I want to begin a fast. I'm thinking juice fast but at the same time I think I need to do a cleanse. I know, I don't know what I want but that is not my question.
The question is. When you do a juice fast, how does it effect your workouts. Do you feel as if you have the energy to do them. How does your exercise program feel if you did a cleanse. Do you feel tired. I have heard that if you are doing a cleanse you should do light workouts. How true is that.
I ask because I work out noramly 5 days a week. 3 days of yoga, one day of cardio, one day of weight. Although this month I am taking a yoga class two times a week. I really want to have clarity in the class and think a juice fast may do that for me but I have never done one before and dont' want to leave myslef worn out for class. I'm thinking a juice fast will give me clarity and more energy than a cleanse but I don't know. Should I juice fast instead of cleanse? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most people can exercise like normal when juice fasting or juice feasting (feasting is a gallon of juice per day)... the best thing to do is simply give it a try. I know for myself... I am more tired while fasting. I still go to yoga but I don't have as much energy as I do when I'm not fasting.
You cleanse when you fast so I'm not sure what you other question is?

Thanks Alessha. I know you know a lot about this. I read your blog. Fantastic
I always thought that a juice fast was different from a cleanse (like in the master cleanse.) So that is where the other question came in. I thought the two were seperate. I heard that when you cleanse you were more tired so i thought maybe if you juiced fasted the nutrients from the juice would make you less tired.
Are those types of cleanses ( master, liver, ect) water and some other stuff like lemon and maple syrup. I know there is more to it than that but it would seem mostly water and not enough nutrients to give me energy to workout, homeschool and raise three girls.. Like I said I know nothing so I know I'm getting expert advice here. I know your enjoying your fast this time becasue it's the right time. I think it may be that time for me..

When I am fasting on juice I can still work out, but as previously stated, it isn't usually at a high intensity. My heart rate will elevate a lot more with a lot less so I just don't try to push myself.

Your Energy can be Low the first 3 days. After that your Energy comes Roaring like a Lion. By all means you should continue to work out while drinking LOTS of Water.

i don't believe you "should" exercise while fasting especially if your focus for fasting is healing because your body only has X amount of energy... you need to decide... do you want use it on exercise or allow your body to use that energy for healing?
of course, if your intention for fasting is not healing... then exercising is fine but please be sure to listen to your body. if it asks to rest... then allow it to do so.

...listen to your body...
i totally agree. listen to your body and do what you feel like doing
on the other hand, sometimes you have to push yourself a little
(especially if you want to develop/harden your body and mind)

sorry i missed this post.
fasting is cleansing... whether it's juice, water or a m/c - all are cleansing. fruit juice is more cleansing than greens (which are healing) - but no matter what you do... you will cleanse. :)
of course having the sugars and nutrients does make a difference for me... gives me much more energy.

jj, most people are already pushing their mind and bodies just to do a fast... it is certainly not the 'easy way out' of anything. ;)
but i agree... stagnation is never good but i don't know anyone who would call fasting stagnation *am i talking in circles or is it just in my head LOL*

agreed. fast is progression on itself.
my point was that sometimes (when fasting or not) i don't feel like exercising but
if i push myself a little and do it, then i feel better afterwards and am happy i did it

There is NO way I could be out exercising right now!
I'm doing my first water fast--day 7--and I'm bemused by the notion that I would have energy coming at my like a freight train. Not. I'm feeling quite good mentally and emotionally, but I have waves of fatigue throughout the day and generally I'm weak. I'm doing this fast to rest and heal my body and it just doesn't make sense for me to use my energy for anything that isn't essential.
When I've completed my fast, THEN I will worry about exercise. ;)

juice fasting will give you comparatively more energy to do sport than water fasting
however, i would say it is hard to push hard on your training like what you normally can do, everything is slow down

I never tried a master cleanse, but if you choose water fast, working out might not be a good idea - I tried to work out strongly on my third day(fast paced dance) and my heart was behaving very weird despite that I was in my early twenties then. Juice fasting is gentler on the body, but still, be ready to work out less, if you feel weaker.I think master cleanse is somewhere in the middle between water fast and juice fast.
