so i am involved in a 2 month mountaineering class with very intense physical demand...we will summit Mnt Baker as the finale
today was our first outing and conditioning hike as a group
happy to say i hoofed it up with the speedy group and felt amazing at the top...like i could have gone forever!!!
there are lots of people who know i am "raw" and i am taking a lot of Sh** and confronting negative /"we'll see how it goes.." attitudes
i think i shut them up a little when i passed out the raw fudge i made for everyone :)
but i have to come here and with the big eye brow raise after watching people huffing down gas station bbq chips at the car
and they are skeptical about MY nutrition intake?????
needless to say every single hiker in my carpool said YES to some crunchy and hydrating celery sticks and some raw hummus for their dead chips
i'll roll myself off the mtn before i drink aspartame sports drinks!!!

and........ for those of you who are also looking for great conditioning, NOTHING has EVER given my body more strength FASTER than carrying weight up-hill
i have done lots of long distant cycling....like 80 miles a day type of stuff....that gave me great cardio (and a great butt ;)
lots of swimming...that just seems to give me big shoulders
lots of boring indoor gym stuff....that just gave me a false sense of productivity
but putting a thirty pound pack on and hitting the hills really does make me feel like an action hero! and within just a couple of weeks i have gained a whole new level of strength throughout my entire body....and the sense of exhiliration and gratitude that comes from being outside is just pure addiction...last week i woke up at 4 am and just had to get out of bed and GO

week 2!!
in the parking lot before we left....
mcdonalds sandwiches !!!!!!!! and DEET bug spray
on the mountain.....sausage and cheese logs:confused:
the raw version:
ok so I had tons off stress the night before our climb last week. stayed up too late and ate too much while making my energy bars the night before. had 2 anxiety dreams about being late. didn't eat breakfast, froze my green smoothie and it didn't defrost in time for lunch so i was on hour 5 or six with only raisins to burn.........oye! i will learn!!
BUT i did MR proud and held onto my raw action hero status!!
even under the stress, I was at the front of the pack for the ladies and did all of the hardest rock faces on the course!! It was so intense it was cold and windy up there and i was feeling weak and feeling negative minded and trembly but just hung in there
finally the sun came out and within 5 minutes of my green smootie and eating 4 dates I was ready to charge again!! and just felt totally excited
Saturday, we climb mt. higgins. It will be the toughest yet but i am raw and ready!!
the human body is incredible!!!

wow that is a great experience! I wish I could just get up and get out of here and do that. It's so great that you can do that and visually show people how you do it too. I cannot believe people would eat chips and mcdonalds when going mountain climbing... people that want to do those things you'd think would bring something more sensible like a bagel and creamcheese or a sandwhich hahaha. I feel dead and headachey if i eat chips.... wow all those flavourings are so toxic i always get sick now. :)

week 3!!!!!!!!
our first snow travel!!! and FIRST MOUNTAIN SUMMIT!!!!!!!
I was sooo nervous. we got up at 4:30 am and began the climb at about 8
we climbed a total of 5,200 feet. stopping near the top to practice "ice axe arrest" which means you intentionally throw yourself off of the mountain and get all out of control and then practice stopping yourself! it was TOTALLY FUN! i felt like i was 6 years old
and then did the technical rope stuff up to the top. Everyone in the class made it which was awesome.
so on to the food. the night before i went with yams, bananas, dried apricots and a salad
for bfast, i had a pureed yam with a handful of cashews and some cacao.
1/2 banana, spinach smoothie in the car
on the trail: i had 3 raw bars and about 4 dried bananas
we summited at 3 pm and i had 2 cabbage leaf roll ups filled with a yam/ raw protein pwdr puree and red bell peppers....and about an ounce of raw cheese  what can i say i bought it the night before in a panic about how long we would be out there....i know now that i don't need it ;)
and a baggie of orange slices and dates
i felt AWESOME. we worked a total of 9-10 hours in snow up to our hips and really challenging terrain
******i had 2 girls on the trail asking me about raw and wanting get into it***** they are both already veggie-ish and know a little but want to pursue!!! yea buddies :p
anyway for the have to laugh of the week.......huge narly pizza slices, and M+M rice crispie treats.....i swear i don't know how they do it!!
