Now that you guys are raw...do you look at other food and first think "wow...poison"? Where I work..everything people eat is processed....theres nothing I can eat, and on top of that...they feed it to the children...I watch people eat it and I think of them eating poison and quickly killing their insides...

is that normal? It seems like good thoughts, but does everyone else immediately think like this too? And this happens when I watch tv too...I never realized how everyone ate until just recently....

Would this be considered personal growth? I feel I'm growing away from the things I used to eat...my cravings are going away.

I don't look at it as poison, I just look at it like it is that plastic barbie doll food we used to play with as kids. or that wax food that they have in the windows of restaurants in Japan.

But, I wouldn't want to eat it either.

Autumn thats exactly how I see it. Whenever I see food or drink commercials I think OMG thats poision. Actually I call Pepsi and Coca Cola the "black posion" coz thats exactly what it is.

Well, I haven't reached that point, viewing the "other stuff" as poison, but I do think of people eating food with little or no nutritional value (vitamin and mineral wise). They might as well eat cardboard for all the good it's doing them, I guess.

And my wonderful spouse sometimes gets a bit annoyed with me touting the fresh foods, saying, "Well, if cooked food doesn't provide any vitamins, minerals, or anything beneficial, how have people lived eating it since cave men learned about fire?"

So, that usually shuts me up. Because it's true, cooked food does keep people going. Just not in healthy ways a lot of the time. Hence the need for vitamin and mineral supplements. And the processed foods, well, even he admits that's just junk.

My mom is 87, and she was raised on a strict "meat-vegetable-starch" regimen. However, her mom made everything from scratch, nothing in boxes on a shelf in the store. So, that right there was a big difference than what we find today.

Well, anyway, there's all different opinions about everything, but all I know is THIS works for me. I feel great, I love the food I'm eating because it tastes wonderful, cleanup is a snap, I even like *gasp* SHOPPING for the freshest stuff I can find!

So, the rest of the world can do what it wants, I'm sticking to my "fad diet" (as someone mentioned to me last week) (that will teach me to keep my mouth shut!) and I'll be all I can be without the harmful additives and preservatives. Yeah!

Still, I understand your reaction. Hey, just have fun, and leave them to their own designs. We can't change the world, only ourselves. Took years to realize that, by the way!

I have tried to use this mentality to keep me from snacking on SAD stuff. Sometimes it works, but more times it doesn't. I wish I really 'felt' that stuff was poison, I know it is logically BUT I cave into the posion anyway. :(

I believe it was actress Gloria Swanson that was adamant about the 'poison' people were eating. She once sat at a conference table with people eating pastries and coffee. She nudged the young man sitting next to her, said the others were eating poison and offered him a piece of fruit and something from her thermos. She went on to say she had hardened herself and they could be eating crushed glass in front of her, she would just smile. The young man grew older and wrote a book titled 'Sugar Blues' in which he shows the history and effects of that poison. His brief conversation with Miss Swanson was the first he had ever heard of something being wrong with food.

I too, sometimes, in public will look up seeing the people around me and it's like time freezes momentarily. I feel so bad for them, knowing they are killing themselves. Then the moment passes and my life goes on. It is a very humbling feeling.

Talk to those who have an interest. Leave the rest to their 'crushed glass'. Maybe some will listen to you. If you can find others in your area interested in raw, even if it's an hour away, you can get together and have a local support group, which will grow over time and you will feel a sense of helping others.

Me also. I wish I could tell everyone I see about what is really going on. It pains me to walk by people in grocery stores & other public places & see them buying or consuming things that are nothing more than a burden to their system and just silently walk on by...

Yes I do see theses unnatural things I once referred to as food as toxins/poison now.

Cooked food is poison. You see, its not the actual fruit or vegetable that is poisinous (spelt that wrong) but the chemicals that go into them. I mean how can one say that fish isn't posionous, its not the poor fish but the mercury it contains from the polluted water it swims in.

I used to work for a major supermarket chain in their Corporate Office and know for a FACT that they spray their apples 18 times while they are being stored BEFORE the apples hit the supermarkets. The same company suppressed an article that confirmed some pregnant women were so effected by the chemicals that they used on their apples that they bore babies with birth defects and no way will they publish this, it went straight in the CONFIDENTIAL folder and stayed there!!!

I cant always buy organic but i will ALWAYS only eat organic apples. If that is the only fruit you can afford than please do your health a favour and only purchase them.

I believe that Jo-anne.
When I moved recently I went to the produce department for boxes. I got apple, banana, lemon and orange boxes. When I read the boxes I was shocked. On the side it listed all the chemicals everyone of these fruits is sprayed with...and there are many. I looked the chemicals up to see what they were and could not believe it.

This article on the apples worries me because it was the store that was doing the spraying. How do we know that the same store is not spraying the organic produce as well. Just because it was organic entering the store no longer means that it is organic coming out. If they are unscrupulous enough to hide the report then they would take such an action. We do not all have access to farmers markets and sometimes have to buy from the larger stores

Just because it was organic entering the store no longer means that it is organic coming out. If they are unscrupulous enough to hide the report then they would take such an action. We do not all have access to farmers markets and sometimes have to buy from the larger stores Sport, how true is that! Thank You. We have to be proactive on our health care and what we consume - if you can not buy organic, then make sure that you have a veggie and fruit wash available or food grade hydrogen perxiode to clean your fruit and veggies. EVERY pharmacy even in WalMart has the ability to order what you need and it is not that costly. Here are a some uses of this product ( be mindful there are detractors as well, but thiws has worked well for me. It must always be diluted).

Vegetable Soak: Add ¼ cup H2O2 to a full sink of cold water. Soak light skinned (light lettuce) 20 minutes, thicker skinned (like cucumbers) 30 minutes. Drain, dry and refrigerate. Prolongs freshness.

If time is problem, spray vegetable (and fruits) with a solution of 3%. Let stand for a few minutes, rinse and dry.

Leftover Tossed Salad:Spray with solution of ½ cup water and 1 tablespoon of 3%. Drain, cover and refrigerate.

To Freshen Kitchen:Keep a spray bottle of 3% in the kitchen. Use it to wipe off counter tops and appliances. It will disinfect and give the kitchen a fresh smell. Works great to clean refrigerator and kids' school lunch boxes.

In the Dishwasher: Add 2 ounces of 3% H2O2 to your regular washing formula.

Sprouting Seeds: Add 1 ounce of 3% H2O2 to 1 pint of water and soak the seeds overnight. Add the same amount of H2O2 each time you rinse the seeds.

House and Garden Plants: Put 1 ounce of 3% H2O2 in 1 quart water. Water or mist plants with this solution.

Humidifiers and Steamers: Mix 1 pint of 3% H2O2 to 1 gallon of water.

Insecticide Spray: Mix 8 ounces black strap molasses or white sugar and 8 ounces of 3% H2O2 to 1 gallon water.

Laundry:Add 8 ounces of 3% to your wash in place of bleaches.

Shower: Keep a spray bottle of 3% H2O2 in the shower. Spray body after washing to replace the acid mantle on your skin that soap removes.

Facial:Use 3% on cotton ball as a facial freshner after washing.

Rejuvenating Detoxifying Bath:
Add 6 ounces of 35% H2O2 to ½ tub of water. May increase H2O2 up to 2 cups per bath. Soak at least at ½ hour.

Alternate Bath:Add ½ cup of 35% H2O2, ½ cup sea salt, ½ cup baking soda or Epsom salts to bath water and soak.

Foot Soak:Add 1 ½ ounces of 35% H2O2, to 1 gallon water and soak.

Athlete's Foot: Soak feet nightly in 3% H2O2 until condition is improved.

Mouthwash:Use 3% H2O2. Add a dash of liquid chlorophyll for flavoring if desired.

Toothpaste:Add baking soda and add enough 3% H2O2 to make a paste. Or just dip your brush in 3% H2O2 and brush.

Douche:Add 6 tablespoons of 3% H2O2 to a quart of warm water. This is the minimum amount to use.

Colonic or Enema: For a colonic, add 1 cup (8 ounces) 3% H2O2 to 5 gallons warm water. (Do not exceed this amount). For an enema, add 1 tablespoon of 3% H2O2 to a quart of warm water.

Hydroponics: For every 30 gallons of nutrient solution, pre-dilute three to six tablespoons of 35% H2O2 to a gallon of distilled water. Then slowly add to the nutrient solution, stirring gently. If you are mixing up a fresh batch of nutrient solution, pour in half of the water first (preferably with a high purity of essence) and add the H2O2. Add the nutrients to the other half, then gently combine the two halves.

I have the responibility for the health ministry at my church. As a result, I am always "teased" about how I eat. I do not tell people what to eat at all, I make suggestions, and provide information through news articles in our paper, preparing vegan dishes for events, and raw dishes as well, and lastly try to look healthy and well. That has been really working out well since being raw, as I have eliminated some weight ( I do not say lost, as it could be found and return :) ), learn some better things about myself, and I smile more. I recently did a workshop and went through some monkey chatter prior to that because I am not small enough, (so I thought), my hair is thin, ( so who cared) and I had dark circles under my eyes, and a small blotch on my cheeck from a congested liver - well, I saw those things, and all I got was compliments on how pretty my skin was. I have written here several times, "be a picture, and even strangers will want to know what you are doing." - We can change the world, however, only if we do it one person at a time, beginning with us. I can't speak for anyone else but me, but only having become enlightened, I am only two steps from my past, I can not judge another for that, that they are not doing, on encourage them by being the best me I can be, at all time. ;)

The supermarket I purchase from also sells organic apples which are pre-bagged but they also have the organic logo. Make sure anything you purchase has this logo so you can be sure of its quality. I usually only buy my apples from them and then do the rest of my grocery shopping at farmers markets, if I cant get my hands on organic apples then I would purchase them from the markets but peel them first before consuming.

The supermarket chain I used to work for buy their apples in bulk from the farmers way before they have rippened but they store them in cold storage where they are repeatedly sprayed and then waxed until they enter the supermarkets for sale.

Now with the farmers markets, if you cant purchase organic, then the next best thing would be to purchase from these markets, you can be sure they havent been sprayed anywhere near the amount the supermarket chain does.

And like sweetlips mentioned, wash all your fruit not just apples with products that will eliminate those harmful chemicals. And definitely if you have children always peel those apples first unless of course they are organic.

Its absolutely disgusting how these supermarkets can be allowed to get away with this, but then again it all comes down to how much money they can make.

Little note to ponder on: have you ever bought a nice looking apple only to bite into it and find out that its rotting from the core! real fruit and I mean real fruit doesnt rot from the inside out it rots from outside and works its way into the apple.

I hope I didnt incite any fear into anyone, I just wanted you all to know, I believe in knowledge is power, the more we educate ourselves the more healthy we become and less prone to sickness.

Good health to all!!!

I certainly think of the processed, chemical filled, additive foods as "poison" and not even as a mechanism or gimmick to stop me from eating them. I just really do believe that.

There's a lot of good, real food out there that just happens to have been cooked, however. I don't think of it as poison, but as food which contains far less nutrition than its raw counterpart.

Non-organic apples I would never touch again. Gabriel Cousens, in his book "Conscious Eating", puts apples on the list of non-organic fruits which are not safe, along with pears, strawberries, peaches, and raisins. (page 441 of the 850 page edition)

I feel saddened when I see people at work during lunch heating up their "Lean Cuisines" or similar foods, they're really not eating "food". I guess I'm a food snob, dh eats meat and chicken(so did I, till I decided to attempt 30 days raw) but we only buy meat, eggs, cheese, butter etc. from an Amish farm that grass(pesticide free) feeds their animals, uses no antibioitcs or hormones, the milk is raw also. So when I see people eating a chicken breast I'm still thinking about the hormones and antibiotics in that chicken.

I feel sad and hopelss when I see people I know or just the general public buying all the processed foods. I want to lecture and yell at them, but I know it won't do any good haha. I'm only 18, why listen to me!? Even if they see and comment on the improvements of my mentality and physique, they won't do a thing to change their diet. They go on to complain about aches, pains, ect and ugh, they won't listen! I DO look at those foods as "poison." In fact, I walked into McD's as my mom got a plain chicken sandwich and I literally felt overwhelmed with just the smell and felt sick to my stomach. It took me an hour to not feel poisoned and contaminated. Maybe I'm over sensative lol.

As for the sprayed apples...I'm sensative to chemicals (who isn't!?) and puff up. Well, getting all organic produce is VERY expensive here, so I have my dad get all non-organic because I feel guilty since I'm the only one eating the produce in the house. I realize when I don't wash them, I feel addicted to them. I also randomly puff up without thinking it's the chemicals on the apples. I heard grapes are the most sprayed though. It may be apples because I've never heard of the spraying in the back, that's horrible! They should bring that out to public knowledge. Some people may be so sensative to chemicals that they have horrible life threatening reactions, then again that means law suits.

I was on the computer friday night and my hubby was channel hopping and lingered on a program (on UK TV Channel) for a few mins that was relating how gelatin was made. They were pointing out that a lot of the animal bones used were imported from india and that a spot check had shown that some human bones were included. He changed the channel and I made no comment because he likes his trifle (we make that with gelatin). I do not know if this will stop him occasionally eating it but I would think that the thought of being a canabal would have a serious effect on anyone's eating pattern.
