I followed the instructions in a book to soak flax seeds for 6 hours (I'm going to use them to make raw bread). The result was this gooey mess! Any advice please?
Thanks :o

"Gooey" that sounds right to me. This is suppose to happen. Soaking Flax seeds it creates its own "goo". This helps when making all kinds of yummy things like breads and crackers. It helps hold things together.
Continue following the recipe. So far so good :)

I've had the same experience. Here's a follow-up question - Once the flax seeds are soaked, do I need to rinse them before use? Or do I just take the gooey mess and add it to my receipes?

most recipes say rinse the seeds... I have found that trying to rinse the goo does not work very well and even in a strainer can cause a mess of seeds everywhere. If it's less than a day it doesn't bother me and i just throw it in lol

Egg whites make a gooey mess and holds things together. Gooey, soaked flax seeds take the place of egg whites.

I've never seen a recipes say to rinse flaxseeds. Either soak 'em or grind 'em. Don't rinse 'em.
