Fruit is probably my favourite part of this way of living, but I have a hard time deciding on my favourite...

My favourite semi-local fruit would be B.C. Cherries i love bing and ranier cherries

My favourite imported fruit would be papaya

What's yours?

Mamey Sapote-though I rarely eat it because it's hard to find & expensive.

Mango is my favorite fruit I can eat on a regular basis.

Wow i had to google that because i'd never heard of that mexican fruit. I love mango too, but we get really nasty ones imported up here, they stay green and rot before they ripen... :( I buy frozen for smoothies

That sucks about Mango. It only recently became my favorite and definitely would be upset if I couldn't get it. Mamey is amazing. Like a soft, sweet potato only better. I use to be able to get it more often.

I would love to eat mango frequently! I love how soft and juicy it is.. mmm, they're just really expensive too.

I don't give bananas enough credit, i usually buy 4 bunches a week so i always have some turning yellow. I use them for smoothies and all my desserts like pudding or icecream. I love you too bananas thank you for keeping me raw! I have anywhere from 2-6 a day.

Veronica, scuppernongs are local grapes that I grew up on. There's another one called muscadine, very similar and I actually don't know the difference. Some are black and some are golden. They're nothing like the grapes we have today. There's a thick hull (some people eat, I don't) and you squirt the insides into your mouth. I have no idea how to describe the inside. Slimey, sweet, tart, orgasmic flavor.

Wow I have never heard of that at all... im annoyed at regular grapes right now, always being a little squishy or over ripe and giving me tummy aches.

That sounds cool, I'd love to try some. :)

Me too!

For non-sweet fruit, avocados, of course, they are creamy heaven.

I also love grapes, mangoes, durian, all berries, and those huge juicy oranges from california. Oh, and nectarines, mmm. I love all fruits when they are in season...at other times of year, they aren't the same.

Mangos and berries (any!) also cantaloupe.

Hmmm, must be a Canadian thing on those mangoes...lol, unripe straight to rotten! Every once in awhile I used to be able to get good ones, but they're so expensive I've just stopped trying.
BUT I LOVE them, so I buy big bags at Costco, frozen for my smoothies...they are also good thawed and just eaten in a bowl.

Daily: Bananas, mangoes, tomatoes, usually avo too.

Seasonally: Cantaloupe, cherries.

The rest I love, but not consistently.
Fruit!!!!! Good thread....am subsisting more and more from Fruit!:)

Ahh! I remember eating those as a kid growing up in the South. The dark ones were called muscadines & the light colored were called scuppindines (or vice versa). They had a bit more wild taste than the regular grapes. Since the skins were thick, they would sometimes make a slight pop sound when you bite down on them and the sweet pulp would burst in your mouth. The skins were a bit tart but stiill yummy!
