Ok, so, the only drawback I have found to eating greens galore is the stain on my teeth. Mine is worse because I used to drink yerba mate like it was going out of style (I can't anymore, it hurts my brain!), so the color is slowly fading.

What do ya'll do, if anything, about keeping your teeth white?

It is a minor drawback, to be sure, and if I was super concerned about it, I would buy one of those expensive whitening kits, but I don't like chemicals and I am looking for something more natural.

So, how bout it???

:D

I recommend Xyliwhite toothpaste. I've never used anything else as it is fluoride free and whitens better than every toothpaste I've ever used. Also, make sure to floss! I also highly, highly recommend that you after you rinse with water after brushing, you use diluted hydrogen peroxide as an oral rinse. Spit it out, but don't rinse again with water. The peroxide residue will stay on your teeth and bubble the stains away for a good 20 minutes before being washed away by saliva. Do this for a month and you will notice that your teeth look remarkably better.

I floss a couple times a day-I have to, I have all my wisdom teeth:D, so no worries there. I will try that toothpaste & the peroxide rinsing - which is really simple -sounding...I didn't know that would help at all!

Thanks!

You don't even have to get that exact toothpaste since it can be hard to find. I only got it because I live near a co-op here in San Francisco that sells it. Just grab any good natural toothpaste such as the Jason brands found even in your local drug store and you should be set. However, I can definitely tell you that if you also rinse with the hydrogen peroxide every night before bed for a month or two, you WILL have people asking you if you used whitestrips. Best of all, it's a fraction of a fraction of the cost!

I brush my teeth with a mix of baking soda and a bit of peroxide. Then I rinse with 1 cap full of water mixed with 1 cap full of peroxide. Swish it around for a count of about a minute and my teeth feel like I just walked out of the dentist's office. They've also whitened significantly since I started doing it.

I also have a Siwak that I use occasionally, which is supposed to keep teeth clean and white.

Wow, a Siwak. Now that's going hardcore natural. It works though!

What's a Siwak, plx?

I use baking soda mainly.

Just getting back into it though.

I used baking soda exclusively for about 7 years - and my teeth started getting very sensitive to hot and cold, so I switched back to one of those enamel strengthening toothpastes for a few years and the sensitivity went away.

So - I'm a bit concerned about it honestly.

baking soda is very abrasive, i dont think people reccommend it straight on the teeth every day. Maybe you could try once or twice a week? anything abrasive can wear away enamel.

The miswak (miswaak, siwak) is a natural toothbrush made from the twigs of the Salvadora persica tree, also known as the arak tree or the peelu.

I have heard of people doing oil pulling to whiten teeth. I myself have yet to try that.

My teeth are always noticeably whiter when I am eating raw. I think it's because I no longer drink teas and coffee. ;) But I definitely notice a difference after a few weeks to a month completely raw.

Where do you get the siwak ?

I used to buy mine on Amazon.com but they no longer sell them. I haven't needed a new one in awhile so I haven't researched where else to get them. There are probably plenty of places online to buy them.

Thanks for all the recommendations! The siwak sounds cool - I want one!

I did oil pulling a few years ago, and it did help with whitening my teeth a bit, but I can only do it with coconut oil & I can't afford evco right now. When I can, I'll definitely try that again, why not :).

I'm going to try the peroxide rinse...I can't do baking soda more than once a month because it makes my teeth sensitive. I don't drink tea or coffee, but I do drink kombucha (I make sure to at least rinse my teeth afterward, to rinse off the acid). I'm very fond of sour flavors, so I know this affects my enamel. I was using an enamel restoring toothpaste for a while, and it seemed to help, but, again, low on the dinero at the moment.

Being raw doesn't help the stains for me...they are from years of drinking yerba mate, eating frozen wild blueberries, kale, oh, and back in 2003, I got this great deal on pumpkin seeds & I was making pumpkin seed butter - the oil turned my teeth teal! I don't think the greens would have done it by themselves, but, with everything else, they make it difficult to reverse the stains. I'm otherwise really lucky, though - I've never had a cavity & I have all my teeth.

One thing at a time!

Thanks again :)

My teeth are getting alittle green after all the juices too. Anyone use the herb `horsetail' to clean their teeth?

I brush with my regular tooth paste and then follow with peroxide. Seems to work very well for me.

ephbulay, I don't think anyone has called you on this yet, but you are resurrecting several old threads without adding much to the conversation. It looks like you are just promoting your toothpaste, instead of interested in the Raw Vegan lifestyle.

Rubbing the inside of a banana peel across your teeth is supposed to whiten them.
