I have seen such remarkable results for myself that I want to do this for my dog. I don't have a clue how to start doing this. Do I give her raw meat? Do I wean her into it, or do I just jump in, like I did with myself? She is deaf, blind, on thyroid med and Pepcid at night. She is on a high quality pet food, but I know that anything other than raw is not high quality. I can't tell you how much I will appreciate any input.

Annie

BTW: She is a sheltie and weighs 28 pounds. She is not overweight.

I don't know about this, given the age of your dog. I would start slowly if this is going to be a drastic diet change. Let us know how it goes with him or her.

i used to have 2 raw poodles - winnie and loupie. winnie was 17. loupie lives with my dad now, so is not raw except when he visits me.

i transitioned winnie to raw, because she came to me from my dad at that golden age! (we rotate poodles in our family:))

that is Loupie in the pic!

so......i did buy the stella and chewy frozen raw patties. i started mixing it with her science diet and gradually increased the raw decreased cooked. she was thriving! she could barely walk, but after a while on raw (and some blessed water from Amma the hugging saint) she was out-running us all! seriously.

ah, memories! i love winnie. she went to LA for the winter and vanished out of my brother's backyard. true story.

i also gave her stella and chewy treats, and offered them whatever i was eating.

ani phyo talks about raw dogs in her book. her dog is a raw vegan.

be careful if you do raw meat bc it gets so nasty when it goes off you will gag.

join that yahoo group. you will get TONS of info on the raw food diet for dogs.

you can search all the threads. so much information. if you have any questions ask there, or send me a message.

it is a wise idea to start your dog on it, and also it's cheaper then conventional dog food if you know how to shop.

I too wean my dog. A 4yrr old chocolate lab, when I do raw with him. I stop only for money reasons but when I can he loves the Honest Kitchen and I love that you just add water so you do not have to deal with bloody meat. You do have to wait about 10-15minutes for the water to hydrate the food. (The longest 10 minutes of his life every time!) You should see some great results like you do with yourself. Mine has a darker shinier coat, trimmer physique, and crazy enough he is calmer! Being that he is a lab that is a godsend!
Here is info on the honest kitchen if you would like to read up.
