I have never made anything really chz like before, just added unsoaked nuts to a FP for things like rawvioli or lasagna.
I have some recipes that suggest adding probiotic capsules to the mix and leaving it out on the counter. I have no idea how the changes the flavour, if it makes it better, or if it is good for you, health-wise or digestion-wise.
I want to make taco salad this week and one recipe for "sour cream" calls for macademia nuts in the FP with garlic and lemon and another one is soaked cashews with a priobiotic left on the counter over night. I don't know which way to go as i've never cultured nuts!
What do you think?

MY stomach has a difficult time processing "cheese" and nuts in general.

I've never made a cheeze before either.
I'd try the macadamia sour cream, but that's because I don't eat cashews :p
Post pics of your taco salad !! It sounds good !!

I've made a sweet cashew cream for enchiladas with cashews, a date, and lemon juice. I didn't add garlic because the enchilada filling had plenty of garlic in it. It really made the dish.
I haven't made any of the recipes that call for letting the cheez set out. I have bought two different kinds at a raw food store and a raw restaurant. I'm sure many people like it, but I didn't care much for that fermented taste.

hmm cuz I don't know which one to try... lol it'd be expensive to make a lot with either nut and not like it! haha. Maybe i will make it tomorrow after i've decided, i just loved taco salad before, mostly because of the lettuce, chips and sour cream, but putting avo's and walnuts on it sounds so good now.

Speaking of cashews...is there any health benefit to them? I know almonds are great, and brazil's have lots of antioxidants, but i've never heard anything good about cashews...

I starting to think I shouldn't have them anymore. I made a raw cheeze cake last night, and when I eat it it kind of comes up a bit. I don't think my stomach appreciates my choice, in taste.
It's probably something I should never have actually.:(
I think I've made up my mind:)

Why don't you eat cashews? I have heard a few people say that

Unless you happen to work in a cashew plant or pick cashew apples, it’s unlikely you’ll encounter completely raw cashews. The so-called raw cashews sold in natural food stores are not exactly raw, but instead are steamed. It is the case that the double shell surrounding the raw cashew, which is technically a seed and not a nut, contains urushiol, a resin that can create significant skin rashes, and can be toxic when ingested.
Urushiol is the same chemical found in poison ivy, and it is present on the leaves of the cashew tree as well as in the raw cashew shell. Even the “unroasted’ varieties are steamed to release urushiol from the nut and make it safe to eat. Certainly, those raw cashews sold as raw have been processed to remove urushiol.

So does that mean it is not safe to order the ones online that say truly raw?

Maybe you could ask them how they are deshelled. The ones at the store say raw, but i don't expect them to be and try not to eat cashews too often.

Yeah i actually think i may have an intolerance to cashews. That's interesting, thanks. I didn't know that.

They are very good for their magnesium and copper qualities......

If it is a raw food specialty place, I think they are fine. They are pretty pricey, but worth it for the sour cream, IMHO!

I usaly makes cashew "cheeze" with soaked cashews, garlic, salt, black peber, flaxseed oil, water and lemon juice. Put lemon juice until you get the tright "soure" taste. I also feel that the flaxseed oil give it an extra flavor that is a bit like sourecream. Well I dont know.... it is super jummy anyway :D
I find that nut or seed butters made with soaked nuts/seeds are much more easy to digest than raw unsoaked nuts. But all in moderation ofcourse. Adding some water when you make the butter/cheeze makes it way better to digest in my appinion.
