you to find out for yourself - try it and see.

Wait until the wheatgrass grows enough that it has a split/fork/second blade of grass showing on most of the blades.
Water it well the evening before you are planning on juicing it.
Water the juice down a little with filtered water... we often go 1/3 water in ours.

Thanks, that sounds like me :) I will have to try that. I just don't want to give up on the power of wg!

I've tried drinking wheat grass juice, 1-2 oz, 3 or 4 times in the past, on an empty stomach as well as full, and each time I felt nauseous for at least a couple hours afterward. :(

I was wondering if perhaps it had to do with a wheat/gluten intolerance (which I'm not sure I have), but if the juice doesn't contain gluten, I'm left considering an explanation that someone gave me, who is a regular at drinking wheat grass (5 oz at a time!!!).

He told me that nausea is a sign that the wheat grass is causing toxins to be released...any thoughts?

I'm glad that stomach acidity was mentioned because I was worried that a weak stomach lining or something similar was the problem. I've had a herniated esophagus since I was 15 and was on all sorts of prescriptions for controlling stomach acid for a couple years after being diagnosed, and I'm thinking my stomach may still be recovering. :/

I recently read in meyowitz' wheat grass book that outdoor grown grass is milder in taste. But I have to weed out slugs from outdoor grass:mad::eek: I don't have enough time.

Over the weekend - I took my 2 trays on a field trip! They were well established, about 4 inch high, I placed them in the a sunny location while I gardened, took them in at dark.

did this 2 days in a row, probably about 6 hours of sun for them - They LOVED IT! Meyowitz says only about 3 hours of sun, but I did longer as one tray was trying to get moldy and I wanted the sun to burn it up.

the blades were broader, thicker and greener. When I finally juiced it - the taste was much more mild, and I was able to drink more than previously.

Maybe this could help?

There are so many greens out there - why drink something that doesn't make you feel good? Try juicing kale, collards, beet greens, lambsquarters, etc.
