I'm ready willing and able to begin another fast tomorrow. I really want to get my head into the 'zone' and so I'm starting a new thread and hoping anyone who is fasting will come and join me!

I don't really like doing short fasts. I really prefer to do extended fasts and I'm hoping this one will be an extended fast.

BUT... fasting has been a real challenge for me this year. I was about to say I'm not sure why it is but I know why it's been such a challenge. I've been under so much stress. So much has been going on in my personal life - none of which I share online - and that has really made it difficult for me to get into that space of "love, light and fasting bliss" that I am soooooooooooo wanting for myself right now.

I am hoping that by starting a new thread and making a commitment to myself I can get back on track and do this. I'm also hoping there will be other fasters to support me on my journey. So...

Here I go again!!!

Monday, April 13th - will be Day One for me... and hopefully I'll still be fasting 60 days from now. I don't want to make any promises to myself... but that's what I'm hoping for...

love and light,
Aleesha
ps I need a hug. :(

I was just adding my 'fasting day count' to my calendar on my puter and I realized that day 64 is a very important day for me and I really want to be fasting on that day. So there is my goal for myself... to fast beyond day 64!

I can do this *can you see me giving myself a pep talk here?* ... I can I can I can.

I am I am I am!!!

(((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))

Yes, you CAN!!!! If anyone can, it's clearly YOU!

Stress has stopped me from fasting, too, but I also just decided not to allow it to anymore, & committed last night to begin Monday as well,
so you have one person joinin' ya, at least!

I also want to do a looooooooooooooooooooong one, but hesitate cuz I've already lost so much hair & am concerned about shedding more...so I'm take it one day at a time, & will keep taking MSM while I'm fasting, & am looking into other things that will help prevent this....{any ideas?}

are you doing a juice one, or water only?

I'm leaning towards total water...was considering the master cleanse, but have no maple syrple right now, & no $ for any for awhile...

C'mon, anyone else who's been considering it!
Join us!
The more the merrier!

i'm doing juice and water... whatever moves me in that moment... but i'm planning on at least 4 litres of water every day and then juices if needed.

i've never heard of fasting causing hair loss... that totally sucks :( have you researched it to find out what may be missing from your body/diet so you can add in the juices of foods that have what you need?

i have got to get to sleep... but my mind is not calming down. i think i'll go sit in meditation for a bit and then that should make my sleep come easier. thanks for joining me anastazia... we can do this together!!!

@ Aleesha- I have been reading your blog and your posts here for a long time- you are an inspiration!
I ve been kind of on a fast- meaning I start and then by the end of the day I eat, start again tomorrow and repeat the cycle...

Well, not today!

I would like to juice feast for healing (my cervix is not in the best condition), but also weight loss...
I was hoping for 30 days, I guess that is short for you, huh ;)

How do you stay on track, or rather, how did you used to do it when you started out?
How do you not give in to temptation...Food doesn't fullfil me the way it used to, plus then I feel guilty, too, but it is just so much easier...

I hear you, Aleesha. I've been spiraling steadily downward ever since discontinuing my extended fast at the end of last year. Physically and emotionally. I hope I've hit bottom, I can't imagine sinking any lower. I've had splitting headaches for several days now, am bloated, my muscles and joints ache, and yesterday I was running a fever. I have been "unable" to make juice. It's an absolute mental block which makes no sense whatsoever, but there it is.
Enough of the pity party. I'm taking a hold of my boot straps now and pulling myself together. Thanks for starting a new thread, Aleesha, I was getting lost in the old one. I'm going to the kitchen now to make carrot/apple juice. Then I'll be back to join you. Don't know how long I will last, but at least this time I will start.
Lots of {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} to you.:)

This is interesting!

As for fasting one day a week, Mahatma Gandhi chose to do that after age 40. However, he also did periodic, prolonged fasts, following a 1930 fast he described as "21 days of uninterrupted prayer," during which he felt "an indescribable peace within," concluding: "There is no prayer without fasting!"

I can SOOOOO relate!

So much has been going on in my personal life - none of which I share online - and that has really made it difficult for me to get into that space of "love, light and fasting bliss" that I am soooooooooooo wanting for myself right now.

This should be the motivation TO fast! Honest! I'm going through a HELL of a lot right now, from having to move to my Mom having eye surgery and prior to all of THAT moving an entire HFS ourselves! But it did not and has not been stressful. I KNOW that if I were NOT fasting? It would have been awful.

So you KNOW that fasting would lessen the stress.

You can so do this!

love you girl!

Knowing and doing are sometimes two different things. But I keep trying because of what I know and deeply believe in.

I'm here... drinking water. I've drank 1 litre (as soon as my feet hit the floor like usual) and then I'll drink another when I pee each time till I hit 4 litres.

I have some 'love' tea beside me in my new cool mug from my dear friend Lucy (((hugs))) and my little saying says: "Sing from your heart" and honestly that's what I've been doing since I started this thread. Being honest and reaching out for help... knowing I need it... sharing with friends... I'm singing loud and clear.

I'm going to try water fasting for a few days... perhaps 5. But if I need juice I'll add it. Otherwise lots of detox tea, fasting tea and meditative tea (all from Lucy... and all "love" teas)...

I can do this!!!

*Emma I was feeling lost in that thread as well and a new thread always gives me a little kick start... and I sooooo need that*

Hey all I am so glad others are beginning their fast today too. Thanks Aleesha for starting the thread. I had planned on doing this fast since the last one I did back in January/February. I had planned this fast for celebrating 40 years on this earth so I could feel and look my best when I turn 40 next month (kind of a mental thing). My birthday is mid May so I here I am. Funny how God works these things out ahead of time. I too am in one of the most stressful times of my life and so Aleesha I can really relate with you. So this fast for me will be about so much more than it was originally intended for. I am hoping to find/experience God's peace, refuge, and strength in a huge way. Also I know fasting will help so I don't turn to stress eating as life gets tougher.

Another cool thing is my husband and I are going to a Prom together on May the 8th. It is an event that our church is putting on through "Married Life Live." They thought it would be fun since most married couples never went to prom together. It will be a dinner/dance night. I hated to pay for the dinner since I know I won't be eating but hopefully it will be a fun night out for my husband and I. I already have the dress to wear so I can't wait to finally have an event to wear it to. I want to look fabulous in that dress!

I just got done with my exercising for the day and feel great. With the kids being off school this week it truely was a great week to start.

Peace and LOVE to you All! And may each of you experience all that you desire during this fast. That is my prayer!:)

Hi, I am just now finished with my 30 day challenge and have decided to do a smoothie fast for as long as I can, without expectations. I have read all the replys to your post also. I hope you get what you want out of your fast. I am not sure what to expect from mine. I have two friends so far on this site who really helped with my 30 day raw food challenge. They have together decided to do this smoothie fast, but I am committing to doing mine with NO CHEWING. What can I expect in the first few days?

I don't know you well, but I sympathize with your need for a hug. (((((HUG)))))) God bless you and I hope you get what you want out of what you are doing.

I managed to make carrot juice, yipee. No more carrot juice (mental) block. So far so good, but I think I will add a whole lot of water. So far I've had a green smoothie today (I have to get rid of some bananas and salad greens) and carrot apple juice, both with plenty of water. I know I should drink lots of water in between to flush out the system. Sure helps to know I have friends out there who are fasting as well. Somehow, that makes it much easier to stick it out. It's all about commitment.

Aleesha Sattva
04-13-2009, 08:59 PM
it is all about commitment but it's also about taking care of our needs.

i cancelled my meditation group for tonight as i'm too emotionally exhausted and a detox headache isn't helping.

just water today. two cups of love tea and a tsp of honey (raw)...

off to bed soon... as i'm exhausted.

Anastazia
04-13-2009, 11:22 PM
Well, I made it through most of the day, but only had 4 hours sleep again last night (2 nites in a row) & am barely functioning, so I couldn't take the headache after a few hours, & caved to some light broth & some apple, which instantly helped me get thru the rest of the looooong busy day I was facing, but am right on board for tomorrow again...

...in the past I've found I've sometimes had to ease into it for a day or two & because of starting out exhausted, this has definately been one of those times...but I'm eager to get up early & start again...

Sorry 'bout that, Aleesha! I'll be fully on board tomorrow!
& I need to go get me some detox love tea, too!

...& thanks 4 setting such a great example!

Started the day off with a re-attunement (Reiki) and a lovely bath... I'm having a nice load of detoxing in this moment...

I've drank my first litre of water, have my next one beside me and some more detox "love" tea... *I love Lucy*

I'm going to take it easy today as I have a raw food client this afternoon... I want to be fully available for her and so I may or may not go to yoga this morning... I'm taking it moment by moment.

Still on water... which is pleasing me. Still hoping to do water only for the first 5 days. Today is day two.

I'm going to mention this now... not that anyone has done this yet... but try to keep the discussion of food to a minimum please. When we are fasting we need a safe place to read and post where we are not reading about eating or food. So if you decide to eat something, just say you ate something... we don't need to know what you ate. ;) Reading about what you ate can cause a craving in another faster and we don't want that.

(((hugs))) all around this morning. I hope you day is juicey or watery and (if you want) heavy on the detox!!!

Veganforlife

Good point Aleesha - VERY good point about keeping the food chatter to a minimum!

I am on I don't know what day...over 70 - 72 days I believe it is. Folks, it's incredible. I've got some weird stuff happening in my life - oh like my landlord of five years decides to sell the house - asks me if I wanna buy it and I say yes, only to find out I can't afford it! YIKES. So I've been house hunting and realizing how horribly poor I am and the type of house I can only afford - but I will make this work. My Mom had eye surgery and that worries me because she's soon to be 85, but she did fine. Working two jobs, shuffling 3 dogs and just plain life.

The reason I'm saying this is because had I NOT been fasting? I wouldn't have been able to deal with this. My life is super, SUPER hectic and frustrating and a bit of a downer, BUT it isn't. Does this make sense? I am calm. This sense of serenity is so nice right now. I know my being is guiding me through this. I know those that have crossed over are helping me deal with all of this. I know that fasting is what is right for me now.

If any of you are struggling through days with headaches and the ugh of starting a fast as Aleesha told me, "...just get through the first couple of days. By day three you will feel GR8!" Which I did. I woke up on day three and have felt wonderful ever since.

AND what is very cool is that folks that come into the HFS and gets tons of veggies - I'll look at them and say, you're juicing right? And they ARE and we connect. It's very cool!

I so love this and wish everyone success on their journey with this. THIS is a wonderful compliment to the Raw lifestyle. I recommend EVERYone to try fasting and see if it doesn't change your spiritual well-being as well as your physical well-being.

Love and (((hugs))) to all!!!

Ah, so many words of wisdom. Good morning fellow fasters. It's going to be lots of water today and a little bit of juice. So far I'm feeling great, despite my ongoing headache and body aches. I put a teaspoon of vitamin C in every cup of water. I hope that will cure whatever ails me.
I can feel that this time it was a decision (to fast) backed by commitment. It does make a difference. Decisions without commitment lead to failure. I should write that down somewhere and read it every time I have to make a decision. I feel like Edison, thousands of failures before success. :D

Aleesha Sattva
04-14-2009, 11:03 AM
Rather than adding a processed version of vitamin c... why not simply juice an orange and drink that? Or add it to your water?

So... are you fasting? Did you make the commitment? Have you chosen how long you'll fast? *I'll go back and read this thread to see if you already did and I'm asking redundant questions LOL*

Ilse W.
04-14-2009, 11:23 AM
I am fasting. How long? I don't know. I like open ended fasts. I would feel I failed, if I quit after 45 days but had wanted to last 47. I let my eyes be my guide. They will tell me when I've fasted enough. Right now my right eye is full of "brown spaghetti" again. It will clear as I get clean. Also, this time I will not do an extended water fast. Only water really kicked my butt last time. I could barely drag myself around the house. I will just incorporate lots of water into my juicy day. You are my inspiration (as always). I will follow your lead: 1 glass of water after every pee. :D

Aleesha Sattva
04-14-2009, 11:28 AM
to a max of 4 litres or 4 quarts. don't overdo the water :) and yes... water only is very hard on the body and life for most people. i like to incorporate a day of water here and there but stick with at least one litre of juice per day. i find that gives me way more energy to get things done!!!

i guess i'm not going to yoga today. i just looked at the time and i should have left 15 minutes ago. that's okay... i'm working on the magazine. we go online today!!!

i just posted my tomato juice/soup in lucy's cilantro thread... thought i'd copy it here as well! this is normally a staple of my fast. this is dinner everynight!

6 vine ripened tomatoes
1 small clove of garlic
a good chunk of ginger
kelp powder, cayenne pepper, smoked sea salt and curry powder

use a wisk to incorporate all the powdered spices and eat with a spoon. great while fasting to give you that "i'm eating" feeling.

of course adding cilantro or parsley to this is lovely!!! when i get my greenstar i'll be adding a few other greens as well (kale, spinach)

Day 2 of my fast and thinking about what I want to juice up. I do have a few small tomatoes in the bottom of my bin, a few stalks of celery, some cilantro, ginger, beet, etc. So I think I will make up a v-8 type concoction.

The stress today is also very high as we are contemplating major decisions in our lives right now. I am so glad I am fasting to help me get through it all.

I feel pretty relaxed physically as I just finished an hour of my yoga, bootie ballet tape.

Veganforlife - it sounds like you have had your share of stresses lately. I will pray that God opens up a good housing situation for you. And Wow Day 72 I am amazed!

Hi~
I'm still here, {thanks Morn! You're right the first few days are definately the hardest!}
I was intending to do water only for ten days, then ten days 100% raw, but I think that I'll do these first ten days, at least, with juicing at least some of the time (at least for the first few days!)

Congrats on your magazine, Aleesha, I'll be off to check it out in a minute!

& Veganforlife, is that 72 days of juicing? WOw, I bet the changes have been astounding!
{I'll come check out your blog in a minute, too!}

Hey, I have a question....with doing juice fasting, do I need to do what they're calling 'Juice feasting', meaning have a LOT, (you said AT LEAST 1 liter) or could I just do it with less, according to what I feel my body wants?

{The main reason I'm asking cuz produce/$ is very limited for me right now...}

...I do still intend to do some of this on only water, (I actually found it very invigorating to just water fast, it never wiped me out in the past...though I'm not nearly as healthy now as I was then...) but I also want the benefits detox/rebuilding benefits of doing the juice...

...I appreciated the link you shared with me about hair, Aleesha! Thanks!
I wish they'd given more info on what they recommend specifically, though...
(I realize that they do, for a price, but that's not an option for me at this point...Oh, well, there's still lotsa good info there!)

So what are the best juice fasting & fasting sites you guys use that give actual recipes/amounts? Are there any?

Thanks, & it's nice to be sharing this with y'all!

Anastazia, the best thing you can do on a fast is follow your body. Read lots of threads here cause there's soooo much info in it.

A juice FEAST is one gallon of juice... anything less is a fast. One litre of juice is the same as one quart... it takes 4 quarts to make a gallon... so trust me one litre of juice is very little... but you can do less if that's what you want.

The benefits of juice feasting/fasting is way less than water fasting... so you are not adding benefits by adding in juice... you are actually reducing the benefits. Although if someone had a debilitating disease, I would recommend water only, then juice, then water, then juice (5 or 10 days of each) for an extended fast. But that's my opinion, doesn't make it right.

Honestly, adding less than a litre of juice... you might as well stick with water and gain all the benefits, esp since it's easy for you.

Did water again today... I don't know if I will/can tomorrow though as I work and since I'm caring for two little ones I have to be on the ball. I'll take juice with me and start with only water and only drink the juice if I feel I need to. I'll take it moment by moment.

Take care everyone!

Oh and Lucy has been green smoothie feasting... and she's doing AMAZZZZING!!!

This day has been fairly easy with some juice and water along with herbal teas. Got a lot of knitting done (am doing a summer top with lots of lace) and even mowed part of my huge yard. That kicked my butt after 45 minutes, but it felt good to be out in the sun. Tomorrow is day 3 already. I'll be going to California Thursday morning to see an optometrist friend and also spend time with other friends. I'll be there for a couple of days and at first I thought my timing for a fast is messed up. But I know from experience that it is much harder to find raw food in a restaurant than juice, although the juice might be pasteurized. My friends all understand about my fasts, since I've been "educating" them about cancer healing and prevention for years and they know I don't go to M.D.s, but do Natural Hygiene instead.

WOW. Amazing. AND the various cravings I am having lately. Between cilantro and garlic, I smell like an insane restaurant! LOL!

Plus, being aware of my body and "feeling" it. Feeling the strong muscles and bones and health inside.

My mental clarity is VERY sharp, from 5:30 in the morning when my feet hit the floor running, to 11:30 at nite, when I crash.

This is the most amazing life experience I have ever undertaken. It is a very spiritual experience. Has been from day 3.

Please all starting their fasts? Focus. FOCUS. FOCUS!

This is an important key. The first couple days were rough for me, but since day three - 70 days ago, I have felt like there isn't anything that I cannot venture out to do AND accomplish.

One thing I have not done and NEED to get into - as I'm feeling that now? Is working out. I have not worked out in weeks. Sure, I do steps lots of times a day, walk my fur babies 4-5 times a day, but a regiment workout program. Nope, but I WILL be getting into that soon. Probably tonite as I don't work.

Everyone Enjoy this amazing journey. It is truly life enhancing.

Human words cannot describe.

This is so true. You can also usually get herbal teas and water in restaurants as well :) I take my own freshly made juices to restaurants all the time. As long as whoever I'm with is ordering something, they don't care.

I'm switching to juices. My hubby and I talked about it last night and I just don't think it's wise for me to do water while looking after someone else's kids (and the little one has seizures)... I need to be on the ball and often I'm not when doing water. So I'll go back to water on Saturday :) After all, I'm fasting for the long haul here so I have plenty of time to do water on the days I'm not working (I only work 3 days a week).

So I'm off... later everyone!!!
I must say before I go... Lucy you are amazing. To know you before you did this feast... to hear what you had to say about fasting *giggling* and to see you now... what a treat this is for me!!! I love seeing you 'get' what I 'get'.

What Aleesha is referring to is I used to bad-mouth fasting. Saying it wasn't right or natural and (my personal fav) too drastic. WHAT WAS I THINKING ::said in her best Dr. Phil voice::

I wasn't thinking. I didn't give it a chance. To me the first two days were the hardest. To someone else it may be the first week. But it DOES get better. Better and BETTER.

I didn't know what I spoke of. I imagine all fasting varies with everyBODY, because everyBODY is different.

I don't want to stop - not yet. Why stop a good thing. I've had folks say, "Oh, fasting that long can't be good..." Um, hello? Look at me. Watch me. See my energy. And that is not good how?

I am consuming waaaay more foods then when eating Raw, only in a different form. A form that my body assimilates quickly and uses ALL of.

I so love this.

I so love Aleesha for her support.:p

"I so love Aleesha for her support.:p"

ME TOO, ME TOO!

It is really amazing how easy it was this time to get back into fasting. As I said before, it's a little difficult to get to the point where I can say "Now is the time to start a new fast", but once decided I just do it without cravings or hunger pangs or much thought about food.
In 2 days I already released 7 pounds of (probably mostly water) weight, which makes me very happy. Half my mental troubles lately were related to the regaining of close to 20 pounds after discontinuing the last fast. I know better this time...it's all in how a long fast is broken. Do it too fast and you will run headlong into trouble. Should have paid more attention to my friend Aleesha!:o

So what does a typical day's consumption look like for you? You are doing a smoothie FEAST - is that correct?

So what does a typical day's consumption look like for you? You are doing a smoothie FEAST - is that correct?

I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just doing it.

I have warm teas - Yogi Fasting Tea mainly. I have green smoothies - like today is freshly juiced collard greens, zuchinni, butternut squash, garlic, red bell pepper, sun fire salt, a bit of nutritional yeast, flax seed oil. I also drink Kombucha tea and fresh juiced fruit juices. Today is apple, oranges and red bell peppers.

Each day is different.

Lately I've been craving tomatoes, water, avocado, cilantro, garlic, red bell pepper, nutritional yeast, flax seed oil, Sun Fire Salt. Can't get enough of that.

Into each of my green or non-fruit juices, I do use dulce, kelp, spirulina and blue/green algae for my thyroid to function well.

I drink water too.

Some days I drink lots more than others.

OH - I also like water, avocado and bananas! VERY good.

The other night I did a red bell pepper and banana (and water). REALLY good!

Whatever my body is craving...I listen to me and I LIKE me ;)

variety is the spice of life and you are certainly doing just that lucy!!! i'm so thrilled to see you being so creative with your smoothies. i personally think that's part of the reason you are being so successful.

that said, i am very much into a couple of different juices and that's it. today is cranberry/apple/ginger and cantaloupe/ginger - once i get my greenstar i'll be adding greens to most of my juices just because i can LOL

i have a bunch of pineapples in the fridge waiting to be juiced... i'm waiting for my greenstar to arrive though so i can try them out on it. i have a box of cantaloupes and a whack of young coconuts as well. so i'm totally set. oh and of course, tomatoes... vine ripened mm mmm goood.

i just had my first juice... been doing water all morning - went for a 2.5 hr walk and when i got home... i needed some juice in me. so while i made lunch for the kids i defrosted some juice for me. i'm watering it down a lot... but enjoying it immensely.

and... i'm happy to be here... inspiring, assisting, sharing... cause trust me... i get back waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more from you all than i give!!!

Another thing I have found is keeping busy. I mean REALLY keeping busy. I don't dwell on eating. I eat (drink) and that's it. I don't crave anything, I don't long for anything. Smells don't affect me. I guess I'm beyond that...I don't know...

Day 3 of my fast and I am feeling better today. Yesterday I had such a headache and I am not sure why since I had some greentea. I just got done juicing some Apple, carrot, beet and spinach juice so I am enjoying that while watching my favorite show of lost. I also squeezed in some exercise - 30 minutes of taebo.

Lucy your variations sound very creative. I never would have thought about combining a lot of the things you mentioned.

I just got volunteered to go to camp with the Girl Guides in my daughter's troop. LOL I'll be going Friday evening (May 1st)... all day Sat and then home by lunch on Sunday. So.... I'm going to find out if they'll let me bring some juices for Sat otherwise I'll do water that day. Cause this mama is NOT breaking her fast!!! Nope... not this time. I want to do an extended fast and nothing is going to stop me (well, yes I would stop if my kids needed me to, but she doesn't need me to eat at camp with her LOL)

I'm feeling GREAT tonight... and tomorrow is another beautiful day!!!

Thanks! Me neither. The flavors just come to me. It's my body requesting these combos. I had red bell pepper and bananas and water the other evening. VERY good AND very pretty too!

Then one day riding home from my Mom's I was thinking what I could whip up quick? I had avo's and bananas and made an amazing smoothie!

Congrads to everyone perservering and sticking with this. You all can SO do this. Hell! If I can ANYone can. Me? I was the biggest poo-poo'r of fasting. You can read some of my posts that state that.

I really think, sorry to repeat, but the key is keeping busy. Because when one is busy, they don't have time to think about the foods they could be eating.

I love the ease of a fast, don't you all? It's very simple to prepare foods. My dtr. Mom of five kids (4 boys and a girl) said she wished her family would fast. Prep and cleanup would be soooo easy!

Kudos to all my fast/feast/smoothie/water ppls!!!!

funny i'm the opposite often lucy. it's the slow, relaxed easy pace of my life that assists me to fast. the fact that i don't have to do anything in particular, i can just sit on the couch and meditate all day if i choose... that's what assists me so much. funny how different people have different motivation. it's all about finding what works for you and then being willing to experiment (like lucy is with her combos for example) to find out what works for you. after all, anyone can fast if they really want to... you just have to set your mind to it and then create the atmosphere you need to be successful.

for me, (in the beginning) that meant not having people prepare 'smell' yummy foods around me. so in that first 9 day fast... my family ate alot of easy to prepare non-smelling foods and if they wanted something that smelled... they went out to eat it. that REALLY assisted me with that first fast and helped me tremendously to be successful. i was very overweight and very unhealthy back then (when i think back... wow i can't believe that was me)... and now, they can cook anything and i'm okay. if needed, i pop into the bathtub for a bit... nothing major. sit in my room and meditate...

;) and even my biggest challenges (eating events out) are seeming easier with each one i go to and stick to my fast. i'm actually looking forward to this camping experience with my daughter... to gift myself the opportunity to stay on my fast in this situation will be a HUGE gift to my soul. (((hugs)))

well i'm off to work. the little one i care for has a fever today so lots of cuddling on the couch for us. i'm taking some movies to entertain us for the day.

take care everyone... happy fasting!!!

hey, has anyone pooped?

Hi all! I am new here and on the third and final day of a 3-day juice fast.

My fasting history: I haven't fasted in about 3-4 years, when I did a 3-day fast and then a few months later the Master Cleanse. I did like the Master Cleanse -- what an intense experience -- but I got pretty sick coming off it when I reintroduced food (despite slowly easing into it) and then when I recovered from being sick I could not stop eating! All those happy, healthy thoughts of raw foods that I had during the fast were quickly replaced with carbs and cooked food and sugar once I was finally healthy enough to eat "normally." I was actually out-of-control eating for a while. So my negative reaction after the fast has put me off doing such a long one again. I have also done a 24-hour water fast, which I know to some of you must seem easy, but to me it was super hard!

And now on to my current fast: This is the first time I've fasted while owning a Green Star juicer and it's awesome! I'm drinking about 4 glasses of fresh juice a day (carrot/apple, kale/beet/carrot/spinach, celery/carrot/lettuce/apple, etc.). I am supplementing that during the workday with some of the Master Cleanse lemonade/maple syrup drink. I assume this is okay?

I'm also having the occasional cup of of herbal tea, though I think I've had two cups of caffeinated tea -- once when I started drinking green tea and forgot it has some caffeine, and once at a friend's house when she made me tea and I realized it probably had caffeine. But I am not seeking out perfection, here -- I just want to jump start some healthier living and flood my body with pure, organic juice for three days.

How it's been going: The first day was tough. Tough as in I almost quit, which was bad because the other times I fasted I don't think I came close to quitting on the first day! It was in the evening, after work, when I literally felt too tired to make my juice and so fell asleep on the couch. When I woke I felt shaky, sick, anxious. I wanted to eat a banana so bad! But then my husband came home and made some green juice for me and I felt so much better. He doesn't "get" the fasting thing at all, and I suspect part of him thinks I'm nuts, but at least he is supportive.

Yesterday, Day 2, was easier. I didn't feel weak/weird in the evening and by the end of the night wasn't feeling hunger or cravings at all. Sometimes I forgot I was fasting or even worried I'd forget about it and accidentally eat something!

Today is even better, so far. I am not hungry (though I love and look forward to my juice) and am shocked by how quickly I seem to have accepted this fast. I remember Day 3 on the Master Cleanse being one of the toughest days, but in this short juice fast it's fine. Maybe because I know it's almost over?

So anyway, here I am. I've read through some of your posts and visited a few of your blogs. Reading about other people fasting sometimes makes me feel like I'm not doing enough with just a 3-day fast, which I know is not the right attitude to have. But right now this is all I feel prepared for. I am considering trying a 3-day fast once a month, or waiting a little longer and doing a 5-day juice fast.

Hello to everyone, and happy fasting!

But I did get in my exercising and I need to think about doing some juice of some kind. I have been drinking 1 large glass of juice a day (not a lot I know) but just enough to give me some energy.

tomorrow i may do water all day again, we'll take it moment by moment again :) i found today that a little honey in my tea was more than enough to sustain me.

the fasting "cold" has arrived. i'm freezing once again. had to wear my long underwear to bed last night i could NOT warm up not matter how many blankets i put on - and today... i lived on tea cause i was sooooooo cold even with two layers of clothes on all day and it was a hot day out today. :P

As I see my schedule picking up next week I am thinking I might go over to the MC lemonade for conveniece sake. I am so ticked because I usually get my 100% maple syrup at Costco and they don't carry it any longer by me. So I went to 3 other stores and finally I found it at Meijers for the same price but 1/2 the amount. I am so bummed! I hope Costco starts carrying it again.

Costwise I can buy a lot of produce for what I paid for that syrup so I really debated about it.

I'm back from my San Jose/Bay Area trip. Nothing can be done for my eyesight until I get cataracts removed, that developed because of the steroid drops my last eye doctor insisted I use.
It was very easy staying on my fast. I bought bottles of flash pasteurized Green Juice at Trader Joe's. It's the next best thing to fresh. That plus bottles of water kept me going Wednesday evening through last night. This morning I went right back to a banana/apple/dandelion leaf smoothie and this afternoon I had a carrot/celery savory smoothie. Lots of herbal tea and water in between. On the scale I'm already almost 10 pounds lighter in just 6 days. I love fasting, I feel better, lighter, sleep better, everything is just better on a fast.

Morn, why don't you just juice the hard stuff in the Breville and then put it in a blender with the spinach. It's going to be a little thicker, but I think that there are so many nutrients in spinach, it's a waste to toss most of the good stuff. It's still a fast. I used to own a Breville, and although it's extremely easy to use and I really liked it, I had a hard time with the softer stuff and leaves as well.

i think morn and i are the same. when we fast we like to allow our digestion to sleep and your digestion doesn't sleep when you are taking in fibre. a green smoothie feast is great... but not for allowing our digestion a rest.

WHen I am not fasting, I make smoothies instead and I do add my spinach, kale, etc. to my vitamix at 1/2 the amount. Now what I could do is use a strainer bag to get rid of the fiber/pulp so it is just juice but then I would have to do two extra steps and clean more appliances and I am not sure how much more yield I would really get for the effort.

Oh everyone, I am sooooooooo blown away by my Greenstar.

I just used it to juice up some watermelon. HOLY CRAP BATMAN!!! I can't believe how little pulp came out... how friggin' dry it was... my Champion has NEVER been able to make pulp that dry!!!

I'm soooooooooo sold on this Greenstar. AND I didn't have to open up the pulp spout at all... still at the same spot as when I did the greens. I'm soooo blown away. Soooo blown away!!!

So now I know it can do pineapple AND watermelon... next... cantaloupe!!! At this rate I'll be selling my Champion within the week!

I next need to get my head around next week with the kids going back to school. I need to pack lunches, my gym bag, etc.

Aleesha - so glad you like your new juicer. How much does a greenstar cost? I like my Breville juicer but I know it isn't as effective as it could be. I was hoping that someone would put one in a garage sale/thrift store someday and not know its real value.

I believe a new one in the states is around the $400+ mark (plus shipping)... up here in Canada it's more like $800 (scary eh?) - I totally scored on mine. $300 included shipping. It's lightly used and I know I'll have many many years of 'love juice' coming from this baby!!!

I simply cannot get over how much juice it yields. I'm blown away. The pulp is so dry and the juice has soooooo much colour! I loooooved my Champion but now it seems like a 'pretend' juicer LOL - Weird how that happens, you get something that is such higher quality and all of a sudden what you have/had is all of a sudden 'less than'.

Now, I'm not saying don't buy a Champion. It's a GREAT machine... it's just the Greenstar is in a whole new level of juicing is all. Had I known - what I know now - when I bought my Champion... I would have paid $800 for a Greenstar. My health is worth it... of course the fact that I juice fast soooooooo much is a big part of that. If I was just juicing here and there and fasting occassionally... my Champion would be more than sufficient.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood Morning everyone!!!

I've pooped this morning and I'm ready to juice. *giggling* I have a very busy day ahead... and I pretty much didn't sleep last night... and I'm ready for a wonderful juicy day!!!

I just checked... wow I've been fasting one week *shocked face*... feels like so much longer than that. *giggling*

Did I mention I love my Greenstar?

Day 8 of my fast and feeling fine. A rainy/grey day today and not a lot of fun. Today I am doing Master Cleanse Limeaide just because it is easy. Consumed:

Mastercleanse limeaide
Water

Aleesha I am so glad you love your machine! I can't believe it has been a week either.

Do you feel like that as well Morn? That when you start fasting... sometimes within hours I feel like I've been fasting for a month or longer. It's like the 'extended fast' just kicks in immediately.

I'm going to juice me up some cantaloupe!!!

Aleesha Sattva
04-20-2009, 01:04 PM
Greenstar update:

Just made some cantaloupe, parsley, spinach, celery, ginger juice. The cantaloupe required patience and what I ended up doing - which works amazingly well - was I added the pulp back in - since it was kinda soupy and backing up a little at the end... and it worked through and cleared the chamber beautifully... AND the pulp came out pretty dry. Not AS dry as the other times... but still way drier than my Champion ever did.

The thing that is blowing me away is how little pulp there is in the end. Very very little... so compact and so dry. And yet... no pulp in my juice. I'm super duper pleased!!! (yummy juice by the way)

I love the energy on this thread - it makes me want to juice! I am doing a Master Cleanse right now, am on day two and am hanging on until that calm sets in on day 4! Right now I am agitated and keep thinking I forgot something.. oh, right, I am not eating. That is what I keep forgetting to do.
I am planning at least 21 days- if not more.. like maybe 30-35 days. I am not sure and will let my body tell me. it always knows.

I agree Aleesha. I feel like I have been fasting for far more than a week.

Last Friday my husband lost his paying position at work and I too am not working. He will get a few weeks of severance pay but we are not eligilble for unemployment because this was a contract position. The stess of this is taking a toll on me. With the economy the way it is - this is not a good time to be looking for work (especially in the Automotive capital of Detroit). We have a lot of things to sort out and I know that God is near to me but if I appear to be less than my normal self it is just the situations I am finding myself in. It is a scary time for me. I do know that God is faithful though and I am hanging in. This is why I am glad to be fasting right now. I think due to all the stress and my past I would be eating myself to death right now.

Poop? Well, it is normally a favorite subject of mine. On the MC though it is actually what they call 'butt-pee' and is rarely a problem... it happens several times daily at least. Liquid in, liquid out!

I read your whole review of the Greenstar and that is a huge rave and may convince me to invest. I don't have a juicer right now, but that one looks really, really valuable.

I also am checking out your magazine! Gorgeous!

Morn, I am sorry to hear about the job situation. And yes, if not fasting you MIGHT revert to your old old habits.. but you have come so far, made so many changes.. it might not derail you as you fear. I love your website and have often gone there for inspiration - your photos are just so wonderful. As are Aleesha's. I am surrounded by Goddesses!

I managed a short walk and that both heated me up and energized me. I feel downright perky! I am drinking another lemonade. I am doing this. And I am so glad to have such good company.

P.S. - LN is Ellen... get it?? L N! My sister is envious that my name can be two letters.. hers can't!

Hello
I've been lurking on this site for the past 3 months or so while I have transitioning form sad to raw. I finally decided to do a fast and have been reading many backs threads on this post to learn everything I could. I wanted to thank everyone that submits their thought/ideas/experiences/ as they have been immensely helpful.
I am on day 2 of juice/water fast and things are a little easier today. Last night I felt like I had a full on flu virus hit but I knew to hang in there and sure enought things are a little easier today.
I expected the biggest hurdle for me to be hunger. Suprisingly I am finding the biggest challenge to be the lack of energy. I feel so weak and just dragging myself around. I'm wondering if there are any ideas to maintaining a fast while also raising kids and working part time (at a mall surrounded by crap food).

well LN... it's a pleasure to be walking this path with you at this moment!

morn... i am giddy over this new toy... and it gives me such yummy concoctions! i just had a beet, tomato, ginger, parsley, spinach, cucumber, cilantro, celery (lots of celery) juice and although the tomato was a challenge for the greenstar... it was okay. i'll have to see how it does on just tomato... if it can't handle it... i'm not sure what i'll do *almost passes out* cause we all know i LIVE on tomato juice!!!

i gifted my champion to a friend today... and right now i'm having a little 'oh no fest' over this tomato tragedy... oh what to do... *pacing the floor*... i'll just have to figure something out!!! i can't live without my nightly tomato juice.

oh and by the way... my juice tonight was not yummy... i drank it but i didn't really like it much. oh and there was one carrot in it ( i don't like juiced carrots ) so that may have been it, but it was one little carrot so i doubt it. i think i'm just so used to mono juices and now i'm drinking these concoctions... oh well things will settle down as the excitement over this machine calms down LOL

i may have to ask for my champion back? *breathing... *

lisa... how much juice are you drinking? try to up it a bit... no less than 2 litres and closer to 4 litres (quart=litre) and see if that helps at all. welcome!!!

I'm discontinuing my fast for a couple of weeks. My daughter is taking a military hop from Germany to visit me. She is desperate to lose weight and get healthy (she is pre diabetic). She wants to be raw with me, and I think I can help her more by making different raw meals with her. I sent her Alissa's book a few months ago, but I don't think she's been able to stick to anything with all her usual distractions. I'll jump right back into fasting as soon as she goes back to Germany.

I am soooooooooo energized. Soooo energized. I'm feeling great. I got some lovely feedback about using my greenstar for tomatoes. I will get the other coarse screen so I can juice up those bad boys ;)

Other than that... I'm having a great day today. Off for a walk very soon to get some parsley and a few more green apples. Then I'll whip up an apple/parsley juice. Then I am taking my son to the skate shop in a nearby town to get some new wheels and then I have a phone conversation with one of my raw clients later this afternoon. All in all a beautiful sunny day to spend being juicy and warm. Ahhhh great combo!!!

Good morning. Just getting up and going here in Ca.
Day 3 of my fast and I feel really great this morning. I didn't expect to so its an added bonus! I am planning on increasing the amount of juice I drink today as I was really weak and having a hard time with things I really needed to do (work and kids). I also noticed that I'm not hungry at all this morning and am quite happy to drink my Green Giant Juice (kale, cucumber, apple, lemon, celery) from a raw recipe book. So good!
I'm somewhat confused about the juice fast and water fast. I had read threads that stated that water fasting was better and to try to keep juice to a minimum. But I guess I', not ready for that.
I hope everyone is off to a great day!

I am pouty today, for no reason that I can fathom. So, it is GREAT to read your posts Aleesha. So much positivity shared. I love it. And I send a blessing to that little dandelion. I love adding lemon to smoothies and juice... and ginger.

I am going for a walk myself and I am hoping that will get my energy moving. It is warm here today, but not as hot as yesterday. I prefer cool, breezes and fog, actually. I thrive in the coolth!

Hi Everyone!

I am starting tomorrow...really I am. Both of which I've said before...but I'm feeling pretty calm about the whole thing. I know I need to, I know it's time...

I'm going for a week on water....or atleast a few days to start, I will fold in GS if things get desparate or anything. But I'm aiming primarily for water for a week. Then I will do the GS thing...I don't have a juicer.

I'm looking to beeline it straight for this thread and steer clear of everything else basically. I am also going to be staying off the pc for the most part, because I'm in between semesters now and it tends to be a snack trigger for me...so finally the stars are all aligned, my life is in vacation mode right now...I'm feeling good about it, like really capable. I've got the mental game I think. Like looking Forward to the detox headache, the occasional naps, the lightness, etc...just the time out.

Waving to Bananna!! The calmness is always a clear indicator for me that I am serious this time!

I walked! 60 minutes and my injured hip issued no complaint, but my right knee really complained a lot and now it is sullen. I have a sullen knee. I got to wondering as I walked if this was the healing of an old injury. Often on fasts and cleanses I have experienced healing of old injuries and damage. I know I injured my knees in the long distant past practice of karate. shrug I am not sure about any more recent direct injuries... not since I did my 40 day MC in 2005 and both my knees felt like they were 25 again. I am going to do some EFT on it.
The EFT I did last night released lots of sadness. I felt so clean after it left, like after a spring rain. Maybe this knee is connected to the cleansing of the kidneys/sadness.

I am amazed that even the mentions of your veggies does nothing to me, although I can imagine how they look and smell. I am not hungry on day 3 - I think this is cause for a virtual happy dance. I honestly was expecting a horrible first 3 days, but aside from my knee I am having a great cleanse already!

I like the limeade, too, Morn!

My parents came over unexpectantly and had just driven 2 hours and were starving. My husband agrred to go pick up foood for them so I wouldn't have to cook, and I caved. :( The whole social thing with a ton of food was too much for me. Funny thing is, I didn't really want to eat, I wasn't hungry, I think I just wanted to feel like part of "the party" Does that sound strange. Ugh.

I feel for you, LisaO... It has happened to me. Drink lots of water now for sure.

I cannot believe how great I felt last night.. really wonderful - on day 3 - that never happened before. I am amazed. I enjoyed it. Each cleanse is it's own experience.

I loved re-reading Lucy's testimony and process... I am on the brink of understanding something essential to me being raw. I really am feeling how fast and loose I played with my health - which is the basis of my very life! And for so long. I never felt this responsibility before. I feel awed by the power. And my ignorance and naivete. And I could actually see in my mind the connection between food and the condition of my bones and muscles. I think I really got it that I am made up of what I put in my body. Mentally as well as physically. And I was totally raised to ignore the body's needs.

Not any more, not ever again.

LNdolls those are great thoughts. I have reread your thread 3-4 times. awesome.
I'm so glad that I started over with the fast this morning. I feel encouraged as I have made it through today and if I hadn't started again I would just be frustrated at myself for caving the other night.
I tried to start off my day consuming alot of water like Aleesha mentioned she does, 1 liter after each pee. Man, Aleesha, you must have a bionic bladder because I defintiely couldn't hang with that! But, I consumed as much as I could and then started adding juice around 2 pm when I started getting weak and foggy.
I drank mostly the Beet, spincah, apple, carrot juice today and I could swear my urine had a bit of a reddish tinge to it. Is this possibel? Has anyone else noticed this?

Thank you LisaO and thank you for your post, because I have been struggling tonight. Well, most of the day. Cranky, irritable, annoyed and wanting to just eat - already!!! And cold.. the fog is rolling back in and I am chilled, so wearing many layers.. which complicates the many trips to the loo.
You reminded me of my purpose in doing this. No matter how great last night was, I am still only on day 4 and the first 4 days are the roughest for me. I am taking a deep breath. Another. I can do this. I so very much want to do this and the detox is an indication of how beneficial this has been. How much of a break my body and soul have needed.

I am letting go of a lot of sadness. Waves of tears - for no specific reason. Thoughts that I am mad. Knowing that I am simply detoxing and this will pass and I will feel so much better after it does. That is key to comforting myself.. no matter how rough the detox may be - after it passes I feel better, much better than before.

*** I finally danced for 20 minutes - being very careful about my knee and hip.. and that blew the cobwebs out and I feel great. Off to bed!

Yikes! My pee was definitely red this morning. I was a little freaked out at first and then read here that can happen. I think I'm a little dehydrated also, so I'm planning on about 2 liters of water only until 1-2 pm and then 3 juices:
carrot/orange
kale/cucmber/celery/orange
spinach/grapes/pineapple
I've added quite a bit of water to the juices also so hopefully I will feel more hydrated tomorrow. I'm taking the juices with me to work and feel really confident that I can make it through the day. My work environment is a much more difficult place for me to stay committed but I did it yesterday and I can do it again today! Rah-Rah
I have been craving tomatoes so hubby is going to store and picking up more produce (grocery store is a no-go zone for me right now) and have tomato juice tonight.
I hope everyone has a great day.

morning everyone. yesterday i was babysitting sick kids... when my daughter called saying she was vomiting. so the kids mom had to come home from work so i could get home to my little one. within an hour or so i was sick as well. not a great night at all... but hey, we survived and are feeling much better this morning. i won't work today... taking it easy and fully recovering before going back.

i worked up to the litre of water... started with 1 litre first thing in the morning, then upped that to two and then added a litre after every pee. LOL sometimes i only do 1/2 a litre after a pee though... depending on my mood in that moment. :P it sure helps to keep the fluids moving though. cause sometimes i forget to drink when i'm fasting. i know that sounds totally bizarre but i do... so this helps me tremendously.

i'm going to start with 1/2 a litre today cause i don't know if my tummy could handle more than that. may even just take tiny sips... we'll see.

glad to see everyone is doing so well. it's all about getting yourself busy doing something ELSE when you start wanting food. go for a walk, have a bath, meditate, even watch a movie... rebounding etc.

and as for red pee... i've read that when your pee is red from beets it means your body isn't absorbing all the nutrients. so keep track as you fast, i imagine the red will diminish and leave. i have no red in my urine at all.

although i did have some red mucus surrounding my bowel movements yesterday and the day before...

First thing this morning I had some water, then i had lemon water and msm. After that i had cucumber, apple and grape juice. I thought that i had ginger at home but i must have used it all. It was a nice change to switch to the juices. Hope that everyone has a great day:D

i just made some ginger/apple/parsley juice. i'm sipping it very slowly. my body started craving apple so i took that a sign to go make myself some juice.

i wanted the healing of the greens (parsley) and the tummy gentleness of the ginger in there as well.

i have a headache but it's only mild.

Didn't mean to dissapear...

...it's been so wonderful to read about the daily processes you're all experiencing...
...It makes me so happy that I finally have a kitchen full of produce, & am easing into fasting again, today & maybe tomorrow 100% raw (have been about 80% raw for awhile) then will begin a juice feast, as long as the produce lasts, then get back on track with fasting...

..before, I could just jump right in & start, but with my health being so poor lately, it seems to detox me way too fast, & I can't function...so I've realized doing it gently is best for me right now...

...good to know about beets & pee...learn somethin' new every day!

Aleesha, I hope the apple juice is just what your body wants and you feel lots better. As well for your daughter, too.

I feel fantastic today. A short boogie bombed the detox blues right out of me with no damage or knee or hip.. and I woke up and weighed - I am 10 pounds less than the day I began this cleanse. Never has my body reacted so strongly to this cleanse. It likes it, yeah, but this is amazing to me. I am going for a walk now... then back to the SWF and more lemonades.

Day 11 of my fast and went to get a manicure/pedicure today (as a gift from a friend from church). Then I went to fellowship with my bible study group. They had a wonderful yummy salad with tons of toppings. It was torture to me since I was still trying to fast. I came home and juiced a V-8. Consumed:

MC Limeaide
Tomatoe, carrot, celery, green pepper, and beet juice

I made it through another day at work. Couldn't wait to get home and have some fresh tomato juice. It tastes loike the best thing on earth. I forgot how good tomoato juice can taste! Isn't that funny, this fasting is making me cukoo.
4 liters is an extreme amount of water to me but I got it down today. I was able to drink as much juice as I planned at work because I was so bloated from water. I felt a little dizzy by the end of the day i think because I probably needed the juice increased also. My bladder and kidneys sure got a worokout :) The aches are back a little right now too, but as soon as I get the kids fed I'm going to bed. My husband has agreed to put kids to bed. I feel a little guilty for feeding the kids quickie meals and definitely not playing with them as much this week. I have to keep reminding myself that its ok to take care of myself also and its only temporary.
Glad to hear everyone is doing so well, except Aleesha. Hope you feel better soon.

Its 5:30 am here but I'm out of bed (very early for me) because I've had such horrible dreams/nightmares about things happening to my kids. I don't even want to try to go back to sleep lest I have more dreams. I've read from others that dreams can be part of detox?
I'm definitely not as dehydrated this morning so maybe consuming all that water (4l) helped. My plan today is to drink 2-3 liters of water and up the amount of juice from yesterday, so hopefully I'll have a little more energy this afternoon.
Today is day 6 (except for the "caving in" on night 3) so I am feeling more confident and really happy about doing something so healthy for my body. It does bother me a little when I receive comments from others about fast/detox like- "the only weight you'll lose is water and it will all come right back". Thats the comment I hear the most. I find it so annoying. First of all I didn't weigh myself before I started and haven't weighed myself since. My goal is not too lose weight (although it'd be nice). I am doing this for my health and wellbeing and I feel a little frustrated when someone else doesn't understand that motivation and negates what I'm doing based on aesthertics alone. Others don't have to agree with this but I just don't want to hear their negativity. Oh, I must be grouchy from little sleep. I guess I need to chill out.
I'm going to get caught up on episode of Lost before kids awake. Maybe that would help me to dream about Sawyer (Josh Holloway)-now that would be a dream worthi fasting for. heh.

First of all... how can you be releasing water weight when you are only consuming water LOL That's such a joke. Your body is using your stored energy (aka fat) to survive right now... so trust me... you are NOT releasing water weight.

I love that you all share the good times, that's what this thread is about... sharing. All the times.

Aleesha, sorry to hear about your daughter being ill. It breaks my heart when little ones are sick and they don't understand whats going on and why they feel so icky :(
I felt so great today. I actually had a little hop in my step, so corny, but true! Right now I feel so great and focused. I have to remember how great I feel if I get to feeling worse later. This will surely motivate me.
I think it really helped to switch to tomato juice also. I was getting a little "tired" of those sweet juices.
I have been experiencing the "white tongue" which I have heard is a sign of detox but I have searching for info as to why the white tongue appears. Does anyone here know.
Thanks!

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Aleesha Sattva
04-24-2009, 05:23 PM
I have no idea why it appears, only that it does. When it clears... you are through that bit of detox. LOL Detox never really ends... the layers are just sometimes deeper to get to. That's what I've experienced.

My daughter is feeling 100% now. Which is lovely since it's a gorgeous day outside. We just got home from the park.

I have a new focus. I feel like I need a 'carrot' to assist me with staying focused on this fast, as I feel very unfocused. Last year it was weight release and health increase... but I have achieved both of those and so... staying on my fast has not been something I've been very good at this year.

So... since I have another tat I want to get done... I'm using that right now. I have to stay on course... no breaking my fast... until I get it done. If I break my fast before I get it done... I don't get it till I do another extended fast.

This should work cause I sooooooooooooo wanna get this tat done LOL Once I get the tat, if I want to continue fasting, I'll find another carrot for myself. LOL I'm sooooo "what do I get" oriented. My Guides do that to me all the time... give me a carrot to do what they want... so I figure I'll do it to myself and see how it works. *giggling*... so for now... my carrot is my next tat!!!

Poop talk!! I really pooped today. Amazing.. 5 days no food and I pooped.. not just the normal MC morning SWF clean out - actual poop. That does happen from time to time on the MC, but it kinda thrilled me. Another indication that my body loves and wants this so much.
I am also kinda amazed that I made it to day 6. I confess I want to stop. I want to eat.. well, I have thoughts about it today. A lot. So, yes, this cleansing fasting is a challenge, not easy and can be icky with detox, but I want it, my body wants it..
And I am really staying right here.. in this moment, this lemonade moment.
Eating will have it's time again, of that I am pretty sure.
Meanwhile I am in the calm groove of day 6.

Hello All,

I wrote a previous post about a rash on the fasting forum. Ok, I'm concerned now. I know the skin is the body's largest eliminatory organ, but this is something else! It has spread to pretty much my entire body including my itchy scalp. I've read a bit about rashes and detoxifying and this is nothing new or unusual but it is hard to deal with. Besides dealing with the emotional aspects of detoxifying that I feel like I passed with flying colors, now I feel like I'm spiraling to deal with the emotional aspect of this rash. ...the unsightliness of it, sensitivity of it, itchiness, skin integrity is pretty much a wrap, and not wanting to wear a simple skirt or short sleeved shirt.

I'm on day 43 of a fast and today plan on beginning a liver/gb cleanse so maybe that will help move things along. I had a colonic this past Monday. I went to the sauna (and will keep going) to move things along and will up the greens once the liver/gb cleanse is over. I def understand now how people stop a detox due to freaking out about some type of symptom. I don't even want clothes rubbing against this rash, especially my arms.

I could use some serious support here. I really wanna cry. :)

LNdolls
04-25-2009, 09:23 AM
Zuri, that sounds really rough. I can relate, my skin used to be the geiger counter of my toxic levels. I have done over 30 liver flushes and it still reflects my health - like most people. But, I don't get rashes anymore. I don't even get dry and itchy in the winter months as I did every year since I was a kid. I highly recommend liver flushing. I think you have hit on pay dirt with your fast this time. And it sounds like you are doing what is needed to speed the toxins on out. I would take epsom salt baths. And I might also get some bentonite to apply to my skin to help the detox along that way as well. I sure hope it feels better.

I am feeling rotten myself. Day six was short and not fun. I went to bed and now I want to go back there. I prolly will.

I wish I had some serious support to give to you Zuri. I've never had to deal with something like this and I can't even imagine what you are going though.

Are you drinking lots of water? That's the only other thing I can suggest cause it sounds like you are doing lots to detox your skin.

I'll do some research and get back to you... sending loving healing hugs your way in the meantime (((hugs)))

Aleesha Sattva

my concern is that is that the rash was there BEFORE you began fasting, this tells me this is NOT detox... i would go see a doctor - since obviously fasting has not healed it.

in the meantime i'd put some aloe vera on it and perhaps drink some aloe juice as well.

but time to see a doctor!

I hope that it gets better soon Zuri, I don't really know what to tell you as i've never had that, I did get a rash on my arms before but just my arms and then it went away after a few days, I just continued drinking water and lots of it when I had mine.

It is so nice and warm and sunny today, I lied in it for an hour and it was so nice to be able to do that again.:D So far today i'm sticking to water and tea but I think that i'll have juice tonight. It was my mom's birthday yesterday and a big group of us went to the spa to use the hot and cold pools, the steam room and the sauna. It was so nice and relaxing and I think was very helpful with detox. I'm feeling really good right now, hopefully i'll continue feeling like this for a while.

Aleesha, I hope that your daughter feels better soon.

Have a good day everyone:)

Thanks so much for all of your responses!

Your outing sounds lovely Janey. It's in the upper 80s here today, thank goodness. That is very interesting about what you said about liver flushes and rashes LNDolls. I am pretty sure I had/have a sluggish liver. I'm looking forward to this liver/gb flush. Definitey will incorporate epsom salt baths and the clay. I talked to a natural Dr. friend and he also suggested more sweating and to wait this out. He actually said, "It's something releasing that was deeply rooted." Then he jokingly said, "It's probably chicken fat too." :D I did used to eat chicken yrs. ago so that's a possiblity. I just think it's way more that happens when we fast in the physical and spirit realm. That's just how I feel.

Aleesha, yeah I think it's interesting that there was something that appeared on my legs the day before this detox began. I do think about that, although I will continue with the fast and not see a doctor. I just don't think I need to go that route. I could definitely be drinking more water. Thanks for the reminder; no more to eat or drink though after 2 today in preparation for that liver flush.

Thanks for the hugs, they're much appreciated! I guess a person's state of mind is key here as well. I could just say the heck with everybody else and just do me, wear me, and be me. :D

Thanks again!

I'm planning on breaking my fast today and will start by introducong solid foods of the juices I have been having. This is what I've read here, so hope thats best.
I'm very happy I got to day 7 but really feel like its time to stop. Fasting/cleansing has been an awesome expereince and strangely I can't wait to fast again! I sort of see it as a gift/blessing now. Weird.

Please let us know how the liver flush goes for you, Zuri. I hope it helps a lot. If this is your first it might not be dazzling in producing stones, but then again, you have been fasting and I always get stones out after an MC.

Day 7 this is for me. I showered and fussed with my hair.. sometimes good hair makes s difference in my mood.

janey, i sometimes go to the hot springs near me when i'm fasting. i love the hot detox i get. a neighbour who does massage etc has one of those infra-red saunas... so i sometimes go and do that as well. soooo nice when i'm fasting!

I spent today talking! Two sisters and almost 7 hours of talking. Of course about the cleanse, but lots of other things, too. I love talking with them. There is a third sister, too! She is coming for a visit soon.
I just had another warm lemonade. I have not had as much desire for lemonades.. and my energy for chat was pretty high (I was sitting down or lying down through it all). It also helped my mood enormously - both are very supportive and one is considering her own raw lifestyle change!
I shall continue to remind myself of why I am doing this, how great the results of each MC has been and how ready I am to go 100% raw again after this.
Not bad for a day that began not so great.

I hope your kids feel better Aleesha.

I just wanted to check in about the liver flush like I said I would. I finished the last Epsom salt drink about two hrs ago and am still releasing what looks to me like the stones or those little round thingies (green to tan to beige looking). I only saw two or so that looked really like the ones I've seen online in pics (they were larger in diameter). Most of mine looked like Grape Nuts the cereal. *laughing So, if those are it, and I think they are, I've released A LOT of those. I'm kinda wiped out now. The rash is still doing its thing but to me, seems less active and itchy though still highly unsightly and itchy.

It went from being in the 30s-40s in the mornings here up to about 50-60 here in Baltimore and today it is 93. What the heck?! So, I don't wanna turn on the AC, but I'm on the third level of an apt and it's a bit hot for me and my cats. Anyway, I said that because I need to sweat. OK, have a great Sunday all!

Zuri, That is fantastic! What great results you got. I had lots of tiny stones the fist flush, too... after I had done my first MC. It was not until my 3rd and 4th flush that I got what I called boulders. But, even so, I felt a huge difference in my digestion and well being after my first liver flush. You did great. You can eat/drink apples to continue to shrink and loosen stones and naturally prepare for your next flush - they advise waiting 2 weeks between flushes.

I slept most of today, making up for not enough sleep between day 6 & 7 I think, plus extra for healing. I got up today did the SWF and drank a quart of water and went back to bed. I need more lemons so will be hiking to the HFS and home. it is beautiful outside, clear, bright and breezy.

ah no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed... or anything else... especially GUILT! there's no room for such things on a fast. fill your mind and heart with love... cause that's the most healing space you can be in!!!

my kids are famous for their 'rebound' back into illness... which is why i'm cautious to just call it over LOL but hey, isn't that what being a mom is all about? being there when needed. (((hugs)))

that tomato soup i made last night with my greenstar was, by far the absolutely best tomato soup i've ever made... which is huge when you consider just how much i drink it (daily)... i'm super impressed with my greenstar... just can't get over how amazing it is. i highly recommend this machine to everyone who is serious about juicing.

okay, i'm off to get my water into me... very important thing to do first thing in the morning...

oh and i pooped yesterday!!! yippppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I hiked to the HFS and back again today... I walked faster without trying and my hip and knee complained less. I am down on the scale, too. I know that helps the knee and hip. It is so breezy out.. I LOVE the wind.

I think I may have posted here once before I can't remember...
Anyways the last few months I have been doing short fast/liquid cleanse 2-3 days once a month however I have never broken them properly and was never that serious about it.
This time however I am and it is starting right now for me this month. I am hoping for it to go longer then 4 days. Aiming for 7. And I definitely will be breaking it properly since it will be a longer one.
I am hoping to post and chat with others who are fasting right now as well to help motivate and for support.

84 Days is a very long time ! were you doing a juice feast Aleesha?

Aleesha Sattva
04-28-2009, 09:31 AM
it was mixed... i did 15 days of water near the end... which is probably what forced my hand at ending the fast to be honest. when i was doing water i felt great and then i hit a wall... and fasting in itself became very difficult to do. i'll remember that for future fasts and not do such an extended water fast that late into my fast. i thought it would be a good thing... but alas, it wasn't (for me in that moment).

welcome sar... :)

i'm dressed and ready for yoga. really looking forward to another class. i feel so empowered after getting through last night... :) very empowered indeed!

Day 10 and I am really cold. Tried tea, more socks and sweaters and a walk... still cold. Other than that I am really fine.

I never lasted more than 4 days on just water. I really did not like the weakness I felt. Juices make the difference for me. Although 84 days sounds beyond my reach right now. grin

I can go one day of only water but thats about it.. I start go loopy after 1 day :p
Today I had tons of water and lots of grapefruit juice!
Can't wait for tomorrow because I have lots of ripe tomatoes that need to be juiced! I'm going to make Aleesha's tomato juice/soup!!! I have been craving tomatoes like crazy lately I just can't get enough of them :)
Its been so hot out today I find it a lot easier fasting/cleansing when its really nice out.
Anyone else feel the same?

Aleesha Sattva
04-28-2009, 09:36 PM
and remember... when you drink tomato juice/soup daily... you don't need sunscreen (unless you are out in the sun for hours)... as it's a natural sun screen!!! i didn't burn once last year... spent every nice day at the beach (not in the direct sun the entire time but i was in the sun at times... for walks etc).

rawsar, i'm certainly a lot warmer when i'm fasting when it's warm out which is a huge benefit. although to be honest... i love the coolness of my body when i'm fasting. i find my body so 'too warm' when i eat now. ;)

dr. oz also says that if you take in tomato (paste) daily it assists with natural sun screen. i found the same results... before i ever heard his thoughts on it.

Okay, Aleesha, here I am :)

I'm starting a 10 day green smoothie feast. I brought five green smoothies with me today because I will not be home until 8:00 this evening. I figured better safe than sorry. I've already had one. This is my morning routine, so I'm good so far. I have given myself a headache from being so anxious about this, but I'm hoping it will go away soon.

I have a hair appointment tonight....can't wait to see what my hair dresser thinks of my green smoothie. I need to bring it with me to sip on, since they usually offer drinks and treats there

Have a great day everyone!
Leah

i take a green smoothie or juice with me to my hairdressers all the time... they ALL ask questions and i make sure i put on that super 'confident' face when i answers their questions. in the end... they usually just say "well i wouldn't drink it but good for you" and then the subject changes.

i'm soooooooo proud of you leah and i just know how great you are going to be feeling next weekend when you see your mom! (((hugs))) did you see that 'red smoothie' thread?

i woke up so early this morning. before 6 and considering i need to get up just before 7 for work... that IS early for me. i was going to make juices for today but realized i'm out of parsley - i wanted apple/parsley/ginger... so instead i grabbed two juices from the freezer. i think i have watermelon and an apple/parsley/ginger but i never really know till i'm drinking them what they are. it's like a nickel grab bag. (we got them as kids... in a brown paper bag, never knew what you were getting till you opened it)

i'm taking my computer to work with me today cause i have so much to get done on the magazine... and the kids there are still sick so we won't be going out anywhere.

looks like a gorgeous day out there folks... have a great juicy day!!!

in light,

I can't imagine what your going through ! I hope that rash clears up for you soon!!

LNdolls
04-29-2009, 10:41 PM
Oh, Zuri, the rash looks very uncomfortable. I sympathize. And I am not surprised that it got worse right after the flush.. you loosened a ton of toxins and some are still coming out your skin. I hope it calms down fast.

You can take less epsom salts while raw and a lot less while fasting. I am sorry I did not think to mention that. I did a flush while 100% raw with only 1 T of epsom salt after not eating for 4 hours and then 2 hours later drinking the matching amounts of raw grapefruit juice (suddenly my mouth is watering just from writing that) and olive oil. It worked most efficiently.

I hope you will drink lots of apple juice or take malic acid caps for a couple weeks and flush again. 2 weeks between flushes is advised to allow the body to acclimate to the new situation inside.

BTW - BRAVO!!! Most folks are terrified of doing the liver flush, and you did it!

Update on me... I began day 11 with a hike to the HFS for more lemons and maple syrup and my hip and knee only complained a little on the way home. I feel pretty terrific indeed. Energy is high as are my spirits.

And I am now really looking forward to doing a liver flush myself after this cleanse. the sound of my hands rubbing together

I missed your post the first time, Lucy.. Congratulations on day 87! Whew!!

P.S. I got to thinking because of Aleesha's question and your 87 days.. I checked the calendar and I could go a lot longer... I could fit it in, as I intend to eat simply raw afterwards. I feel inspired tonight. I will consider this further and consult with my body. Might not make the decision anytime soon.. after all I do intend at least another 10 days. ** After more thought I am going to trust my intuition that said and says 21 days is perfect this time.

I've been on and off this board since I went off raw two years ago and I have been struggling like you can't believe to get back on raw.

I've been on and off raw to no avail. I've tried doing the MC but that just makes me gag, I can't stand the lemonade.

Anyway, I currently have this obsession with doing a water fast. So here I am finding this thread and thought I'd pop in for some support and/or advice.

I think to start with I'd like to aim for 7-10 then follow up with raw. That should get me back on raw I would think. Anything I should know specifically about doing a water fast? Is it as simple as intake nothing but water? Is there such a thing as having too much water in a day? Will I be too weak to work? Will it be tough the first couple of days then get better with time?

Sorry for so many questions and if I'm posting this in the wrong thread let me know.

I'm just sick and tired of struggling and I don't know why I am. When I was raw two years ago I felt fantastic and lost 35 lbs now I'm just on a back and forth struggle and I've gained back the 35lbs plus another 25lbs for extra measure. It's disgusting!!!!!!!!

I hope to find support and helpful tips here.

Love and light,
Michele

welcome and greetings michele,

there is lots of info on water fasting on the web... but in a nutshell... yes you just drink water, at minimum 2 litres and try to keep it at about the 4 litre mark *unless you live in a dry or hot climate and then increase this amount* daily. (1 litre = 1 quart)

different people experience fasts differently and quite honestly, from my experience, every fast is different. some days i am feeling so good and then WHAM like a truck... i feel like crap. so you can't think... oh today is a good day for xyz. instead you take it moment by moment, listen to your body and be kind and gentle with yourself.

but i've had a rare few times that i couldn't function while fasting. ;)

hope that kinda sorta helps ya.

as for me... i'm defrosting some apple/parsley/ginger juice as i type and i'm looking forward to enjoying it. i think i may even run out to the juice bar today and treat myself to a litre of orange juice. mmmm i am sooooooooooo in love with juice.

hey morn... happy fasting!!!

well our sleeping gear is all ready to go. tomorrow we'll get the rest packed up and off we go to camp for the weekend. i'll be taking about 4 litres of juice with me. should be enough for saturday. ;) i'm thinking of just making a bunch of apple/parsley/ginger juice since that's my current fav. we'll see how the parsley looks at the local market tomorrow though. if it doesn't look good, i'll do something different.

Hi Everyone,

I'm on day 3 of green smoothie fast with juices mixed in. Still doing fairly well. The first night and second day were pretty bad with flu symptoms, fever, shakes, headache, etc. Today I just have a REALLY bad headache, but hanging in there. My goal this weekend is to try green smoothies with greens other than spinach, we'll see how that goes...

remember... parsley IS a green. so are all your other herbs and they are better than greens in some ways so be sure to add them as well.

i just made my juices for camping. 4 litres of apple/ginger/parsley (heavy on the parsley). i also made a nice one for sipping while i was juicing.

i started off with rhubarb. and yup it tasted JUST like rhubarb. so tart and yummy. then i added in a few strawberries. nice tart taste.

then i added in an orange (without peel), 1/2 an apple, a bit of parsley and mmmmmm was that EVER amazzzing!!! the orange was the big ticket item in this.

we are almost packed for camping... leave in a few hours... :D looking forward to sitting beside a fire sipping juice... mmmm that'll be amazing!

have a GREAT weekend everyone.

leah... i'm very very proud of you for continuing with your feast even though you felt like crap. you are doing GREAT!

i am finally all ready to go. *whew* i've decided to take a few extra juices with me... better too much than not enough!!! i figure i may want one tonight when the girls are having their 'stuff' around the fire...

so... 6 litres will come with me instead of 4.

one tonight
4 tomorrow
1 extra just in case.
none for sunday. i can hit the juice bar on the way home. :)

and i'm taking chlorella with me, so i should be more than good with all this. :)

I did it again!
Day 5. Cleanse has ended. And I ended almost the same way as every other short cleanse, binging. Usually I binge eat on nuts and seeds but this time it was bananas. Which is better then nuts and seeds but still not a good way to end - eating too much of one thing after not eating anything for 5 days  damn.
I really thought I was serious this time too. I almost feel like I could continue the cleanse tomorrow and pretend like tonight didn't happen.... I don't know what I'll do, guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

I haven't gone camping in 2 years! I hope you and your family have a good time Aleesha!

leah, keep sucking back those green smoothies and hopefully you'll feel better soon!

goo luck on your water fast michele!

Morn, do ever get a weak feeling when working out, especially while cleansing like you are? Do you lift weights or do any squats? The other day when I was working out I was having trouble getting to that 'burn' while lifting weights, my body felt like it was going to collapse.... I'm starting to wonder if I should go back to my doc. for B12 shots again..

Aleesha by the fire sipping juice.. I love that image, I do.

That sounds a bit harsh, Sar. You did 5 days and then ate bananas?? Not so bad in my book! Bananas will do little harm, even if there were a lot of them.
They are really good food. And day five can be a make it break it for many people.

Good for you Leah for holding on through the detox. It can suck those first few days.

I am day 13 and doing really well. And feeling really well today. I am happy. The moodiness passed and I feel the peace.

My liver was complaining yesterday. I did an epsom salt foot soak last night that really mellowed me out. I went right to sleep! I plan on doing a liver flush a few days after this cleanse is finished so I am not worried at all. I have done 30 of them. I am just aware that there is pressure on my right side at and just below the ribs.

I had amazing dreams. This is the second time in a dream during this cleanse that I dealt fiercely and effectively with someone treating me badly.. overstepping my boundaries. I had fear, but I took amazing action. I am a lemon warrior! LOL Don't mess with me!
