Hi All- Thanks for taking the time to read this. This is my second attempt at raw. I tried before Christmas on my own and it only lasted a couple of weeks. I am hoping by joining here the support will help me be successful.

So what brings me to this forum? A few reasons but mainly…
2 weeks ago I had another allergic reaction to "something" in the food I ate. My face swells up, my stomach cramps to where I cannot stand up straight, I break out in hives, black out, and if really bad my throat starts to close and my tongue swells. The swelling in my face will last 2-3 days depending on the severity. Not fun but “bearable”, Except this last time scared me! I went to the hospital in an ambulance because my throat was closing to fast and my reactions are getting worse. (I have between 3-8 a year.) According to my allergy tests I am not allergic to any actual food but I am allergic to some preservative they put into the food. Needless to say they cannot inject me with a bunch of chemicals to find out which one. So every time I eat at a restaurant, or try a new brand of food (sometimes brands I have had before but the manufacture has changed a few “ingredients” that I did not know about.) or eat at some ones house, it is crapshoot as to how I will feel in the next few hours and if I will be out of commission for a few days.

Ultimately my goal is that I can stick to a high raw diet to help heal my body (which obviously violently hates what I am feeding it now.) and to take the nervous uncertainty I am now experiencing every time I eat. From reading on these boards it sounds like a lot of people are able to get off their medications and lose weight. This would definitely be an added benefit as I hate filling my prescriptions and would ideally weigh 15-20lbs less than I do now.

Again, thanks for reading! – I am 4 days into my new lifestyle and I am exhausted, have a splitting headache and sore throat. I am hoping this is just detox though and NOT a cold…Fingers crossed!

Hello and welcome. I have to say I am sorry to hear that you have such strong reactions to unknown substances. That is hard when you don't know what to avoid exactly.

This is my 6th week raw, i've lost 12 pounds with barely exercising and i've been eating as much as i want. I keep it pretty simple eating only fruit or a smoothie for breakfast and lunch and for dinner i have something with greens and nuts. Lettuce wraps are easy or large salads with a yummy dressing.

I went raw because I was tired of playing the guessing game with calories and foods, and portions etc, my skin is fairly dry but sensitive so it gets red and itchy and breaks out easilly and i never knew was was causing it. So I take out ALL of the unknowns of packaged foods and i can say it is getting so much better. I'm happier and have more energy too. No one likes being tired and sluggish and bloated all the time.

Congratulations, just take it one day at a time and get excited about trying new foods and eating more of the foods you do like. As long as you keep it a positive you will keep going forward.

Perhaps it is detox... i don't know, i never experienced any until this weekend i had a scratchy throat and am a little stuffed up. It's day 4 and it's almost gone, which is great. I used to be sick and stuffed up for a month at a time in the winter. :)

When I was told a few years ago I had IBS and Gerd, my daughter told me I was lucky because it forces me to eat the way I know I should eat.

Good luck with never having to suffer one of those attacks again, even though they are the blessing that had you turn to the healthiest diet on the planet.

Best of luck on your raw journey!
