can any beans or peas be eaten raw once sprouted? my handy sprout book says you must cook these- so are they of no use to the raw foodists?
ex: black bean, pinto, kidney, lima, garbanzo/chick pea, black-eye pea, great northern, navy, soy, aduki, etc. ~

I've sprouted most of those. Methinks you need another sprouting book. :D http://www.sproutpeople.com/
Many beans contain various enzyme inhibitors and phytic acid, which inhibits absorption of various nutrients and makes digestion rather taxing. Phytic acid may be broken down by cooking, but soaking and sprouting also serve a similar purpose. In short, provided you eat them in moderation, soaked and sprouted beans should be just fine - your stomach will soon let you know if you can't handle them.
If you'd like to expand your reading a little on the arguments surrounding sprouts' alleged toxicity, then I recommend these links (thanks to Rhio):

Revvell-
ha-ha-ha! you're probably right! The book I have, by the way, I ordered from Natures First Law- it's called "Sprout Garden" by Mark M. Braunstein- it contains mostly raw instructions for recipes with a few exceptions for steaming "big beans"... I knew it might be debatable, since it says you must steam garbanzos, when I have serveral raw recipes for falafel, hummus, etc. w/ raw garbanzos...
thanks, I'll check out the link you posted ~ :D
