I need to lose a BUNCH of weight. Like 73 pounds to get to my previous lowest and then another 40 to get where I really want to be. What are everyone's experiences? I lost 150 in 10 months back in 1998 and then fell off the wagon. It was super fast, but I was 20 then.

Anybody with a lot to lose, need a diet buddy? I'd love someone to chat with throughout the day who has a lot of free time and a lot of weight to lose and very little willpower like me! *S*

Hey there!
I need to lose a lot, too.
Around 30 kg!
I would love to have a diet buddy!

I have decided to go on a juice feast starting tomorrow, it's mainly for healing but weight loss, too.

How do you intend to start over?

Hey there :). I have around the same amount of body fat to lose & would love to have a buddy! :-) I lost around 100lb in 1999 in about 4-5 months eating raw, and I was also 20 then.

Feel free to contact me! I don't have much free-free time, but I work from home on the phone & can be on IM during the day/early evening.

Best Wishes,

Michele

I need to lose about 60 pounds. I have lost 30 in the past on the SAD diet, but this time I want it to be more about health and not just losing the weight.

So, can you lose weight by eating nuts&avos?

When I first started reading about raw, I ve read all these stories of eating 4-6 avos a day and huge amounts of nuts and losing loads of weight- I was over-joyed!

However, my body does not work this way...:(

Good for you! That's such a mature attitude about it. I'm almost there myself. I want to lose. But, almost as much as that (I said almost), I really want to feel better, too...

I honestly haven't tried it. I've only done very low-fat raw (was on a Susan Powter kick at the time...still am, sorta) and it worked as well as you could ask for. But, my suspicion is that my body would do the same thing.... I'm not sure I'm willing to test it out at this point in time.

When I lost the initial weight back in '99, I was eating a lot of nuts, young coconuts and avocados. Not sure how well I was chewing those nuts, though, LOL, which might account for some of the weight loss. I also used to have like 1/2 cup of olive oil per day. I actually feel my slower weight loss now is due to being too broke to follow my instincts on what to eat. It was much simpler back then...I just ate whatever my body told me to eat that was raw. I lived in NYC, so there was always a place I could get what I wanted, so I would spend my time out and about in the Village, walking to whichever health food store had the best deal on raw pistachios, or the one that had the dried mulberries, or the freshest strawberries. Also, fruit stands! Sigh. *homesick*

When I did add calories back then, I always found it hilarious that they were often over 4000 per day.

What I didn't eat back then was blended foods, dried foods other than fruits, cacao or carob, complicated recipes other than salads, unless I was visiting a raw restaurant. I didn't have all the fancy machines yet, and I couldn't be bothered. I'm all nostalgic now!

I had a point...oh yeah, listen to your body, especially when you learn to tell the difference between gut cravings(these are usually for unhealthy foods) & actual bodily needs.

Best Wishes,

Michele

LOL. I've really heard that before.

When I talk to my BFF about weight she gets mad at me because she's much heavier than me. But, extra pounds are extra pounds no matter what point you started at. I can't fit into over 1/2 my clothes - and NONE of my nice clothes that I bought the LAST TIME I lost weight.

So, how is everybody doing today?

I started by juice feast this morning and so far so good!
I also oil pull (have been at it for a few weeks regularly) and skin brush (it DOES make a difference) next week (after my period) I will continue going to the gym with my personal trainer.
Hopefully, all of this will help my body in this process!

Yeah, I have a couple BFFs who think they are huge, but they are like 110lb smaller than me, LOL. In their defense they are 5'3", but I still find it amusing & annoying when they call themselves names, then tell me, "But you're tall!" I might be tall, but they are bordering on healthy body fat percentage, and I still have quite far to go. It's the self-deprecation that really bugs me, but that is because I don't believe in talking bad about ourselves because of our weight. We are beautiful regardless! Grrr!

:D But yeah, I know what you mean, it still feels uncomfortable when you are overweight for your own standards - it's all relative. :o

I tried oil pulling once...what does it do for you?

Body brushing really does work, and it feels good, too, which is nice. I need to start doing it again. I liked it when my ex brushed me, LOL.

I made it through some crazy stress yesterday, all raw! I kept thinking "but I don't want to have to go back to the board saying I caved" - so cool, I never thought a forum/online community would help like this.

Yay!

Just be raw! Don't worry about fasting...it isn't necessary, though you may feel inclined to do it at some point. In the beginning, it is better just to enjoy as many raw foods as you want!

Hey has anyone not been able to loose weight eating raw....at least in the beginning? I've been raw since 1/1/09 & I feel awesome but I don't know if I've really lost anything. I don't weigh b/c I don't like scales but I haven't really noticed any changes in my body though. Has anyone been where I've been where it has just taken them a while for their body to heal from past issues then the weight came off after a while? I would love some stories from people like me b/c it kind of is discouraging. I really don't have much to lose but the fact that it isn't coming off is frustrating.

Hi there...I just checked out your thread about analyzing diet...it seems you are eating really well & exercising. Please forgive me if you already do this, but do you wait a day between lifting weights for a certain muscle group?

Have you tried interval training? Are you lifting with high or low reps? Most women do high reps, but I have found the best results with 6 reps per set & enough weight that I can barely get through the final set. Maybe your body needs something more dynamic, like sports instead of the gym?

I know I am just throwing suggestions at you...sorry :-).

Since you are at a healthy weight for your height, you may just have to give it some more time. Your body might be stubbornly holding on to the little bit of fat that keeps you from looking as toned as you would like. Sometimes it is harder to lose weight when it is cold...you might see improved results in the spring/summer.

How do you feel? Is the raw food making a difference in your health? You might need to play around with the balance of your fruits/veggies/nuts/seeds a bit to see what works with you. I have a friend who cannot do the low fat raw food at all - she gains weight; then there are other people who feel terrible on high fat raw. I do really well in the middle, like maybe 30-40% of calories from fat, on average. I honestly don't pay attention to it much, and try to go by what I feel.

When I got close to my goal, I was able to break the plateau by not eating after 5 hours prior to bedtime (which for me was midnight, LOL, I was a night owl) and juice fasting one day per week. Back then, I didn't exercise at all though.

Good luck & don't give up!

Michele

I am feasting for healing, but weight loss comes hand in hand for most.

This is the quickest way for me to lose weight.
I do not lose weight just eating raw-if I have avocados, nuts, dehidrated goods, I don't lose anything...
I do plan on continuing eating low fat raw after my juice feast. Thankfully, yummy fruits await us!

I haven't been hungry today at all!:D

I am not 100% raw at this point unfortunately. I am working towards that. BUT by eating mostly raw I have managed to lose 30 pounds since September. I do have a long way to go - still more than 100 pounds to lose. I am hoping that by June or July I will be at 100% raw or pretty close. What I am happy about is that the weight loss has been slow and steady because I have changed my eating habits and eliminated a lot of the "foods" I use to eat. I have also added some exercise - not nearly enough and not consistenly. I am working on that too cause I know that will speed things up. I know that those changes will work out for me in the long term.:)

Oh, about Oil pulling- I really do not see much improvement...

However, when I eat lots of sweet fruit my teeth can hurt from time to time-with oil pulling it NEVER happens, also all the teeth plaque is gone!
So that is something...
I easily fit it into my scedule, so I will continue.

Also, I think my face is clearer a bit (although it's so hard to say since my face is usually clear anyway).

They say it helps with toxins...I choose to believe them ;)

Should we make a group on here? I saw something about it clicking around.

This is the longest I have been raw under such stressful conditions, and this community is making the difference for me, helping me to stay focused and accountable.

During the next ten days I might not be as available, spring break, but I will be checking in a few times a day.

However, my body does not work this way...:(

You can lose weight eating avocados (they are not a dense fat)
but nuts....take it easy...they are very dense and hard to digest...even raw ones.... Also, proper food combining makes alot of difference.:)

Another trick I heard about (from Natalia Rose) for losing that last few stubborn pounds is to not mix your fats.....so, if you eat an avocado on your salad, don't add any oils or nuts....and she also says to avoid concentrated fats in general (oils, nuts, seeds....yes, even extra virgin cold pressed olive oil...) So, I am trying this right now....I stopped nuts and oils all together, and I just use avocado on my salads.....so far so good, I feel a little less bloated....it's only been about 4 days though...we will see how it works...!

@ RayRay-Good Luck!

The thing is I cannot lose weight that way- I have tried...Also, I was 100% raw at the time and never combined avos and oil-no need for that.

I love the light feeling of either just juice or juice and juicy fruit during the day...:p

So how much are you hoping to lose?
I guess you are following Natalia's book?

@ RayRay-Good Luck!

The thing is I cannot lose weight that way- I have tried.

Everyone's body is definitely different; though I stubbornly believe no one "needs" cooked food, that aside, we all have a balance/way of eating which works for us, and it might change over time as we change. I think there are many factors which influence the balance of foods we need, ie, stress, exercise, sleep, location (city or country, north or south, etc), digestive strength, genetics, health, medications taken throughout one's lifetime, etc. I really like what I have seen of Alissa's approach because it seems to allow for individual variations in the raw diet, whereas other experts/gurus are often more rigid and dogmatic.

I can't wait to read her book!

How is everyone doing??? My scale died again, so I think I am going to go by measurements from now on - the tape never dies!

I only have about 10-15 lbs to lose...I'm 5'6" and my heaviest was 145, but I'm at 135 right now....the weight I usually feel most comfortable at is 120-125.....it's those last stubborn bits! I'm also trying to rid myself of candida....I am currently following Natalia's Detox for Women 30 day plan, it is designed to rid the body of candida, but it will definitely help with those last few pounds i think!

@ RawBabyMama- What are you doing to lose the weight? And what did the tape measure say?

@ RayRay- How far along on the 30 day plan are you? How is it going so far?

@ Jackiery- 90% should give you some benefits, depends on how you've been eating before.
Oil pulling is swishing oil in your mouth for about 20 minutes each morning (bfore eating or drinking)- More Infor. (http://www.oilpulling.com/)

I just hope that today will go well...I usually don't have problems during the week only on weekends with my eating...I had a cucumber-apple-ginger juice this morning after oil pulling and I am drinking water at work right now...

I am right now focusing on being 100% raw, no restrictions on amounts or times I eat or any of that. Next week, when spring break is over, I will be not eating after 7pm or so, and doing a water (or juice) fast every other day to help with my allergies. I lift weights every other day & I am trying to get in some cardio, which is difficult because I have a broken toe & a hurt foot.

The tape measure...LOL. I will do that tomorrow - today I am zee bloated from accidentally eating too much salt (long story) a couple days ago.

I look forward to eating 100% raw after my feast.

I have decided to stay on my juice feast for 28 days, so I ll have a few more days to break the fast before my trip.
It is NOT easy, I ve been hungry, but I also forget about being hungry quickly, so it is not too hard.

@ Sonyan- Recommended oils are sunflower and sesame (I use the latter)...I never swallowed, but had moments that were touch and go...It becomes easy very quickly, no gagging, no swallowing, just routine...
Are you interested in trying?

I need to lost about 60-70 lbs. I have been dabbling in raw food. I like many of the things that I have made, but it is sooo expensive to do it all the time.

I need lots of support to make sure I stick to it! And lots of really really cheap ideas, so that I can afford it.

I felt amazing when I was 2 months raw!! High raw!! Right now, my partner and I are trying to eat as many salads as possible, will be around 90% raw. So, that will be a start! But any other ideas are greatly apprecaited!!

@RawDrop- I can't help you in the recepies department...I have a few books and I go to other Raw websites, all have great and sometimes easy ideas for meals.
I am currently juice feasting, but since the summer is around the corner, I just eat fruit and when I feel like it a salad (avo&tomato- no added oils)...
I do juice my greens, but that is it...

I did buy into the whole dehydrator thing and making meals from 1000 ingridients from at least 5 continents, but its not relistic for me...time wise especially! It is WAY simpler just to eat as pure as possible...depending where you live it might be more afordable, too.

I am on day 3 of my juice feast, I am running a low grade fever (have been for a week now), I need lots of sleep, and work and other stuff are just NOT helping me at the moment!
Oh, how I wish like 10 days have already passed and I could feel/see some of the results!

How is everyone else doing?

I'm enjoying this thread and would also be interested in a weight loss support group. I've been pretty much 100% raw for over 3 months now, and have lost 42 pounds so far. My long-term goal is to lose 100 pounds, although I'm not really sure what my goal weight should be because I've been overweight for so long. I'm 5'8" by the way and have an average build.

This forum is very helpful to me in keeping up my motivation and not feeling alone in eating raw foods. I come here nearly every day just for some encouragement and reading about what others are doing.

Raw drop, i too realized how expensive it was to make complicated gourmet dishes and it's not practical if you are single, and very time consuming if you have a family. You could try working on increasing your overall fruit and vegetable and salad in take and try to get as many of your daily calories from those foods instead of expensive nuts and butters that you go through quickly. I do not have time to make a meal 3 times a day, so i just eat fruit or a smoothie for breakfast, lots of fruit for lunch and fruit for snacks, then for dinner i eat a salad and something else like a smoothie or a raw dish. Try to give yourself the best tools to become more raw, try keeping lots of fruit and salad on hand for snacking and try shopping twice a week for groceries if you are still unsure how much raw you can/want to eat as it will save you running out or having waste. :)

Silveretta

@ Qfmother- Wow, that is great! Do you intend on staying 100% raw until all of the weight drops?
Why are you thinking that 100 pounds shouldn't be your goal?
We should all be the best versions of ourselves!

Its a great achivment for an overweight (or any) person to be 100% raw consistently- you should be proud!

I am not sure, I ll be able to be 100% raw (travelling with friends), but I will for the next 2 months for sure!:D
