View Full Version : Need Help With Yam Recipe
04-10-2009, 11:47 AM
Ok, so I picked up some yams yesterday, thinking I could make some delicious, wonderful, dehydrator thing with them. I'll eat just about anything, but the issue is I want my 7yr son to like them, too, since I am weaning him off grains (he has allergies/behavior issues from them).
I am thinking something to snack on, like a cookie or a crisp, but not too sweet, which might satisfy a bread type craving.
I would experiment, but I am really broke & I don't want to waste ingredients on a recipe that might not be right.
Thanks in advance to everyone!
PS. I have a food processor & a vitamix, raisins, dates, apples, bananas, spices & pecans.

I like a yam blended in the vitamix with dates, pecans, pumpkin pie spices, and maybe a couple drops of vanilla. Add just enough water to blend it smooth. It makes a nice pudding or pie filling. I've also spread it out thin on a teflex sheet and dehydrated it. Makes a great roll-up.

I will try the blender yummy for me. I wonder if it would dry out crispy after a while in the dehydrator - my son doesn't like roll ups/leathers, but he may like something more crunchy/crispy with those flavors, he loves pumpkin pie spice.

Never throw anything out. I make all kinds of Smoothies with Flops. What about Kale Chips of course you don't use S. P. in them. I am so Happy that your Son is taking to RAW.

The little guy started out 100% raw, actually, and has been about 80% raw his entire life, except for 2 summers he spent with his grandmother.
He is watching me write this and just said, "Mmmmhmmm. That's when I got fat. Couldn't fit in my pants then. But now I'm thinner, thanks to my mom."
I wish I would have kept him 100%, me too obviously. My mom kept feeding him cooked food, especially starchy junk food, every time he was at her house, and, unfortunately, she was the only one helping me out at the time. Plus, she is really cute and he loves her.
She agrees with me about being raw now(she watched our health decline), so hopefully she won't be such an obstacle this time around.
What is S.P.? Flops! I've never heard them called that before, how adorable!
