It is a 4 bowl bento box (Japanese Lunch box). This is one is a big size for carrying one meal and a snack, or creating two small meals like breakfast and lunch. Or lunch or dinner for those working more than an 8 hour work day. The four bowl one is called Mr. Bento. It is like $35 on Amazon.com

Amazon carries small size bentos and some of them square instead of bowl shape.

There are quite a few Bento American discussion boards and people are loving Bentos because they save money from having to eat out for lunch. And many claim that they are losing weight, too.

I heard that Mr. Bento is way too big for most people, so they also sell a Ms. Bento with 3 bowls.

This is $49.99 on Amazon. Weird that the "female" smaller size version is $15 more than the hearty "man" version.

I don't know which to get. Part of me wants Mr. Bento. I don't have to use the 4th bowl for food, but storing sauces and those pre-packaged handwipes.

Some bentos come with traveling chopsticks, but these do not. However they do come with a spork.

Okay, I just came up with some ideas. I might buy Mr. Bento, because it is cheaper and you get more bowls, but this how one can use all that bowl space without being overwhelmed of having way too much food.

bowl 1 (really big bowl): a green leafy salad.
bowl 2 (the soup bowl): fruit sauce (pureed fruit), or cold veggie or miso soup.
bowl 3 (medium bowl): raw maki rolls, or raw pasta dish.
bowl 4 (small bowl): your raw breads, crackers, or packets/containers of sauces, or chopped fresh fruit, or...

... a mixed of raw nuts with dehydrated raw fruit...to always keep as a handy snack whenever you are hungry to grab a handful. You can just keep the fruit & nut mixture in the container. Probably won't eat it all up in a week or two. It is your emergency snack, while the rest of the bowls are daily fresh food items!

Like this idea!

I might order this tonight!

This is great for college students, people who travel long distances and may get hungry during transport, or people who work long hours at work. Possibly, traveling over friends or relatives where you need to pack your raw meals, because they don't eat raw. It is good for two small meals, or a large meal and a snack.

Oh, I definately won't be tempted to eat non-raw when out and about town with this baby!

Someone wrote a Thread about Mr. Bento last year and I did not know what it was. Thanks for the Pictures. I use a "Lock and Lock" insulated Lunch Bag with plastic containers. Although this looks GOOD, I'm trying to keep the UPS Man away. Thanks for Sharing.

That looks so cool, might be great for travelling or camping. I can't really fit my whole fruits in there or smoothies. :)

Not smoothies, if you like to carry big chugs of it, but it can carry whole fruits. There are people on Flickr who post their Mr. Bento meals and many people can get a like 2cups of grapes, a half of grapefruit, a whole apple, 2 nectarines cut up in slices. huge amounts of strawberries.

Although not Raw, here is a Vegetarian/Vegan Mr. Bento Group on Flickr so you can get an idea on what and how much people put in their bentos.

I mean, it looks like a lot of strawberries in this one bowl to me.

I just ordered mine plus I paid $10 extra to get those tiny plastic cups to hold condiments about 1 oz (4 tablespoon worth) of liquid, cream, sauces. I think you get 4 or 5 of those little chars. It all cost me $47, but I was eligible for free delivery. The downsize is that I will have to wait 5 to 9 days for it to be delivered for free. But I think I can hold out for one week until next Friday.

these look really great, but have you seen a tiffin? they're similar to these, but they're all stainless steel. they're not insulated though, and they don't come with a bag, which seems handy, but it's got a built in handle, so it's easy to carry. you can always put it inside an insulated bag, if you want.

i'm pretty sure they're cheaper than the bentos. they have different sizes too, like 2 bowls, 3 bowls, 4 bowls, etc., and i think they might even have smaller diameter ones for kids, but i'm not sure.

i discovered them on youtube...look for videos on there called 'the raw tiffin'. the lady has great videos showing how she fills her tiffin up for the day with raw foods. i ordered my tiffin after i saw that video, i know lots of different sites sell them, so you can compare prices. i'm in canada, and i'm pretty sure i found mine on a canadian site.

anywhoo...sorry if i hijacked the thread, but it seemed related, and i'm always looking to use less plastic. i bought the 2 tiered one for my husband, and he loves it, and so do i! i think i'm going to get a bigger one for myself though sometime, so i can carry more fruit :)

p.s. i don't sell tiffins!! :)
