adding to food for the day
got home from work and had 1/2 an apple & 1/2 an orange (my husband had the other halves)

then for dinner I made a salad w/ carrot, jicama & apple

I was still a hungry later so I had a sunchoke, bok choy, some snap peas and a couple pieces of asparagus.

I finished everything by 6:15 and didn't have anything after that. Now it's almost time for bed and I'm so happy knowing I'll be able to sleep since I'm not overfull & bloated.

Yikes, I feel GAR-bage today. My endocrine system is shot. I so much want this lifestyle to help with these issues, but I know it's not an overnight thing in any case.

Ate bananas all morning. Going to have enchiladas now, as I'm hungry and really want something that I shouldn't have, so I need something yummy to get me through it.

Clinging on by my fingernails (what's left of them) today! Still here though.

I'M IN MY THIN JEANS AGAIN! LOL still have a muffin top, but I don't care! A week ago I couldn't get those bad boys over my thighs and now I can zip them! Yahoo!

By the end of the month, I will be able to actually leave the house in them.

That's my goal anyhow!

I love avocados with all my heart and they are literally the staple of my diet.

Hey ya'll!!! This is day 23 for me...I didn't even realize, I thought it was 21 days. I'm really proud of myself for staying 100% raw through some really traumatic situations. :D

I'm seeing improvements in my health, though, probably because of stress & my forgetting to drink water, it is in tiny increments each day.

I'm pretty excited about being raw permanently! Woohoo!!!

Best Wishes everyone!!!

1/2 cup rejuvelac
B-Chocolate mousse and mulberries
S-rawritos and guacamole
L-half a coconut with its water, raisens, 3 apples
S-4 oranges
D-15 baby carrots, 6 ants on a log, pizza snacks (by Go Raw)

Good morning everyone! Hopefully everyone is doing well.
Over the last couple of day...I found out some things while making some of the recipes.

1. Soak the nuts..when making pates. nuts last longer.. spices hold better...and you feel fuller.
2. When making cheese sauces...grind pine nuts in a coffee grinder....it gives the cheese sauce..that great cheesy flavor...and greasy feeling I have been looking for.
3. I do not like brown flax..but golden flax flour..tastes better and has a less slimy texture..when mixed together with veggies..nut..and spices..to make a cracker.
4. Alissa's book is the best one out there (should have listed that first. ) These are some of the most tasty and easy to prepare recipes.
5. Bring food with you where ever you go. Always have more then enough..
6.. Start with a big plate. and stop eating when full. I found when making burgers..if I prepare a burger the same style and size when on the SAD diet..I am still hungry..because of the less calories.
7. Stand up after eating one portion...I found that sometimes I don't feel full after eating...but once I stand for a monemet or two...I feel the food in my stomach (this happens often..it's a little strange)
8. When at work....use dark color bowls cups and dishes..it keeps people out of your business ...clear dishes..seem to cause more questions.
9. I found that family members accept the diet more..after they see and sample some of the dishes..describing it doesn't help
10. Take one day at a time...some days are not easy.

I just realized I forgot to post yesterday. The weekend was kind of a blur with my thyroid dropping and dropping, or whatever the heck it's doing. Going to the endocrinologist tomorrow, but I know I probably won't be feeling any better for 2-3 weeks, at least.

I'm just trucking on with this raw food thing. Don't know what else to do. Very frustrated that my health seems to nosedive no matter what I do. My weight has plateaued for the last few days also, but that's probably my metabolism grinding to a standstill because of my thyroid issues. Still down about 7 pounds though.

What makes it harder is that when my thyroid is low I don't have energy for anything, and food cravings seem to go along with that syndrome. I haven't caved in, but the temptation is pretty much ever present.

I had a terrible night last night and did not sleep well which makes me more weak to cravings. But I did resist and the only thing I did fall for was my new addiction, Righteously Raw Maca Bar. It's sooooooo god.
Here is what I'm eating today:
BF. Smoothie with banana, almond milk, maca powder, blueberries
L. LARGE salad with broccoli, sprouts, pepitas, onions, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes with kiwi dressing.
S. Maca bar
D. Zucchini noodles with tomato sauce, seaweed salad, swiss chard salad.
I'm off to a yoga class.

didn't have time to post this weekend so I'm recapping today
saturday morning I had a smoothie: spinach, cantalope & mint. One of my favs! cantalope was on sale, so I was really excited
lunch was at a family reunion - luckily there was a large salad with greens, peppers, cucumber, avocado & carrots. I stayed away from all the desserts! and had a huge bowl of strawberries instead
dinner was a sweet potato spiralized with onion, garlic, tomatoes & mushrooms.

sunday I had a juice for b-fast: radishes & the green tops, carrots & tops, cucumber, lemon, spinach, and apple.
lunch was zucchini & sunchokes
afternoon snack was a pear
dinner was kale salad w/ tomatoes & mushrooms

today I had fruit for b-fast: watermelon, blackberries, strawberries & pineapple
lunch was a spinach salad w/ fennel, tomato & red onion
in the afternoon I had an apple and an orange
dinner was leftovers from last night and then an apple

all finished before 6:30 which is my new cutoff time. I was going for 6, but found multiple days in a row that I needed to extend until 6:30 - so rather than fight it, I've just moved my time.

Thanks, Veggiefamily. I've never heard anything about spinach or pears being aggravating to the thyroid. Why is that? Are they considered goitrogens?

On that note though, fundamentally it's my immune system that's whacked, not my thyroid. Just that my immune system is attacking my thyroid and so that's how it manifests.

Thanks for the hint.

I wonder sometimes if it's too far gone to heal, but then again I don't know until I try.

Here you can read more about it: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_cruciferous_vegetables_a_bad_food_choice_for_s omeone_with_hypothyroidism
Your immune system is not working correctly because your thyroid is not working. I was born like this and it took years to get diagnosed. My thyroid is not working at all. What you want to do is get your immune system a boost. It's funny because the food you should avoid can be eating if cooked. There is no fun having thyroid problems and takes take to get balanced but until then give your self a break, eat well and rest a lot. Good luck!!!

Good morning to all! Last night I sat and thought long and hard about breakfast. When I was eating a SAD diet...my morning meals consisted of two things. Cold cereal and sandwiches with eggs and meats.. I wanted some cereal today...and I looked through the book and realized I didn't have any sprouts or grains to make a hearty bowl...so I decided to make my own cereal...last night I made pecan milk..and this morning I took two very ripe banannas..and some crushed pecans...poured warm milk over it...and sat down and thought..this really doesn't look good....but I was hungry so I ate...anyway by the last spoonful...I was enjoying it.. Tonight I am gonna try to figure out some way of making raisian bran.

For lunch I have some cheese stuffed salad leaves..with pecan mushroom burgers...and a pear.

I weighted again this morning I'm down a total of 14 lbs. since 4-1..so that made me happy!

Today:
1 liter lemon water @ rising.
GS w/banana, mango, romaine and spinich.

2 grapefruits.

A few nuts or seeds.

Either going to finish my nori rolls (if they are still good) or have another taco salad. I ended up making some cheese sauce and making a salad with the taco meat rather than rolling up in romaine leaves....man was it yummy!

Not so good yesterday...but that is ok. I was doing well being all raw during the extremely traumatic, stressful times, and the regular times, but apparently the inertia from the extremely traumatic stressful times was harder to resist.

Lesson learned.

I'm back on raw today, picking up and moving on.

Best Wishes everyone!

My weight has stalled. Right along the side of the weight-loss road, my little engine said forget it and stopped. I'm really looking into ways I can clean my system. I feel like I'm holding onto things I shouldn't be and would rather have them get on with their existence.

Today is avocado, bell pepper, raw bar, banana, almond butter, and trying lemon H2O.

Keep on keeping on!

Good morning all!
I'm going to have lemon water NOW...(it's really getting late) and then I'm going to have some carrot/veggie juice...

Lunch will be a GS with tomatoes, celery, spinach, carrot, spices....

I think for dinner I will have guacamole and salad, but I'm not sure if I want something that heavy. I have ripe avo's, and I'm not sure if I want to eat them right now. In the fridge they go.

Hope everyone has a great day.

My weightloss has also stalled, so I am trying to get more juice and blended foods, lower fats (even though I will still get SOME fats) and no nuts. I find that if I do this for a couple of days, my body cleanses easier (kinda like a fast)

Peace.

I can't wait to list my food at the end of the day in my Blog, so I may as well enter it here. This is my first day 100% raw in quite a while. No excuses - I just didn't do well when I finished up my Master Cleanse. The past few days I've been looking at the videos of some raw foodists and also have been reading Carlene Jones' Journal from her website. She is such an inspiration for me. Do read it if any of you get a chance. I am so determined to make raw food my only food from here on. Here is what I've had so far today. Not much, but I have a bad cold.

smoothie: 1 level T of cacao
bunch frozen bananas
2T hemp seeds
1 Stevia
water & ice
maca (2 caps)
Fo-Ti (2 caps)
Vanilla

juice: 5 carrots
2 celery
1/2 beet
1/2 lemon
bunch broccoli florets

another smoothie: parsley
2T unhulled brown sesame seeds
frozen mango
1/2 fresh pineapple
frozen grapes
1T coconut oil
water

snack: Ate a ton of raw nuts today. I find myself nibbling or drinking the smoothies - a lot. I guess it is because I am not having my usual junk - see? I didn't name it, did I?! Have a rawsome day everyone!

Sue.

b-fast was spinach w/ an orange & strawberries
lunch was a mixed green salad w/ carrot, cucumber, red pepper, mushroom & cherry tomatoes
afternoon snack will be raw cacao pudding w/ strawberries
not sure what dinner will be. my dad is in town so we'll most likely eat out. I'll have a salad if we go to a regular restaurant...but if I can convince him to go to the raw restaurant, then I will have the teriyaki kelp noodles.

Today is 30 days raw. Last night was my last night of class (Finish my cap-stone 6/2/09) for grad school and we had a party and you know there were all kinds of SAD temptations, so I packed food for me just in case. A few people brought fruits and veggies which were wonderful and I dipped the veggies in a cheese sauce I made and it was great. My partner kept offering my SAD cake and I told her my doctor says those foods are off limits due to my health issues. I had a really hard time with the smells of cookies but I didn't cave in. I also have had several days of emoitional detox too. Today is a new day and I am proud of myself for not giving in and completing 30 days and for me this is just the start towards healing my body. Today I will eat:
B- Green drink
S- Carrots w/ uncheese sauce
L- Green drink
S- Raw bar
D- Salad

Today:

Pecan carrot burgers w/curry sauce (got them dehydrating now)

Missed my "Best Raw Coffee Ever" today as I still had GS in the vitamix from yesterday! Went for a walk instead and am now finishing off yesterday's last GS to which I just added lots of frozen mango, big bunch frozen kale, flax seeds, hemp seeds, and sesame seeds and more frozen banana. This is very good and will keep me going for many hours as it made 2 very tall glasses.

Supper:
Juice: tomato, beet with its greens, 1/2 lemon, apple, celery

May have a salad later but I doubt it. Trying to finish eating earlier to see if it makes a difference.

Best wishes for a rawsome day to you all.

happy earth day!

I'm having a smoothie - one of my favs! spinach, cantaloupe & mint
I have a salad for lunch with kale, cherry tomatoes, zucchini and shallots.
For a snack I have some sprouts, sunchokes, cherry tomatoes, and snap peas.
Dinner will be out again tonight - will have some sort of salad.
going to a baseball game tonight - will take an orange with me to snack on in case I get hungry, since the stadium food is awful!

Dear Mother Earth,

I love you!

Love,

Morgan

Yahoo! Holy goodness I'm a tired monkey!

I'm really going to need to invest some serious time into learning how to make cheeses and other great things. My current diet is basically the same things over and over ever day. While I love it, I kinda want to mix it up a bit.

Don't worry, I'm making sure to get my vitamins and everything all the time!

I think because I'm at the gym everyday for 3 hours, I'm really not seeing any weight loss.

Personal accomplishment: I'm sleeping through the night EVERY night and I'm no longer having crazy night sweats! (LOL and you thought it was the jeans)

mstrish: Congrats on your 30 days and for making it through those tough times. I hope you start to see improvements in your health.

Morgan12422: 3 hours at the gym every day?? What are you doing? Some would say that's nuts, although it sounds fun to me. I wish I had time for that!

Went to the dr. yesterday and my thyroid is definitely low so he upped my dose. I would love to get off this medicine at some point, but for now it's really difficult to stay raw when I feel so awful. Seems counter-intuitive, I know, except that it seems to cause massive food cravings. I swear I could murder a pound of cheese -- but I haven't.

Made some crackers and nut cheese yesterday which sort of helps. Still doing simple raw kind of half the time. Planning to do a fancy raw cake for my son's 6th bday in a few weeks.

Today so far: 2 glasses of grapefruit juice, raw flax crackers and herb nut cheese.

Oh it is completely crazy. It's therapy to be honest. I leave work at 4:30-5:00 and go straight to the gym until about 8:00. Then I go home and try to make it into bed by 10:30 to do it all over again the next day.

That way, I don't have time think about my ex as much. Sigh. It's sad, but it's true and FAR better than drinking or anything self-destructive.

I'm also down 3.3% bodyfat. Hey, I'll take it! I've only lost like 3 pounds so far, but I'm sure that a slight increase in muscle mass is causing the weight loss 'stall'.

I've discovered this things called 'pure'. They are raw food bars that I got at Jewel. Completely raw, organic, vegan and so incredibley good! They are a bit pricey (like $3 a piece) but I got them on clearance for $1.50. I sorely need to find more of these.:D

Where did you GET that picture. Too funny. Hey, looks great to me since I've lost almost 8 pounds so far! Good for you.

Feeling better today. I was also up before my alarm clock. Yesterday was the first day in several weeks that I didn't feel like an absolute piece of garbage. I was functional all day, which is a big deal to me these days.

I had a banana smoothie with vanilla & some lecithin. Interesting. Also some cheese & crackers. I have a million recipes on the go, but the problem with using the dehydrator is it takes for-ever!

Looking forward to a decent day.

Well it's been a very long time since I tried to be raw or high raw. But today I start a new job and I need to be super healthy if I want to keep it so here I am.

This morning I am having a big green smoothie before I go off and do a couple hours of training at my new job.

I am not gonna beat myself up if I am not perfect I am just going to keep trying.

Breakfast: Smoothie; blueberries, raspberries, spinach, agave to sweeten, and a little E-3 Live

Lunch: will probably be a banana or two, I am a little low on groceries, so just something to hold me over till I get home and make another yummy smoothie.

Have a nice day everyone.

1 liter lemon water @ rising
GS w/banana, cherries, spinach and romaine.

2 grapefruits

a few nuts or seeds

Pecan carrot burger wrapped in romaine w/ tomato and uncheese sauce. With a side of orential brocoli.

Trying to learn to like brocoli raw...I have always liked it steamed a bit w/cheese ...but just never cared for it much raw. I did try Alissa's brocoli soup and it is good, but just wanted something besides soup. So did some searching on here yesterday and found some recipes. Chopped up the brocoli and made the marinade for the orential brocoli....took just a taste while ago and MAN...I can do this...:D Wanted to add that I took the left over stalk of brocoli and ran it thru the juicer...THINKING it would be bitter...I thought if it is bitter I'll add a carrot to sweeten it up a bit...but gave it a try plain and was I surprised...it was pretty sweet...I just drank it like it was...so now I know I can add brocoli to my meals...without having just soup!

Am very busy again today so I will simply list my food.

So far:

1 big GS with:

frozen grapes,
frozen pineapple,
frozen beet greens
frozen parsley
1/2 cuke
2T hemp seeds
stevia
water

YUM!

Late lunch today:
"Best Raw Coffee Ever" YUM again!

Supper:
likely lots of juice:
celery
tomato
broccoli

Snack - apple

Another snack - lots of mixed raw nuts (too many)

Didn't do so well at suppertime last night - so we won't go there. But I actually stopped myself before I was out of control, so that was good! And today, I am focusing on the GS - not the other junk that has been tempting me since yesterday. Feels good to be getting a bit stronger. That's what the greens and the fruit are doing for me - I'm certain of it.

Have a successful day everyone!:D

... Trying to learn to like brocoli raw...I

One of my very best friends in the whole world was a very strict natural hygenist for about 6 years and she never could eat broccoli raw -- said it always gave her gas. These days she has relaxed her food standards a bit and now says she loves steamed broccoli, that it agrees with her so much more. I'm not saying this to put you off raw, by the way, but I do question whether it's the best food to be eaten raw. Still, everyone's systems are different, so if you can find a way to enjoy it raw, go for it!

I'm off for a small trip this weekend and am stressing a little about how the heck I'm going to be sitting in restaurants constantly without indulging in cooked stuff. I have made some cheese and crackers though, and I'm bringing my Vitamix and lotsa bananas, so hopefully that will get me through. Not that I want to give myself license, but I'm going to hereby state that if I do go off, I'm getting right back on ASAP. I think I can easily do ONE meal at a restaurant, but for multiple days it gets a bit trickier. Wish me luck, and I'll post again on Sunday or Monday.

Good luck to everyone this weekend! Hugs!

I'll pay attention to gas, it never gave me gas when I steamed it for a bit...but I usually had it smoothered in cheese too....LOL but not always...I ate it by itself to. Seems like I did read somewhere that steaming it brought out more nutruients than eating it raw..who knows . I'm gonna give it a go and see what happens.

Have a good trip!:D

Okay, Yesterday was very intense with SAD cravings. My DH is not raw and it has been challenging. I wanted some of his SAD chilli but I did not sucumb. I am weaning off of coffee and feel this is attributing to my detox symtoms...my plan is to be off by the end of this coming week. I am planning on making the following for several days of menus: Key lime pie, uncheze pistachios, portabella caps stuffed, live fries, and sprouted peas for salads. I am holding steady at my weight of 165...want to be down another 15 lbs. before I go back and see my family in VA Beach in June. My DH has agreed to also quite the coffee and this will take a tramendous amount of stess off me too.

So I LOVE the idea of raw protein shakes. I love the idea of raw protein shakes.

Blech. Not the greatest. I should probably toss in a naner to make it better.

Headaches today. Totally unclear as to why. 3 weeks into this and now I'm getting headaches? I'm also coughing. Super attractive. I'm well aware.

Well have an AMAZING day!

Okay everyone I still have a HA from weaning off coffee...today no coffee but tea instead half a cup. Today I am not to hungry so I will be eating whatever I feel like having at the time...raw of course. I am planning on just eating 100% raw for next months challenge....no spices unless they are raw. I am doing an experiment on myself. I am down to 164 lbs, so thats a 15 lb loss in 37 days. I was reading some article on Paul Nisons site that was interesting for curing IBD which is something I am trying to heal and so far my systoms are disappearing. Have a great day all you raw foodies.;)

Hey Dave,

Hey eveyone today is the 30th day of the 30 day challenge!!:D

Hey Myca, you have done kinda like I did, I was mostly raw the last week or 2 of march but I decided to make 4-1 my official starting date.

The smooth and creamy avocado dressing is in Alissa's book, pg.478, did you say you had her book coming? Its a sweet dressing. I like to switch back and forth between sweet and savory but man I love this dressing.

Did I loose any weight? I only weighed 5 times, starting day, ending day (today) and 3 times during the month. I lost 21 lbs. in 30 days!! Unreal!! I have a LOT to loose though.

Let me know if you have Alissa's book coming!

Somethings I ate that are questionable to some:
Tamari (organic low sodium) had it with sushi. Is it really raw?
Raw nuts. I bought raw but are the really raw?
Honey. The creamy avo dressing has honey in it.
Raw Cacao. Had ice cream couple times. Is it raw?
The rest was no doubt fresh and raw 100%

Changes I've noticed:
Headaches gone. I used to eat ibuprofin like candy (800mg per day)
Light night sweats gone. I used to wake up in the middle of the night with a light sweat, I always blamed my mattress (tempurpedic they are a bit warmer) I don't wake up or sweat anymore.
Pitted edema gone. I have to sit at the computer for hours sometimes, I would notice swelling at the sock elastic line. I always blamed ith on having to sit and not moving my legs but now I believe its all the SALT in processed food!
Wake LOTS easier in the morning, feeling more rested and having more energy druing the day.

This is the eating lifestyle I've been looking for!

Today I had:
1 liter lemon water @ rising.
GS w/banana, mango (last one :() spinach and romaine.

2 grapefruits

A few nuts

Taco salad w/uncheese sauce.

Have a great day, see everyone nest month...hehehe

Still here and planning to be here for May also!

Have not managed 100% for the whole month but have have many 100% days and HIGH raw the rest of the time. I tried a bunch of new dishes this month that are "keepers" and am very motivated to keep going.

My house has been in chaos because we're painting and have a MAJOR landscaping/land clearing project going on at the same time! I've been TERRIBLE with posting regularly...

Yesterday:

green smoothie of apple, blueberry, banana, lots of spinach
cuke slices with avo, olives and black sesame seeds
zucchini noodles & fettuchini cream sauce and parm from sunny raw kitchen
giant baby romaine salad with tomato, cuke, olives, carrots
apple
2 carrots

Today:
apple
some walnuts
[must not discuss luch :( ]
collard wraps with mock salmon pate and salsa for dipping
avocado and cuke slices
watermelon

See everyone in May!

im running about 90 percent raw right now. but im trying like hell....i feel so much better and im loving the green smoothies. i cant make one without frozen blueberrys. those blueberrys just taste SO good! (and it takes away the green! :p )
and im loving this site! the vibe is great, the people are so nice. on a vegan board im on, if i said i was running 90% vegan i would get railed! (i am 100% vegan as far as i know!) but here its like do your best and feel your best. and i love that!

i'm in for may!

i haven't posted much, but i've been up and down with raw for the past 6 years or so. you'd think it would be easy for me by now, but the longest i've been able to stick to 100% is 40 days. a big part of that is probably because i've been either pregnant or nursing for almost that entire time. my daughter is turning two in a week, and i'm pretty sure i'll be nursing her for quite a while still. i nursed my son till he was about 3.5. it makes me so hungry! i have a really hard time with cravings, too. plus, i live in the middle of nowhere, with no other raw foodies that i know of, and a 35 min drive to get organic produce.

well, i'm off to a good start today. go may, go!
