I'm trying to find some information about why grains are not meant for our consumption but I'm not finding an abundance of sites/articles - maybe I just not using the right keywords . If you know of any could you post them or direct me to them?
Thanks! =)

I think that's one of the "debatables" out there.
In ann wigmore's original version of the hypocrites diet - she stressed a lot of sprouted grains.
I really grew to love sprouted wheat berries and rye berries. I'd be more in tune with sprouted legumes being not good - cuz they don't taste good to me.
For the ideal - I try to envision the caveman diet - before spears and fire....would he eat it?

READ THIS BOOK..."Electrical Nutrition"...by Denie and Shelley Heistand....they talk alot about why grains are not fit for human consumption....but beware, they are not vegan.....it that bothers you then I hope you can try to take the good from it, and just pass over what you dis agree with...:) hope that helps

I've been wanting to read Dangerous Grains http://www.amazon.com/Dangerous-Grains-Gluten-Cereal-Hazardous/dp/1583331298 I'm waiting for my local library to get it in though. I don't eat grains(I stopped even when I was eating cooked) they don't agree with me, except cooked quinoa(I can't eat it raw, so I don't eat it) and corn which I can eat raw.

Hi...without getting or reading a book, briefly what is the premise of grains being not good for us?

It's not something natural that we would eat and be able to digest properly as a staple. I am still unsure if i'd want to eat them even sprouted, it doesn't seem like food, more like a convenient ingredient to make prepared meals.

Also im not sure if it is all grains, but wheat especially can cause mucus, wheezing and cause/make asthma worse.
I'm not sure whether it was the greeks or romans, but they used to eat raw wheat as a challenge around the olympics and see who was man enough lol. They'd get high and pretty sick off of it.

According to "The Natural Food of Man" by Emmet Densmore, grains and other starchy foods are hard to digest, putting "undue and unnatural strain upon the intestines." They require processing, and contain what he calls "earthy matter"—lime and potash, especially—the same elements that cause hardening of the arteries. They can cause elevated triglycerides and cholesterol. Densmore says that starches have to be digested in the duodenum, or second stomach, which is smaller than the primary stomach. He says that mastication and insalivation in the mouth can at best convert only a small percentage of a starchy food into digestible sugars. Our closest cousins in the animal world, the gorillas, never eat grains. Neither did primitive hunter gathering people.
Densmore says that grains contain "solid choking up matter" such as calcareous earth, phosphate of lime, carbonate of lime, sulphate of lime, magnesia, etc. What are stalagmites made of? What is cement made of? He says the same dangerous minerals are found in the clearest spring water.

I just saw a great movie called "King Corn" that talks about the prevalence of corn in the SAD (meat, oils, HF Corn Syrup, etc). Although not talking about all grains, it discusses how cows fed corn diets develop acidosis and get very sick....

Grains are very much changed from their wild state due to excessive breeding by humans. But I still enjoy grains on occasion :) . There are advantages and disadvantages to every food.

i have some 'oatmeal' (ground up raw oat grouts) a few times a week. i love it, and think it's great to have! i believe that it's good to challenge your system to digest some more difficult things once in a while. if i ate everything that worked thru my system easily with little or no effort, i think that would make my inside's start to get lazy on me! :D

Well, I've known pure raw vegans who went for years without raw sprouted grains and got their carbs from fruit. One of them ended up getting what she referred to as fruit psychosis, all of the fruit sugar can be hard on brain functions. She now sprouts grains, grinds them, ferments them like sourdough and makes a raw bread. She had some neuropathy condition calm down when she started doing this.
So, the moral of the story is: It's important for each and every one of us to be our own scientist and keep experimenting to see what our individual body needs.
