...you're eating?
The more carbs I ate the more I drink. A bite, a sip. Now since going Raw....
(Yesterday), I notice I am having trouble making myself drink, :p
I do add water and ice to the smoothies, but not enough.

Never. I try to not drink 30-60 min before and after food. Think 60 min is better though.

Same here. Something about how water will mess up with enzymes and the food doesn't get digested properly..... ?

so you kind of graze during the day. it's hard for people to graze to not drink 60 minutes after a meal.
how is your digestion michigan roman?

No water for me at meal time, unless it is in a smoothie. I often have a cup of ginger tea an hour after a meal. I might have a cup of herb tea with a meal on social occasions.

I never drink water. On a raw food diet there should be no need to.

Raw food is chock full of water, naturally distilled water—the best kind. Cooking dehydrates food. If you don't dehydrate your food, you don't need a beverage with your meals, or any other time.

For me I don't find the foods hydrate me enough, could be because of where I
live?
I don't eat much dehydrated foods, only on special occasions.
I work out and am doing a very intense work out program where without water I know I would pass out!
I also spend time in an infra red sauna almost daily as well as bikram yoga where I sweat A LOT !
I would imagine you'd have to eat/drink LOADS of juicy fruit ALL day longer to keep hydrated without drinking water...

When I did raw previously, I drank soda. *L*
But, yes, I like drinking water, even with meals. I can't see me giving that up. The foods do hydrate you, but sometimes not enough and a little extra never hurts in my opinion.

i used to drink water when i eat, but i read something that said that if you drink water when you eat, you are diluting the enzymes, so they are unable to do their job as well as they would have, being concentrated.
I actually find this to be true, because now if i drink straight after i eat, i tend to feel a little bloated and iffy. I know its not the food i eat, because it happens with anything.
So not i drink about 30 mins after, or if im really thirsty, about 15 mins after.

Well....drinking water has always been a must for me while I eat. I don't drink as much when I'm eating raw, but I'm still going to drink it. If I get thirsty, I drink water. I think I've restricted myself enough. I'm not taking my water too. (: But, you've gotta do what works for you.

I drink water when I'm eating if I'm thirsty or if I want it.
If I'm not thirsty or don't want it, I don't drink it.
But, then again, I tend not to analyze my food that much. :)

About 15 year ago - a friend said something about me drinking when I ate, and explained the concept of not diluting the digestive process.
Seemed like total bunk to me and I blithely ignored it.
But - as I naturally gave up most beverages in the name of health - pop, milk, packaged juices, etc. there wasn't much to drink anyway, and water is a bit of bore. I was left with coffee and tea as beverages - and preferred to savor those alone. Even with breakfast, I generally preferred to have my coffee mainly before eating, maybe a few sips with the meal. Or at family gatherings, we'd make a pot of coffee after the meal to accompany dessert.
Later - I came across the same concept in some natural hygiene writings, and I realized that somehow I had really cut down already.
One thing it mentioned was that water leaves a completely empty stomach in minutes, so I started to always make sure I was completely hydrated before eating by having a large glass or two of water.
I found that 1-2 glasses of water frequently led to 3-4 glasses of water! sometime more. And sometimes, I lost the desire for eating for an hour or too.
Some days, I can easily drink 6 or more glasses of water either sitting at my desk or at home getting ready for work over a 1-2 hour period.
I generally feel the mistake 1/2 through the commute, lol:p
When you're totally hydrated, you have no desire to drink during meals at all, and you sometimes put off eating - because you were really thirsty instead.
Wild animals eat raw (unless picking through our garbage!) and they prize the water hole and drink what they want. So I don't think we don't need water.

Every one is diffrent, realy raw food has all the water init, but i have been training for 30 odd years and found out i need lots of water as well, drink approx 5/10 litres a day when its hot and i have been training, but this is also because approx 15 years ago i use to drink lager etc,and coffee, and never drank water so i think i messed up my water system, sipping waterthrough the day, wont do you any harm the more you go raw the more your body will tell you,its all a learning curve,

Drinking water dilutes the acidity of the stomach - that is why it disturbs digestion. If you are eating something without much fat or protein, though, it is ok to drink water when you eat, or you can add lemon to your water, if you need to drink it with your food to be happy, and this will help to preserve the proper acidity.
I tend towards low stomach acid, so I don't drink water with my meals. I drink a lot of water between meals...I've tried only eating juicy, nonsweet fruits before(like cucumbers), and it still wasn't enough water, but I have sensitive kidneys from being diabetic when I was a teenager.
Follow your instincts on the water issue.
Best Wishes!

I eat enough raw food to maintain my weight, and never get thirsty. I never have any desire to drink anything. Haven't had a cup of coffee for 40 years, or a beer. My blood tests normal. No, I don't work out.

Ditto! A friend told me once I was a "big drinker" (those little dinky juice glasses are NOT for me!) I go through at least 96 oz of water a day!
