Okay, so I finally got mine and of course I love it. My only problem is this - when I make thicker stuff, how do I get it out of the bottom? I keep losing stuff that I just can't get out.
Stupid question, I know. But with my old blender I could take off the bottom and scrape out the bottom.

I remove as much as possible with a soft spatula, and it's got the scars to prove it.

If I make something really good, I've been known to stick my fingers down there and then lick... :p
Yeah, getting stuff out of the bottom can be a b**ch!

I second the spatula idea...use a medium sized & an itty bitty one to really get in there, but you just have to let that 1-2tbs go...it's sad. I've been known to stick the blender cup in the freezer until the next time I made something, which works out if you are making another matching thing, ie, sweet & sweet or savory & savory. That just makes me feel better about not wasting. :-)
Be careful with fingers...those blades are sharp!

That is something that frustrates me when using the vitamix for small batches or for something that is really thick - I've switched to the food processor for those dishes.
I also use a spatula to get at whats left in the bottom of the vitamix, unless its something really yummy I have also carefully used my fingers when my boyfriend isn't in the kitchen :p

when I bought mine, 3 small spatulas with long handles came with it. They reach all the way to the bottom, and no fingers harmed.

The spatulla that comes with it works fine but you just need to be patient. The other thing would be to add a little tiny bit more of liquid in the bottom.

I just add Water and give it a Pulse and drink it.

I also add a little water pulse and then drink. But then again I have only made smoothies in my blender.

when i made the amazing chocolate ganache for my son's bday cake, i was horrified by the amount of chocolate cream that could have been wasted! I turned it into chocolate mylk! delice!

I've only had mine for a month or so but have gotten fairly adept at using a stiff spatula from my food processor (got an identical one at a dollar store for backup). I tilt the container about 45-degrees while I move the blade with the spatula to get the goodies hiding under it. Then I scrape down the sides. I lose very little.
Love the self-cleaning of the thing.

i have a few spatulas, but one of them fell behind the stove - sadness!!

yea, i may just do that. i replaced my 3 cup cuisinart w/ a 7 so that might work. my recent big problem was the spicey avocado caesar dressing from cafe gratitude. smoothies aren't usually a problem.
crap, now i want a salad and a smoothie, immediately :D

You'll never get it all out. You will have to come to terms with wasting a little if you use a vitamix.

I got a vitamix when I worked for the company. I had a lot of people aways calling in on trouble shooting problems like what is posted here. What I know will work the best is to get a fondu wand (it is used to stir and scrape the bottom of the pan). It is metal and curves at the end, long enough to reach and work around the blades/corners.
Good luck!
