I had the tests for one firefighter school this past saturday, I knew what the exercises would be and what was needed to get 100%. I was ready to have over 95% on the physical tests (one exercise they required was new to me and in the 4 months or so I didn't reach what they wanted for 100% but did reach 90% for that one). So I got there saturday confident that I'd get over 95%, but I failed the cardio test! I was sure I would pass it, it was the beep test where you run back and forth over 20 meters faster and faster along with a recording of timed beeps that go faster and faster. You need to touch the 20 meter line on the beep or before and are only allowed to be late twice. We had to make it to level 9, on level 8 I was late twice and was eliminated, I couldn't beleive it, I was sure I'd pass it easily. On the treadmill I made it to level 13 which I thought would be enough to make it to level 9 in real, it's much harder in real because you completely stop and re accelerate every 20 meters.

I need to wait a year before I can take the tests again, but I also applied to another school which has it's tests in may and thay have the same beep test. Now that I know I need to improve my cardio/running I've been doing it often and as soon as the weather allows (been raining for days) I will do the test in real outside since it's much harder than I thought.

For now I do it on the treadmill, at least I got a new record there, I made it to level 14, here's a video, I cut some parts out to make it about a minute, it was 14 minutes total:

I think I'll be able to improve enough for the test in may.
