I have a question, I bought some coconut oil/butter about a week ago. I went to use it to make some chocolate oatmeal almond butter no bake cookies and it did not have that pleasing coconut smell. It did not smell rancid or anything but it does not have taste either. Is it bad? Does it still have its healthy properties? I have always purchased this brand of coconut oil and have never had problems. I store it in a nice cool dark place like suggested. I can live without the smell and taste but I want it to still have its healthy qualities. What happened to it? What does it mean? I posted my question on another site too but people looked at it but I got not ideas. Thank you!

You could call the company that made it and ask them. They might want you to switch it out for a new one since youve never had this problem before. Ive never had that happen with mine.
What recipe are you making for the cookies?? They sound yummy.

It was just a recipe I made up. I had soaked some oat groats then drained and blended them in a food processor. Then I put in all the almond butter I had on had (1/4 cup), added some cacao powder, couple of spoonfuls of tahini, ground flax and agave. I made them into cookie shapes (what I had left after eating most of the dough) and dehydrated them for 8 hours to get that dry outer coating like the real choc no bake cookies. I think I am missing something. I was suppose to have written it down but never got around to it! I was trying to find a recipe that someone had posted but have not found one yet. I think I added some flax meal to it too.

The reason why my coconut oil does not have scent is because it is refined. I have never bought the refined jar before but it still has the same nutritional value and goodness. The refined coconut oil is for more uses and some people do not like the taste or smell of it. I must have been talking or wrestling with the baby when I grabbed the wrong jar. But it is fine. Now I know the difference between refined and unrefined cocnut oil!
