Hi!

I am curious what not raw items people include in their diet, such as nutritional yeast, maple syrup, tea, box nut milk, lightly steam veg, "raw" nut butter that may not be truly raw, etc.

thanks!

Goody gumdrops question. No I dont eat gumdrops...haha

I do not get on the nitty gritty train. I eat mostly raw.

I have tea yes and nutritional yeast occaisionally. No box mylks. No steamed veggies.

I use only raw nut butters. I have one recipe I use organic peanut butter in..not raw.

If I have raw nuts and not sure they are all raw? I know most I have are.

Sometimes I chew gum(Peelu) and have mints from Co-op. If I choose non raw items I make sure they are "better than the best sad. hahaha

I would however, love to see how I might do on all raw. If it takes my health to a whole new level. Look at what stops that too. Reckon its tied in with what is going on in the rest of my life right now...all good.

Oh and wishing you a hip hop hapnin class today!!!

Hi,
I included nutritional yeast every day about 2-3tbsp. I really like the taste alot, because it kind of taste like bread dough. But also it has so many B vitamens that I feel it is worth taking it even though it isn't raw. Also I include 3 large cups of tea daily, but not black tea yerba mate and fruit teas (republic of tea). I dont let the water boil, just take it of when its hot. I just recently found out about raw almonds and other raw nuts not being "raw" so I am trying to cut alot of that out. Right now I am currently enjoying alot of dried fruit, though the sugar content is probably off the wall, it is weaning me off nuts. Also I feel dried fruits are more easly replaced by real whole fruits and veggies then nuts are. Once I start with nuts I cant stop. I dont use maple syrup but I use agave or raw honey in my tea.

Shakti you girl,hahaha
It seems to be the general state of many.
Beatings for cooked. We are amazing in all we eat raw. Imagine some never see a real live veggie in a day? woweeee

The beatings will now cease.Hooooray!

Rawk on.

If I eat something cooked, it's a potato. Usually with jalapenos and vegan butter. That and rice seem to be the easiest on my stomach.

I also use nutritional yeast, and occasionally drink tea. I haven't been using raw almond butter either. Just the regular stuff. I haven't been using it that often, and the raw stuff is a bit pricey so I haven't added it to my cabinet yet.

I still drink herbal tea from time to time, especially when I get really cold at night. I also use a lot of nutritional yeast becuase I feel it does more good than harm and I absolutely love the flavor. I also use dry spices when I don't have fresh ones on hand. I'm still not sure if pickles and olives are raw or not, but when I use them, which is seldomly, I use the organic pickles and olives from the co-op. There might be a couple of other little things here and there, but other than that I am raw ;)

When aspiring to be 99% raw - The exceptions are, I believe for me, Braggs liquid aminos, olive oil that is not cold pressed if I haven't bought any expensive cold pressed, braggs vinegar sometimes, non raw olives- I can't source the raw one's unless online, sometimes gum.

But in general when I am eating 60% - 100& raw, the cooked foods I will eat are sweet potatoes/blanched brocolli/parsnips/butternut squash/chinese sea crackers. I don't ever eat any food that doesn't react well anymore such as and bread of any kind or pasta because although I use to do that, i was only hurting myself as the "fix" was short lasted and I ended up sorry... So I don't engage in "abusive food relations" anymore now.

For some reason, I digest quinoa better cooked than raw. It keeps me feeling strong, at least to wrap up the long winter here in Oregon. I let my body tell me how much raw I need.

I still occasionally use nutritional yeast, miso and tamari, which are not raw as well as some store-bought dried herbs and spices when I run out of my home dried ones. I was using Bragg's Liquid Aminos for awhile but I absolutely hate the taste so I switched to tamari instead.

I also have a feeling that two types of nuts that I buy occasionally are pasteurized or steamed in some way. They're not salted or roasted but I'm pretty sure they're not 100% raw. I don't beat myself up over them because I really don't use them very often.

Herbal Tea - daily. I love the stuff. Always have, probably always will. I use medicinal, healing herbs or nutritious herbs.
Spices - I make sure they are non-irradiated and organic not all are raw.
Tamari
Miso
Steamed veggies, baked sweet potato, steamed quinoa - On rare occassions.

I have quite a few exceptions that are all very rare - so I believe my diet is at least 95% raw on any given day. My exceptions (that I can remember right now) are Ezekiel bread and tortillas, Veganaise, Bragg's Liquid Aminos, maple syrup, dried spices, xylitol mints, carob powder, my own homemade goat cheese, cooked jalapenos in my husband's salsa (the rest is raw), nutritional protein/fiber meal from Young Living, dried unsweetened coconut. Some of these are definitely transitional foods and I am planning to wean away from them after I run out, or get a good supply made of something such as raw bread.

And then of course there are the things I wonder about such as raw nuts that might not be truly raw, frozen fruits, raw agave nectar (is that truly raw?), Nori, etc. I'm trying to find my own balance between too much legalism and the highest percentage of raw that I can.

Herb tea, occasional black, green, or chai tea.
I will sneak a little nutritional yeast in.
In the past month, we've gone twice to the local Thai restaurant, where I've indulged in salad rolls (it's a good 60% raw), and we then split an entree. On Friday, we split "Garlic Pepper" which has huge Thai basil leaves, carrots that are still really crunchy, and tons of fresh garlic. I skip the rice completely -- DH eats about half the rice he used to.
Saturday, I woke up with a horrible headache, and was crabby all day. Yup, Detox!
Thai food is my "one thing" that I was keeping, after going raw. Every other week, one meal out, having Thai. Now, I'm not sure that it is worth it.

I also occasionally have a soy latte at Starbucks. It's usually a tea latte, like the Tazo Chai. I can no longer stomach the "chai tea" syrup they use, and I'm not drinking much coffee anymore... no more than 1 cup a week. Often less. The last time I had a tea latte, I really didn't care for it. So, now I just order tea.

As my goal for raw has always been "about 90%", this has all been within my accepted parameters. :p

Coffees from Starbucks and sometimes energy drinks
I just can't seem to let go of the caffeine... Maybe because I don't want to ;)
The cayenne that I bought about a week ago I don't think is raw, and the apple cider vinegar we have isn't. Those two things I rarely have...

Living in the tundra like hills of Massachusetts near Vermont border, I enjoy herbal tea daily, and occasionally Teecino ( a coffee substitute).

I also may have a little bit of unpasteurized miso, tamari, and nutritional yeast, and non-raw spices.

On rare occasions I might buy a "raw" power bar, like a Lara or Raw Revolution bar, that are probably not 100% raw.

Oh, I almost forgot... Sometimes, I will indulge in a few handfuls of my DH's popcorn while at the movies....;)

I eat cooked fruits and vegs. Like, when I eat at Fresh Choice I will eat steamed broccoli rather than raw. I can't stand raw broccoli. :P
I made some kale chips the other day in the oven. I eat soup(peas, lentils, broth) and cooked potato. Oh, and I freakin love cooked chickpeas/garbanzos. I love these things in salad, by themselves, dunked in dressing, hummus...etc...

Right now, I am giving up wheat and a few other foods so I'm going to eat what *I want* while I get through this period. Then I plan on going 100% raw soon.

I guess for me, I go by how something "borderline" affects me.

Like those olives at the olive bar, the black wrinkly greek ones, mmmm. They don't hurt me at all, so I steal them sometimes in little sample cups.

I use herbs & spices freely, but I won't use something blatantly cooked, i.e., roasted red pepper flakes. I make herbal teas, medicinal herbal infusions as needed. I would eat nutritional yeast, but it gives me hives :(. I take supplements which are probably not raw at all - ginkgo, rhodiola, etc for my ADD. I use liquid stevia in small amounts. I have used the crappy vinegar at the bar at Golden Corral when I didn't bring my own dressing - that stuff is not raw - but I won't touch the oil. I would probably use hot sauce, if I really wanted to, and it was organic and had no sugar - just peppers and vinegar.

I use raw organic agave nectar, but I have heard these are not really raw? I also share otherwise raw foods made with "raw" cashews from the store for my son. I don't buy nuts not labeled as raw, but I think the almonds are now pasteurized? They taste dead & make my throat funny, so no almonds for me.

Things were much more simple a decade ago, before the gov't started pasteurizing and irradiating to the extent they are now. Other than these items, anything else cooked and I say I was not all raw that day.

hmm

For me there's 2 kinds of non-raw foods:
1 don't seem to make me feel any different and don't stress me out
2. make me regret eating them the next day :(

So my non-raw stuff that i add often are: Bragg's, unpasteurised Miso, toasted seaweed, salsas in a jar (from our health food store)

other things i end up eating now and then- like rice or millet for example- make me feel quilty and miserable thereafter

RawSar, I do the coffee too! It's a tough one to give up! I broke my addiction to needing it every morning first thing...but now I have it occasionally as a treat! (a couple times a week!)
I also bake sweet potatoes with onions, or baked beets....
sometimes I warm up my soups:eek: or my marinara sauce (but I put it on raw zucchini...!
Remember, you are on a journey.....enjoy it where you are at, and don't get down on yourself just because you are not perfect yet!...

I'm glad I'm not alone with the occasional Starbucks Coffee. ;)

I am mostly Raw or High Raw also. I still will have non-raw chocolate and a soy mocha. I have had on rare occasions non-raw chips and salsa or bite of hubbys pastry. But, more and more I am finding that when I do eat non-raw and non-organic it leaves an after taste and weird feeling. So, I guess this is how the body conviences us to stay and be raw.

this is a GREAT thread! b/c it makes me feel not guilty!! : P

i have steamed veggies w/fried rice about once every week and a half. (veggies still very crunchy).
i eat blue corn organic chips with my avocado. as SAD goes, they arent bad. only 3 ingreds (organic blue corn, sunflower oil & sea salt).
and i also toss in some canned black olives into my HUGE salads once in awhile.
those have been my only "cheats" from being 100%.

Some of my non-raw stuff at home is typical here: miso, stuff sold as raw but might not be (almonds, agave, etc), spices, balsamic vinegar, frozen spinach (smoothies).

Most of my coffee has gone to the way side, but breakfast out (another guilty pleasure - which is less frequent - maybe 2x per mo) I ask for half caf instead of full caff.

I still let myself have a non-raw meal out a few times a month...but even then, it's mostly salads (just some of the dressings/toppings are not raw) There even have been times at certain restaurants where I'll even order a pasta dish! Pure Food & Wine is just not available here in Norfolk, VA (but when I go home - woo hoo!)

I will buy organic OJ, and Vita-Coco which do not meet the "RAW parameters" - this is my smoothie liquid. (I can't keep enough oranges or coconuts in my house to keep me happy with my personal green smoothie quotas!)

Just because something is healthy/raw, does not mean it sits well with you - same goes for non-raw foods - if they cause problems - don't go back to it! If 100% RAW is your personal goal - best wishes to you!! It is all about feeling great!

**hugs**,

What an awesome thread! My goal is to be 100% 100% of the time, but every once in awhile I indulge in some REAL ice cream...funny thing is...lately...it doesn't even taste good. Which is GOOD, but not good? haha Has anyone found that when they eat more than a little bit of cooked food you get really moody? My husband informed me that I'm much more even-keeled when 100%. I thought that was a testament to raw fooding in itself! haha :)

once every year or two years i will eat a pejivalle. it's a fruit that is grown in costa rica, but you have to cook it in order to eat it. they are boiled and you can't eat them raw.

i don't know if i will eat them anymore though. i started eating them not knowing they were cooked. my mom tricked me into eating them and was all like you ahve to try this fruit. she knew i was raw though, and wasn't like one of those people that are all like oh you're raw, so do u eat soup? or something liek that. she knew what it meant. idk why she tried to trick me into eating it. anyway she did, and i LOVED them. then i went to the store to get some more and i saw them in the little boiler and i was like wtf? why?

then i found out the sad truth.

i ate like two of them two years ago. i don't know if i will eat them anymore though. they are delish, but are really heavy.

also i don't think i'll eat it actually.

it's like, it doesn't feel like the best (a little difficult to digest), and there are way more other things to eat (especially in costa rica) that feel better, so why don't i just eat that?

it's like i know what lasagna tastes like, and i know it tastes good, but i also know that it's kind of a gross feeling inside having something stagnant inside of me you know?

i don't know if that makes sense.

i'm not going to eat it anymore though i've decided.

much rather just eat a pineapple.
